Al capone's beef soup
Tiffany J.

We were recommended this place while visiting New Orleans by a Chicago native we met. I am surprised that I lived in the neighborhood for so long and never stopped in! The interior is very small and crowded but that just means you know the food is good. We got the weekend special (Art Parmfunkel), hot-n-ready boudin links, the SMOKIN sandwich and some frozen soups to go. The Art Parmfunkel was delicious and packed with flavor, I would definitely get again if this was an addition to their full time menu. The smokin sandwich was also packed with flavor and it was nice to try boudin links in Chicago as we did not get to experience them in Louisiana. Very happy to have found this restaurant and we can't wait to try our frozen Al Capone soup and gumbo.

The pep rally

Super adorable and cute inside, great vibes. The black coffee was good, the lattes were kinda meh and expensive. I got the pep rally sandwich and is was lacking flavor. It was spicy but that was all I was getting from it. Save yourself some money and get a bagel or wrap those looked really good! My boyfriend got the bacon egg and cheese bagel and he said it was alright, kinda dry but good bacon. That being said I would go back! It was super cozy inside. And the staff were super nice!

Sprinkle donut. Egg and cream cheese sandwich on everything bagel. NOLA coffee
Blake L.

So the food is objectively tasty, especially the donut. The service can't be topped; they make you feel very at home. The ambiance is great and cozy, so that's a plus. However, the prices are why she gets 4/5 stars. I mean, $30 for a bagel sammy, NOLA coffee, and a donut is actually insane. The bagel sandwich was also nothing to write home about.

Chai latte

The atmosphere was super cute and cozy inside. The service was very fast and baristas were super friendly! I think it is overpriced for what you get: I got the bernie sub hummus instead of mustard with mayo on the side and they put mustard and mayo on it with no hummus: didn't realize till I had already left with my sandwich :/ My chai was very pretty but way too milky and lacked flavor. My sister got the pep rally and ours basically tasted the same: they need avocado or something on it to make it more substantial. For 4 people who got coffees and a sammy/or yogurt our bill was $85 which seemed expensive for a cafe. I would go back again but you are paying sit down delicious restaurant prices for more casual place with meh food.

Arcadian Belly Sandwich

Always good breakfast and lunch at this Ravenswood spot under the L. I am always up for their specials but my favorite is the breakfast sandwich made with boudin. They have house made pickled veggies that are great as well. Super customer service in this small restaurant.

Very very nice workers and cute ambiance inside - just not much seating. Street parking only but lots of meters around. Solid sandwiches but not very big for how much they are. Will say the servers truly go above and beyond.

Does Spoken have gluten free bagels? I used to come here, but haven't since going gluten free. I'm not sure if I can start returning and at least get good cream cheese!

No I'm pretty sure they don't.

It's surprisingly hard to find one that's consistently good, but Crab King is by far my favorite. What sets them apart is the sauce and seasoning. It's flavorful without being overly salty, and the medium spice level is just right. I've been to Lowcountry plenty of times, and I personally find their boils way too salty. I honestly don't understand the hype when compared to Crab King. As of now, this is the best seafood boil I've had in Chicago. Of course, if a new spot opens, I'll happily give it a try, but Crab King is currently my #1. Their happy hour is also hard to beat. The seafood boil deals are great, and the $1 oysters are an added bonus. If you're a seafood boil lover, I definitely recommend giving this place a try!

But I absolutely do love their fried green tomato po' boy, it is such a creative option for people who don't eat meat. The downside is I typically have to take it to go so that I can add my own vegan sauce to it, otherwise it's not a vegan sandwich option. if I have anything bad to say about this joint, it won't be about the Po boys which is what the restaurant is named after. Even when I ate meat. The shrimp poboy was great. One thing I do have to say is a bit suspect is them using AI digital ads, I don't know what that's about, when their food looks good using real pictures. It just makes me a bit suspicious, like what do y'all have going on that y'all have to use AI? And the food looks so unappetizing on the AI poster... It looks weird, I don't too much trust businesses that use AI marketing. It's such a small thing to cut corners with, and I really don't like the patronize food establishments that are in the habit of cutting corners, because what else are they cutting corners on?

I will say the customer service was a little different compared to the experience which was a bit disappointing. When you walk in all people in your party has to be with you - even though you go up to the register to order on your own. My coworkers were finding parking and we stood there until everyone came in, but we were all paying separately. No big deal but something like this can change an experience. Once we got our meals we were very excited and quiet as we all munched. The corn bread is just as good as i remembered. The beignets were also AMAZING! The crab legs lacked meat and were a bit hard to get into. The shrimp was tasty. The sauce/butter lacked something which was said by everyone (7 of us).

Service fee at bar is $16 dollars and some change. Quality of seafood was subpar at best, the snow crab was overcooked and the "Everythang" sauce was nasty, in general the sauce was too thick for my liking. No Dungeness crab only snow crab. No black mussels only green mussels. Bill was high for nothing, overly priced. The service was poor and also irritating. Obviously a bar maid attending to guests who are eating is not such a great idea. Non attentive, and well as taking shots with customers. I've eaten at many seafood establishments and this is the worst boil bag seafood place I've ever patronized.

He had curly hair, was light skinned, and appeared to be either a waiter or busser. While we were seated, he bumped into my chair at least three times and even hit me in the back of the head while trying to move around the area. He apologized each time, but after it kept happening, it became frustrating and uncomfortable. He was also spraying 409 heavily at the table right next to us while we were eating. It was so much spray that I genuinely felt like it may have gotten on my food. On top of that, he repeatedly dropped things around our table and seemed to have a difficult time maneuvering through the dining area. It honestly made me wonder if the table placement itself was part of the problem The food service was also disappointing. My meal came out first, and I had to wait quite a while for my sister's chicken biscuit. When it finally arrived, the chicken was not cooked all the way through. My pancake and bacon were both good. I just wish the overall experience had matched the quality of those items. Between being repeatedly bumped into, being hit in the head, cleaning chemicals being sprayed next to our food, and undercooked chicken, it made the experience difficult to enjoy.

(This will come up later, but she helped accommodate my personal taste for one of the menu items). Lighting: I'm personally not the biggest fan of dim lighting overall, but I can understand if that's the atmosphere they're going for. Noise Level/Crowdedness: medium-ish noise level (at least at the time we came). We had an early reservation on a Saturday, and within 10 minutes of arriving, the tables were packed. Seating is a bit too dense for my comfort level, but that might just be me. Price: definitely on the higher end, but so worth it for special occasions at least. I forgot to take a picture of the menu, but I'll name prices based off another picture I found online from July 2026. Drinks: MLK $18 -- 6/10 I was really excited to try the MLK since it was basically described as a green tea shot with cocktail ratios, but it kinda didn't deliver for me? Gin & Juice (Peach) $10 -- 5/10 (according to my partner) Food: Salmon Egg Rolls: $16 -- 3/10 Unfortunately, came out terribly lukewarm, and with some bites, downright cold on the inside. Both of us were unsure if that was how they were supposed to be or if they were just not fresh and had been sitting in the kitchen without a warmer for a while. We agreed that if they were at least hot ("freshness" not withstanding), then we both would have given them a higher rating. (We're both pretty nonconfrontational people, so that's why we didn't say anything to our server). Lemon Pepper Chicken Alfredo: $34 -- 9/10 (according to my partner) Definitely incredible, and I can understand why it's one of their more popular options. Pasta Mardi Gras: $26 -- 10/10 I was about to also get the Lemon Pepper Chicken Alfredo, but since it was our first time here, I didn't want to limit what we tried (and it sounded too delicious to pass up). Nautica warned me that it had a bit of a kick to it, but when she saw how worried I looked, she immediately offered to tell the kitchen to lower the spice level. (I want to say my partner has an average spice tolerance, so in terms of scale we usually assume anything that's mild to him is 3x more spicy to me). I know lowering/removing spice/certain ingredients oftentimes takes away the integrity of a dish, but I was so so grateful to Nautica for offering to lower the spice, because that was truly one of the best pastas I have ever had. I really hope when we come back, the server/kitchen is willing to lower the spice again. Butter Cake: $14 -- 9/10 We were surprised to see only one dessert on the menu, and Nautica told us there's a reason for that and that we absolutely had to try it. She was so right. We almost ordered a second one, but we said we'll just have to come back. Receipt: This isn't going to affect whether or not we return, or whether I recommend this place to other people, but just as a heads up to future customers -- there was an automatic gratuity of 20ish% (I can't remember the exact percentage, since this was a month ago now). Nautica was very transparent about this and explained that this 20ish% is shared between all staff, and then she said it was up to us how much additional gratuity we wanted to give her individually. I know this might turn some people off, and admittedly had we known this in advance, it might have turned us off as well, but at the end of the day I still think this restaurant is worth the visit. That being said, this is for management: I won't claim to understand running a restaurant, but adding an automatic gratuity to have customers pick up the bill when it comes to paying your staff fair wages (and that's assuming it really does go to staff) is a deeply concerning business practice. Regardless of my personal opinions on the food, your staff deserve to have a consistent wage not dependent on the finances and whims of your average customers.

You have to use your hands to eat your food and work for it. Go for the seafood Cajun sauce (garlic, butter, lemon pepper). It was super good flavor. Mild is the way to go. We asked for spicy sauce on the side for an extra dollar. I would skip the preset family meals. Order 1-2 lbs of your favorite seafood. They have prices per lb on the large chalk board.
