My daughter's volleyball team played in a tournament at Sporting Chance yesterday. The facility was run very professionally. I saw staff members changing garbage liners, maintaining the bathrooms, and patrolling the camps and parking lot. The staff was friendly and helpful. Sporting Chance's setup for volleyball tournaments is optimal. There is ample space between courts. There is plenty of seating for spectators. They had benches along the walls and mini-bleachers along the baseline. They had the best scoreboards. They were well placed. You can see the score from anywhere you sit. They also have a pretty good snack bar. My daughter's team plays out of the East Valley, but I would 100% be up to driving to Tucson for every tournament if they were held at Sporting Chance.

Ask the Community - Sporting Chance Center

How is the parking in the area? If there is a volleyball tournament?

You won't have any problems parking. They have a private lot. All camps are directly in front of the entrance. The facility is top notch.

The child care employees do a wonderful job and are one of the main reasons our family enjoys coming here. However, I do think the YMCA should reconsider advertising the pool as a membership amenity when, in practice, it is rarely available for general use. During the week, only a couple of morning hours are open, and those times are primarily intended for children taking swimming lessons. Everyone else--including children--is limited to a very small portion of a single lane. The pool is also unavailable on Sundays, has limited hours on Saturdays, and on Fridays it is often occupied by camps, making it inaccessible to regular members. While I understand the need to accommodate lessons and programs, the reality is that members have very few opportunities to actually use the pool. It feels misleading to market it as a membership benefit when it is so difficult to access. I hope the YMCA will either expand public pool availability or be more transparent about the limited access so members know what to expect.

Trust me, I'd love to relax in the shade catching up on Facebook drama or chatting up my friends but as a parent of a special needs child, I HAVE to shadow two steps behind my son or he'll run off and join a pack of javalinas. Anamax Park is the only park that I've found in the greater Tucson area that was designed specifically for such children and their families. The covered playground has a fence around the perimeter, with only one gate in and out. We visited this park on the Sunday during Memorial Day weekend, and oddly enough it was totally deserted. We were the only family at this 22 acre park. In addition to the little fenced in playground that we visited, there's also a sensory park, but that requires keys to get in which wasn't happening on a Sunday. My review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the bathrooms. Actually, that was kind of a problem...I'm pretty sure the restrooms are in the recreation center building, which was locked up. I'll spare you the grisly details on how that problem was resolved. I did mention that the park was totally deserted, didn't I?

The pathways are mostly level with some slight hills but they are not a hike. But the big problem is the pickleball courts. They have four courts on a tennis court. Tennis players DO get to play if they show up and the nets are rolled off to the side. The main issue, though, is there is a group of people who play who think they own the courts and make the rules. One guy threatened us with bodily harm - twice - if we didn't do what they said. (It was over using the paddle rack and we just wanted to play with our group and they said we HAD to play with everyone.) I It was an unpleasant experience for such a nice park.

If you stay in the park proper, there's not as much risk for kids wandering around..... The restrooms were clean, and there were some  nice picnic areas.
