They are gaslighting me trying to make it seem like this was my fault, when they clearly went back on their word. No integrity whatsoever, and a slap in the face to working parents trying to do the best for their kids. I emailed this gym to request a payment extension because I am a single parent with limited income. They informed me that the sign up form outlines when payment is due, which I had accepted and therefore I planned to just find a way to pay because I want my daughter to remain in the class. I'm not a cheapskate nor trying to get out of paying for anything, I just had misread the form and thought I'd try to see if they were willing to work with me. The email said I have by the end of the day the following day to pay. Then, the following day at 9:30 am, I get an email saying that they already suspended my account. So much for giving me til the end of the day to make the payment happen. I find that to be so rude and disheartening, but I guess that's what happens when a company cares more about making money than it's community. Lesson learned.

Thanks to a great friend who took me to my first class at her studio, I have been taking dance lessons from her for months now and have seen nothing but positivity radiate from that woman. In fact, she is nothing but welcoming, kind, encouraging and sweet. She is so personal and although there are multiple people in class, she manages to individualize the lesson by constant rotation of partners and oversight of all our moves. In each of her classes there are people from various backgrounds and she treats everybody with respect and kindness. She even recently did a surprise graduation dance lesson party with students from Thomas Jefferson who are of various backgrounds and ethnicities. They all expressed nothing but genuine fun and loving words about Eka. In my own personal opinion, she brings out my inner confidence. She is supportive and always helps me and helps correct me when I am doing a wrong step or can't get a move. Her beginner classes are so much fun. You start class with basic moves and add on, by the end of the class you know a tiny chunk of a dance routine. I've tried the bachata and salsa classes, both have been tons of fun. She also plays great music. Such a talented teacher, a great dancer, and a great motivator!

We started with a box step and then the second class, she went into choreographing our dance and teaching us the beginning parts of it. She was so patient and gave really helpful directions. We also made some adjustments to the dance midway through based on personal preference, and it was not a problem for her. We took 6 classes (in addition to the first free one), but we felt pretty confident after class 5 thanks to her and just added a 6 for one last practice and to figure out our transition from the entrance to the first dance. She really made it approachable and always asked if she could touch you to demonstrate a move, which is a small but important piece of making her students feel super comfortable. Some children (including her own) are very blatantly favored and other children are never given the chance to shine. The routines are the same year after year. Also, I was shocked to hear her being "catty" and talking about the children that she teaches and of families and their financial situation. She and her mother have displayed this lack of professionalism on more occasions than I can recount. It was very uncomfortable to be around to hear this. The studio is small and not very clean. The classes are too big and many times are not on the level that they should be for the skills of the children. I was very disappointed and with all of the good dance studios in the area, it is best to shop around.
