1.17.26: I was specifically looking for sugar free chocolates for a birthday gift and after some research, I discovered Spokandy carried a small selection of sugar free. The travel time to get there was a little over an hour. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and I told them what I was looking for. They were really helpful and showed me the section of pre-wrapped sugar free options and then they had a section of sugar free chocolates in the display case, where you can purchase anywhere from 1 piece to pounds--price is based on weight. I purchased both wrapped boxes and some more from the display case. I was amazed at the variety and selection of sugar free chocolates and candies that was offered and bought several items to create a sugar free gift basket for my friend's mom, who is a diabetic that loves sweets and chocolates. They also had a sugar free huckleberry jam that I couldn't pass up. Of course, I picked out a handful of treats for myself, which consisted of truffles, jelly sticks, several key lime inspired chocolates, chocolate covered Oreos, marshmallow caramels, a pecan log, and a huge cookies and cream rice krispie treat. The store is pretty big and has a wide variety that even the pickiest of eaters could find something to satisfy their pallet. There's many novelty and gift items, which was fun to look at. They even have a photo booth and props to take pics with. The two female employees working were nice and Ciera, who helped me was really patient and answered all my questions. Subpar chocolates at best. Their signature mints are hands down the best product, even those are just good, not great. The other chocolates and truffles we bought were overly sugared, and clearly had low cocoa content, even the "dark" chocolate. The flavors and quality are more in line with mass-produced supermarket chocolate than what you'd expect from an actual chocolatier. For the prices I expect actual high quality, high cocoa content chocolate. extremely disappointing and not worth the time or price. On top of that the staff wasn't friendly and seemed bothered by any question we asked about the chocolates. We will not be back. read more

My husband usually picks out my box of 1lb chocolates from the counter but in Saturday, it was suggested that he buy a two pound prepackaged box. This sounded like a fast and easy way to make a Mother's Day win, but it wasn't. The 2lb prepackaged box was full of all the stale chocolates no one wanted from who knows how long ago.. The carmels are rocks, brittle chocolate bits break off the others, etc. It's just stale, gross Mother's Day garbage, leaving in the garbage. We've always enjoyed chocolates from the counter, so buyer beware with the prepackaged boxes. read more

Best dark chocolate covered marshmallows anywhere! After buying two at the Chocolate Cafe in Cannon Beach, I had to have more! The marshmallow is scratch made and you can taste the difference; it's soft, billowy with deep vanilla flavor. And the dark chocolate is smooth, not too sweet, and the perfect choice to enrobe the marshmallow. Since I didn't actually eat the treats until I was back in Portland, I could not go back for more so I called the Chocolate Cafe who told me they were made by Spokandy. Thank goodness for the internet and the ability to order online! At first I couldn't find them on their website while doing a search for "Chocolate covered marshmallows." Couldn't get through by phone and being not one to give up, I did a search on "marshmallow" and the Murphy and Chocolate Dip appeared. The Murphy is a whipped marshmallow in the shape of a ball, dipped in chocolate then rolled in coconut. Sounds good, and evidently it's what they are famous for, but I wanted the large square marshmallows covered in dark chocolate. That is the Dip! Score! The Dips come in packages of 4 and since it's the holidays, I ordered 5 packages. I had also tried their dark chocolate pecan turtles, which were divine, so bought a package to bring to Thanksgiving dinner. There is a flat $9.99 shipping fee if you select regular USPS. Everything arrived safely, packaged carefully so that not one marshmallow cracked. I've yet to open a bag as I tend to hoard the things I love the most! I regularly buy squares off of Ghiradelli's site, but sometime I need something fancier. There's a chocolate store near me, but I was doing errands and saw a Spokandy van and was curious. I looked them up then drove down there. Wonderful. It's a cute little store and a nice, long display counter with great variety. The young woman quickly pointed me to the buy a pound, get a half pound free, offer. How evil, and special. I had to give in. I got a pile of the chocolates and a few truffles, just 'cuz. I've already had one regular and one truffle, very nice. The store is on the western edge of downtown. As I try to avoid downtown because of their nasty treatment of riders, I was pleased to see there was both street parking and a small lot. I'll definitely be back. read more

Awesome store. Very clean and well organized inside (you just have to get to the inside). They offered us a sample as soon as we walked in the door, which always wins me over. While we were in the area, we bought a few different types of candies to try. The Murphy's were pretty good, the white chocolate fluff (chocolate filled with white chocolate whipped center maybe? and white chocolate crumbles on top) was delicious, and the salted caramels were tasty. We bought the mints and mix boxes for our mothers, much to their delight! They had a relatively large sugar-free selection. I didn't try any, so I can't vouch for taste. We pick up their mints and chocolate bars at our local Pacific Northwest store, so it was nice to try some of their other options. read more

Was looking for a treat for my sweetheart so I stopped into the Spokandy shop on 2nd. I think I parked a bit illegally on the street (2nd is a 1-way) but who cares. The shop is a delight to the senses. I especially appreciated the ability to individually select the chocolates that went into the 1 pound box I bought. Since caramel filling is one of her favorites, I selected a luscious array of caramels covered with white, dark, and milk chocolate that are still being enjoyed. All for a very reasonable price. This is a very lovely store. I'd be interested in returning had it not been for the terrible first experience I had here, today. From the moment I walked in I felt like the lady behind the counter had dealt with my like wasn't going to buy anything, she didn't have time for me and I didn't belong there. I was offered a sample with an unpleasant tone then she turned her back and walked as far away from the counter as she could. I tried to ask questions and mentioned it was my first time inside, it didn't make a difference. I walk by this place often when it is closed, I was excited to be able to check it out and WAS very interested in what they are doing. Now I couldn't care less and if this is how they do business with first time customers, i don't know why you would care either. Shame, Oh well. read more

I am confused how this business continues to sell candy for the prices they do. Yes, they are a Spokane tradition. Yes, they do involve chocolate. But in all reality, they don't taste any better than something out of a box - which I can get a pound of fro $8.99. About the only thing worth spending the money on there is the sea salf caramels.... but you know what.... you can find them at one of the other local candy manufacturers that don't use chocolate that tastes like wax.
