*Black owned business alert* I went to Split Fire Training this past Saturday and had such a great experience. Michael, Jason, and their dad were all super knowledgeable and made the whole class feel really comfortable especially as a woman, which I really appreciated. Firearms can feel kind of intimidating to learn about, but they broke everything down in a way that made sense and never made you feel dumb for asking questions. The class had both a classroom part and a range portion, and they made sure we were taken care of the whole time. It was hot out that day, but they had canopies set up and offered water and Gatorade to keep everyone hydrated. They even went over how to take your gun apart, clean it, and put it back together. I actually went and bought the cleaning supplies they recommended because I finally feel confident enough to do it myself. I took the basic pistol class that Mike and his father Mike Sr. taught. The course consisted of 2 online instruction sessions and a range day. I'm a beginner and that day at the range was my first time actually firing a firearm. Mike & Mike Sr.are fantastic instructors, who shared their hard won experiences working in the law enforcement and professional protection field. I am a hunter, so I assumed this course would be comfortable for me to take with little effort, but there IS a big difference between shooting game and another human being, if that time were ever to occur. Michael not only taught me to defend myself, but also the discipline you MUST have when armed with a gun. Mike is an outstanding instructor. I completed my initial 16-hour training with him two years ago, and just returned for my 8-hour continuing education course to meet California renewal requirements. His instruction is clear, easy to follow, and well-paced, with plenty of breaks throughout the day. The afternoon shooting session was especially enjoyable, and the class sizes were just right. I had never fired a gun in my 66 years - until yesterday. I took the basic pistol class that Jayson and Michael taught. They are professional, patient, friendly and supportive. Both made me feel welcome and as a beginner I was able to ask questions without feeling intimidated. I was taught stance, grip, trigger control and so much more -even cleaning my firearm.
