Came in looking for a different bicycle pump because I had an issue getting mine to fit onto a valve, the guy who helped me was super awesome and suggested I just needed an extender piece that screws onto the valve. Was totally willing to buy it but he gave it to me for free. Clearly they are super nice here and I will definitely be coming back for my bike needs. I'm not a write a review type of person; first one actually because I let a lot of things go and just turn the other cheek, but this entire experience was extremely frustrating to say the least. First phone call after I dropped my bike off the employee who put me on hold, but didn't mute himself so for about 45 seconds I got to hear a few of the employees making fun of my name, which is Truman. There was group laughter about how I was related to the president and maybe I was harry too, physically harry. After they told me my bike was ready, wheels trued, de-railer fixed, tire inserts installed, brake bleeds fixed, and brakes and rotors, all taken care of. I took it home, rode it to work within the next 2 hours. Within the first 30 seconds I noticed by wheels still wobbled, and it still didn't shift correctly. I took it back the next day when they opened and the mechanic who worked on it told me he spaced about the wheels, he simply forgot. Sure, why not, he owned it, I said no worries; we are good. Still didn't shift correctly though. I came back later the same day to the same mechanic who again, told me it was fixed and good to go. I test road it around the shop this time, still didn't shift correctly; same original problem when I first brought it in. They worked on it again while I was in the back of the shop watching them, they had it fixed and working great in about 20 mins. Overall, the experience sucked, being told multiple times the bike was fixed when it wasn't, the main original problem was still there, but he told me twice it was fixed. Getting made fun of behind your back, and having to go back to the shop multiple times to tell them it still doesn't work right, when they said its good. just makes you think they didn't really look at anything. Its a long review, I get it, most people wont read it, but that was my experience. I doubt this will make any real impact. At the end of the day I could have said something, but I dont know everyone there and I dont know their roles in the whole process so this is for everyone there and who reads it. Just know I'm not coming back. read more

I took my road bike in for a tune up December 2022. Four months later, it still does not shift well on the rear cassette of front chain ring. Furthermore, they claimed to have put on a new chain ring but after I paid for it, I realized that they had never replaced the old chain ring. It was the original chain ring and not a new one. Beware! Make sure you check every item they service or replace to make sure it has actually been done. read more

I came here to replace a flat on my tire and they helped me with selecting the right tubes for my needs and also installed them as well. Another time I had a flat right before balloon fiesta and wanted to ride my bike to the fiesta. Called the store last minute and they stayed open a little later to help me out. They also have great custom bike selection. A+ for customer service. I will recommend this place to all my friends for tune ups and if they are in the market for a new custom bike. read more

The guy who helped us was very patient and demoed 3-4 bikes for my husband until he figured out which one he was most comfortable with. He also helped steer us towards which accessories would be helpful for us and which ones would be a waste for us at our experience level. I appreciated his expertise and his candid guidance. I was in town for work and had a free day so decided to go mountain biking. A friend of a friend recommended their shop off Paseo and glad he did. Reserving the bike in their online system was super easy. When I arrived they had all my details, we did a quick fit, and they provided me instructions on trails to ride close by. The bike I was given appeared to be brand new and worked perfectly for the terrain. The return was easy. The shop was very clean and well stocked. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Went to one location and was greeted by a rude employee who told us we should have reserved the bikes online . We explained that we wanted to rent bikes and didn't really plan it . After about 20 minutes he came back to tell us we would have to go to the other store and see if they could make arrangements. We drove to the other store and were greeted by a guy who was polite and professional he made arrangements to get us bikes for the day . This process took us almost 2 hours and they were kind enough to get us a bike carrier. This is the only reason for the 2 stars otherwise it would of been 1. Maybe 10 mins into our ride the chain broke . After returning right after they weren't willing to refund any of our bills . Our day was ruined. If it wasn't for the customer service of one guy it would be a complete joke read more

Went in one morning on a Friday and no one acknowledged me although I was waiting right by the service desk and there were 3 employees standing there. I stood there for about 5 minutes and I was looking around at people just standing around and of course I thought they were all customers, but come to find out one of the gentlemen standing there was one of the owners; still no acknowledgement of my presence. I finally walked out in disgust as all I needed was a new tube. I called to get ahold of a manager and got ahold of the other owner who told me that, "yeah the other owner saw you leave angry. I asked why he didn't say anything to me, and he couldn't answer that question. In short the customer service was horrible, so horrible in fact that here's my phone contact info, but I bet a bicycle tube no one cares because few businesses care about customers anymore. I bought my old Norava Metro bike at REI in April 2007. It was only a $400 bike at that time, but still a pretty good machine for a geriatric like me! The folks at High Desert "fitted" me to it years ago and it's been good to me. Last week I brought the old-timer in to High Desert. These wonderful people didn't look down their nose at my antique! No they took it, replaced the worn-out chain, the worn-out back gear cluster, the cables the brakes and put on new Gorilla tires and Gorilla tubes and filled them with Gorilla Gunk, and a half-dozen other tune up tasks. AND! They overhauled the whole darn thing and had it back to me in less than a week during peak "getting warmer and I want to go cycling" weather!! I went for a buzz this AM and my old friend ran like a top! Just like the day I rolled it out of REI. I can do some of my own routine maintenance, but once in a while, it's just a good idea to let the experts have their hand at it. And, hey, sure ... it wasn't cheap, but you really do get what you pay for. And after twelve years of use? I ride 30-50 miles a week now and I'm in my 70's, so my bike is very important to my conditioning program. Thanks Guys!! I'm the President of your Fan Club! read more

Took my Surly LHT in for service during a coast-to-coast tour. Owner was rude and raised his voice in anger when I asked where the bike mechanic was that was supposed to work on my bike. Instead they put their shop rookie on it who promptly lost the key to my locking skewer. I think you must have to belong to some sort of inner circle with these guys to be treated courteously and get top drawer service. Would never go back or recommend them to anyone. I found the owner to be just another self-impressed bike snob. read more

This place was rude and profiled us before we could even make it past the front door. We watched white families walk in and out receiving proper service. They keep us at the door saying their bikes start at $500 and they did not have any inventory for us. We explained the price point was fine, they continued to discourage us from buying saying they were out if inventory and that we did not to shop there. Racist pricks did not deserve my business. We purchased $2000 worth of bikes at Fat Tire. Much better experience and professionalism there. read more

I received excellent service and quick turn around. The quality of the work was exceptional ! I'm sure as with any other business they may occasionally disappoint, no business is all things to all people, but my experience was excellent. I dropped by High Desert Cycles on Louisiana today (while on a short training ride). I needed a new saddle for my road bike. The salesperson, Fred, showed me to the "assometer" (not the trade name, of course) to measure the width of my bone structure on the saddle. Based on this info, he showed me a range of wider saddles to meet my needs. And I thought I needed a narrower one! I bought the Specialized Toupe' which Fred installed immediately. He also installed some new Shimano cleats on my shoes (which also needed to be replaced). I have never received such great service at a local bike shop (with the exception of RioMountainSport which closed) and was in and out of there in no time, so to speak - not to mention I had a much more pleasant ride home. If you want friendly and professional service, I would strongly recommend you visit High Desert (with locations in ABQ and Rio Rancho, NM)! read more

I had an excellent experience here. Brought in my bike for a derailleur adjustment, which was done to perfection, and jeff, the mechanic, found that my cable was frayed! He completed it in no time, and I rode back home and the bike shifted better than ever! Also talked to john who may have been the manager. They took the time to allow me to test ride a couple bikes and teach me how to change gears (I have never ridden a road bike before). Was on my way from Texas to California to ride the #1 ranked mountain bike trails per Singletrack in each state when one of my bikes fell off the bike rack and got tore up. This review applies to both locations. We were looking for a bike for our ten year old daughter - and even in normal times it's hard to find a bike that is the right size for a child making a transition from kids bikes to adult bikes. With the pandemic and the shortage of inventory, it's been very hard. Nevertheless, the staff at both locations spent a lot of time with us showing us what they had and what they could reasonably try to order. While we started at the Coors Avenue location, they told us that the Louisiana location had a frame her size. At the Louisiana location they showed my daughter their inventory on computer and took the frame they had in her size out of the box to let her see it. They were super patient with our daughter and we ended up buying her the bike she wanted. Our daughter is amazingly happy about her new bike - and we were very happy with the service we received during this period of time when the pandemic is interrupting seemingly everything. read more

Stopped in to High Desert Bicycles to check out mountain bikes for my kids and have a used bike tuned. The man who helped us was friendly and helpful with fitting my kids for the size of bike they needed and recommended a bike that was large enough for them to grow into. I did not feel pressured to purchase anything immediately. We left the bike we had to be tuned and it was ready the following day with a phone call to let me know I could pick it up.
