Claiming that he tried to run the card is complete nonsense. We have only one card, with very high limits on our card and don't carry a monthly balance, so there wouldn't ever be a decline. My husband never called him with another card number -- that is also a lie. I am filing a BBB claim now to help protect consumers from this type of bad business practice.
