I love Sports Systems. I've been a customer here for at least 6 years. I mainly used the bike shop for my maintenance needs. But, the store is full of an impressive stock of inventory for your sporting needs. Today, I stopped by the shop to get a water bottle cage. I had a remaining balance on a gift card to use. I found the cage. I also looked at a pair of biking glasses as I am in the market for some. The glasses where right next to the register with a few employees. I asked if I could take the transition lenses outside to try them. The took off the security device so I could do so. I opted not to get the glasses today, but I might get them in the near future. There was some trouble getting my gift card balance applied, but that was resolved and my purchased was complete. I read several Yelp reviews from customers complaining about the employees ignoring customers. I have to address this. Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel the need to be acknowledged when I'm in a store. If I need someone, I will flag them down. They have always been kind, courteous, and respectful to me over the course of my patronage, bike shop and store. read more

This is probably the worst bike shop I have ever been to. The staff is all angry when you walk in the door. The short, bald fella they keep in the back feels the need to outwit you non-stop because he is insecure about other aspects of his life. Bike build is overpriced; REI does it for 100. Rear wheel estimated at 400, while I have previously gotten wheels for 200 multiple times. Was also told on the phone they accept components for store credit when they do not. Should have known when they sell arbor for their snow gear haha. read more

Went to the shop to pick up my telephone purchased bike. The salesperson who helped me over the phone was off that day and had told me to speak to Rico if she was off over the phone. So upon my arrival I asked for Rico and he came with a unwelcoming approach he handed me off to another salesperson unbeknownst to me after I told him I was picking up my bike. He flatly turned around without a word and another uninterested person who didn't address he would help me instead. But just stood there. I finally asked where Nico went to my husband and this guy said I was ready to go. I was surprised and I said oh your helping me now? I asked if everything was there and he pointed to a box. I was surprised he had no interest in showing me how to operate the bike or set it up for me. I asked for him if he would adjust the bike for me since he clearly was doing the absolute minimum. The lack of service was obvious since the first interaction with the staff. No they didn't sale me the bike, Melissa did over the phone but apparently there is no interest in providing customer service unless the person made the sale was present. I was surprised to see 3 staff members outside providing service to a couple with optimum care and service making necessary adjustments to her bike but that same care wasn't provided to me. I would have bought other accessories and clothing during my visit but the shunning left me with a bad taste. Which I had never experienced before at a bike shop. read more

My experience with this shop has been mixed. I am a skier. They mounted several pairs of my skis without any issue, They did a good job on a fifth metatarsal punch on my boots at an extremely reasonable price ($30 for both boots). They built me some great footbeds. Their ski shop seems to do a fine job with tuning. They have the best ski boots selection in Albuquerque, but that's not saying much. Yet they sold me a pair of ski boots that was a size too large for me, probably the wrong volume (although that's subjective). I get the idea that they sell ski boots more based on what they have than what would be suitable for their customers. Their selection of ski boots is limited, and they didn't have anything in my wife's size. Their ski shop is also currently booked 14 days out, making it difficult to use. For a new boot purchase, I would recommend looking north, perhaps to Bluebird Mountain Sports, or if you are crazy like me, to one of the dedicated Colorado bootfitters. read more

Worst customer service. I wanted to buy a bike for my daughter. I found one on my own. I had some questions and no one would help us. Three female employees continued to have a personal conversation and ignored me. I took the bike to the service counter and the guy there pretended I didn't exist and continued a phone conversation without even saying I'll be with you in a second or a hand gesture or anything. Another employee walks by twice and won't make eye contact or acknowledge there was a customer in the store. I took the bike back to the sales area and the three women continued their conversation. I stood there looking at them, then one makes eye contact then looks away and continues the gossip conversation. At that point I went up stairs and there was no one interested in selling me anything. We left and I have never been so frustrated with a retail store in my life. Unfortunately you can't post a review leaving no stars. read more

I purchased two bikes from Sports Systems Inc. in Albuquerque two weeks ago. When making the purchase, the salesman, Michael, clearly stated that we had 30 days to try them out. However, 13 days later, when I attempted to return one, a different attendant informed me that used bikes are not eligible for returns--something that was never communicated at the time of purchase. Feeling stuck, I opted to take a 50% store credit toward a different bike rather than lose out completely. While I appreciate being offered some compensation, the lack of transparency about their policy was frustrating. If the return policy changed, that should have been made clear upfront. Buyer beware--make sure you get all policies in writing before making a purchase. I cannot recommend this store based on my experience. read more

Unbelievable selection and quality of products. Not just for Albuquerque - for anywhere. Boot fitting for ski boots is a top-notch experience. They also will do the custom molded liners and shell adjustments and custom orthotics. The prices are competitive or better than online merchants - and I'd rather shop in person locally for these types of products anyhow. Highly recommend. read more

This shop is HUGE, tons of bikes and other sporting equipment. Back when I lived in Albuq, you prob wouldn't have been able to keep me out of this place. We live out of town these days, but came into town to peruse electric bikes. I am not saying that I want a salesperson following me around and hovering over me, but we were virtually... no, not virtually, but literally ignored the entire time we were in this store. I mean, we had thousands of green bills burning holes in our pockets, ready to pay cash for a couple of e-bikes. But no... one guy came by us, sat down, and perused his phone. When we inquired as to testing out a bike, he paged someone a couple of times, and no one ever came. I mean, we could have walked out with a bike and no one would have noticed. But instead of walking out WITH a bike, we just walked out. We'll take our business elsewhere. I gave them two starts because the physical shop itself, and inventory, well, was impressive. read more

I ordered a Jones snowboard for nearly $650 and never received it. The barcode on the shipping label became smudged in transit and it was lost in a USPS facility in Maryland; the snowboard was destined for Buffalo, New York. USPS has been unable to resolve the matter after it being lost for nearly a month. The seller received payment IN FULL and has made ZERO effort to help. At the very least, they could offer to split the difference. They are a business and account for issues like this happening from time to time. Although they have communicated with me they are unwilling to do anything and ended communications by saying "Good Luck". I cannot fathom treating a customer this way. Pass this ever time we drive up Montgomery decided to make a trip here. Huge place covering 2 floors - bikes etc on the lower level while everything else is on the upper. A little bit of something for everyone. I'm not a winter sports guy, but I haven't seen a selection this large since I left the PNW. Skis, snowboard, clothing, helmets etc fully stocked. Repair shop in one of the corners. Plenty of running gear too. Shoes, shorts, shirts. socks, hydration packs, & night running accessories I like Hoka shoes and found plenty. There were even some in my size on the clearance table. But this place carries a wide variety of shoes from most major companies. It's the best selection I've seen since moving here. Bikes & supplies hide out downstairs. Good selection at most price points. Both pedal & e-bikes are represented. There was one at $6500. Yeah, I don't ride that much. Bike service is on the same level and they're back up. Season change over time. I was impressed. Team sports aren't represented but that's ok, there are plenty of those places in town already. I was hired as ski patrol this last year and found that my demands for my skis had changed. Instead of picking my favorite run of the day given the conditions, my job required me to be able to go into any and every part of the mountain irregardless of the conditions(ice, rocks, slush, double black diamonds ,etc.) possibly with a toboggan in tow. I asked the first salesperson for help. Kayleigh walked me over to four skis she thought were perfect for me, but then said the Blizzard Rustler 10 might be the perfect fit. I just assumed she was too young to know all the forty or so skis available to know which was the ski that hit all the criteria I gave her, so I went home and did an internet and youtube research. This is an amazing place! They helped me find connectors for my trekking poles..I had called all over town and remembered that one of my friends does a lot of business with them. They had the connectors! Their customer service is top notch! The store is huge, 2 floors. Upstairs is every kind of sports equipment you could imagine. Not welcoming. I went in there (first time there) and no one greeted me. I found someone to direct me to where the binding service was for skis. The people there were matter of fact, not friendly, not unfriendly. They said the bindings would be done on "X date," which came and went with no notification. I finally called and the person said, "if they said they'll be ready on X date, then they will..." I was asking why there was no call. Additionally, while I was waiting for bindings, I wandered around the store looking at skis, etc. Several salespeople couldn't be bothered to ask if I needed help, and one girl hadn't moved from her seat at the front the whole 30 minutes I was in store. The mounting, wax and tune up were a decent value though. Edit: I added another star as the next time I went here, the guys were pretty helpful. read more

Not welcoming at all. I came here after work looking for some new gear for my skis, and after waiting for 15 minutes (which wasn't the problem) I had a guy with long hair come and ask me what I'm looking for only to not listen to me and get angry that I had questions about gear I had seen online. I was told that if I wasn't going to buy gear there, then none of my questions would be answered, only for him to try and upsell me on bindings. I left feeling like they didn't care about me, just my money. They have forever lost my business and I would recommend anyone else go somewhere like REI. All Sports Systems cares about is the upsell, not the customer. read more

Found this place driving by today and thought I'd stop in since I'm in the market for a new bike. The reviews look good, but mine is different. Walked in and I was immediately greeted by the gentleman at the front. I walked downstairs where there were a ton of bikes. Circled a few racks before stopping at the specialized stump jumpers. Noted the 3 different models and saw there was no information on any of them other than pricing. Stood there for no less than 10 minutes with ZERO help. Everyone saw me, because I saw them notice me, eye to eye. Decided I may not be the cash cow they were looking for? Anywho, I guess they didn't need me as a customer. Walking out, the same gentleman was there and asked if I needed help with anything. I explained my frustrations and displeasure and left. I guess there is some bike fest this weekend so maybe they're more worried about sales that might happen rather than one that was literally in their store? When it comes to bike maintenance, I've usually been one to go local. But since I bought a house minutes away from this spot, it's just kinda hard to beat. I was having major problems with my back tire... I took it to these guys and I just have to say that they were super friendly and knowledgeable about bikes! Another plus to this store is the amount of stock they have on hand. While tire shopping, I had many many options to choose from! Clown World Dropped of a wheel for my bike to get the rim replaced. They told me it would initially get done within 2 weeks. Came back and they told me to give them another week. I came back again and they hadn't even touched my wheel. Plus, they kept saying they would call me but never did. I got frustrated and just took my wheel back to find someone else who could fix it. I've spent a lot of money at Sport Systems tuning my bikes and skis. I never feel great about it, but there's not a lot of options in town so I keep going back. They have terrible customer service. You're going to wait at the ski or bike counter probably 15 minutes before someone helps you, even if you ring the bell. Sometimes you get someone helpful and sometimes they're jerks. Their rates suggest a high level of service and it's not always the case. I picked up skis today after spending $80 on a tune and they missed a lot of scratches. One was so bad I had them fix it before I took them home. Usually they can get skis done pretty quick, but expect months for bikes. After spending a few thousand dollars there in the past few years on tuning, they still do a mediocre job. If you can take your stuff to Taos or elsewhere, do it. read more

I went in a couple years back and picked out some snowboard boots. The boot fitter was super helpful and knowledgeable. The boots I bought worked well, but sadly had a defect and broke recently. Sport systems was incredibly helpful and responsive throughout the warranty process (even though I had moved out of state and could not visit in person). I hardly expected I would EVER be able to ski Santa Fe non stop top to bottom again - after two hip replacements, the last being less than a year behind me. Dick Taylor matched my former abilities to the my new Elan Ripsticks. All I can say is Thanks! and Wow! They cut through crud. They hold on hard pack and they turn so much easier than my last skis. I went in to purchase skis and boots after not having skied in over 20 years, and was impressed by McGregor's knowledge and willingness to help me get back on the slopes. He made sure the fit was correct, and did so while also juggling other customers and their needs. He did so with respect and transparency, as he'd done with me while I waited for him to finish with the customers who came before me. I really appreciate the detail and time he spent with me. First and last time coming here. Walked in wanting to take a look at a hardy mountain bike in the $700 range. Walked downstairs where I saw plenty of employees walking around and just doing their job. 2 other people walked down (white people) and were immidietly asked if they needed help or if they needed anything at all. Me being a brown person was not asked once if I needed helped. I walked for about 10 minutes looking at every single bike in the downstairs area but not one employee asked if I was ok or needed anything. I ended up leaving even though I saw a hando ful of mountain bikes I liked. Will never come back to this racist place again. read more
