Super cute little dance studio right next to Tierra Colombiana in North Philly! Just moved back to…read morethe Philadelphia area and wanted to get back into dancing shape. The owner, Franchesca, is helping me out with my dance needs. She's very professional and patient, and a lot of fun. You could easily miss the studio because it's on a second floor, above a hair salon, so look closely. They have dance classes for both children and adults, as well as yoga and some special-request workouts. Check it out, dancers!

Omi is such a great teacher and patient, and engaging, and very easy to learn from! I have been taking dance lessons in Tampa, Florida and on my visit to Philly, Didi got me the greatest gift, a lesson with Omi! The Estilo studio in Fishtown is amazing and everyone there is remarkably friendly and make you feel like part of the Estilo family! Thank you to all for making my Father's Day so memorable and special to me and my wife enjoyed being there too to film and watch me learn so well! I am 69 years old and love to dance and my lesson was incredible!!!

I took my very first pole dance class at this studio and it was enough to get me hooked on the…read moresport (yeah I said it!). The owner, Barb, is a former exotic dancer and the official House Mom at Club Onyx. Needless to say her pole skills are tried and true. The staff there is SUPER friendly and encouraging even to newbies who haven't the grace of a newborn baby cow. When you go here be prepared to work. The pole classes will more than likely have brand new people as well as advanced and Barb will encourage you to try everything at least once. I found myself doing things that I would've never imagined in my first class (like inversions!). Learned the walk, a couple of spins, and then tried (in vain) to climb the pole. I found in my first class that my arms and core were much to weak for many of the maneuvers but it was a great workout nonetheless. The only drawbacks I can say is that with this style of teaching you'll either feel really inspired by your lack of skill and get a great desire to learn or you'll end up really discouraged that you're not at the level of others and forgo the sport altogether. The methods of teaching here are very "watch me, now you try" which isn't effective for everyone. In addition to pole instruction classes they offer Abs class, Booty Blast (learn to make it clap), and various other sexy fitness courses. After my first class my body hurt like never before. Being a former competitive swimmer, and short distance runner, this pain was still new to me. I literally couldn't lift my hands directly above my head for 2 weeks. It's an awesome workout and a lot of fun.

The entrance is street level with a coat room, bathrooms, and a sitting room. The staircase going upstairs is beautiful. There is also an elevator. The event spaces are similar to a parlor. A single, small elevator--furnished with a small love-seat bench, which seemed slightly unnecessary and space-stealing for the limited number of floors housed in The Acorn Club--brought us to the second floor and its dining room. The Acorn Club's dining room is absolutely beautiful: especially the blue, damask wallpaper and the glittering chandeliers and wall sconces. The table seats and cloth napkins (both shades of dusky rose) were luxurious to the touch and the table settings were impeccable. Food-wise, the appetizer and dessert stole the show. The butternut squash soup was piping hot, creamy, and delicious--very similar to the version my mother makes for holidays. And the chocolate-and-vanilla mousse garnished with milk and white chocolate shavings was perfect (as was the almond lace cookie I may have also sampled). Meanwhile, the main course of (dry) chicken and (overdressed) salad was only so-so. Service-wise, the servers was a little surlier than you might expect in that setting, but for one of my fellow diners a polite and slightly apologetic response for putting her water glass too far to the center of the table seemed to break the ice enough to allow the server to seem less resentful. We left wondering how one becomes a member of this Club. Unfortunately the website still leaves us wondering.

We weren't very fit when we began the classes, but it wasn't a problem. Mr. Shebar and Jose are both excellent instructors who are patient and make sure that the students know the correct form for punches, kicks, and combos. The class isn't just for beginners, as the workouts are very difficult regardless of fitness level and most exercises can be made more difficult with variations.
