Through lectures, videos, and demonstrations in a relaxed setting, he explained firearm safety, pistol features, proper handling, and cleaning. Students examined several types of pistols before using them at the range. They could bring their own firearm or rent one and buy ammunition. Although the outdoor range reduced gunshot noise, the 96-degree July heat was uncomfortable after a while. Tim Trickle is an excellent instructor! I was scared to use my new gun. Met Tim at the United Sports Range in Concord off Willow pass and signed up for his class. He is very knowledgeable and teaches you in a non- threatening manor like some drill sergeant types. He answered all my questions explained the fundamentals of gun safety, proper handling and maintenance. We practiced breaking the firearm down and cleaning it then reassembling. After four hours of instruction the real fun began!! We went out to the practice range and put our training to the test shooting live rounds. Four hours flew by along with 300 rounds!! So much fun!! Completed the CCW 16hr course last weekend and Coco was phenomenal. There were different levels of experience in the class from 1 guy shooting for the first time to others renewing a CCW and carrying daily and Tim and Stuart managed the class so no one was ever behind, nor was anyone waiting for others to catch up. The material and training went what was required for permitting purposes, including real life situations such as a misfire, reloading a magazine while firing, and drawing and firing with a target an arm's length away. I took the CCW Course and was very happy with the materials and agenda. Tim is a honest and professional instructor. Loved how he got straight to the point with no bs and was upfront about certain sections that would be dry/boring but was a necessary mandate to go over in the course. Before we got out on the range, he made sure it was a safe environment by providing a lot of practice and dry runs with step by step tutorials. Besides doing the mock range qualification, we ran through some other drills (clearing jams/failing to chamber) and also cleaning and maintenance of our firearms which I felt was above and beyond my expectations. My son and I just took a fantastic NRA Basic Rifle Class with Coco Firearm Training! Although there are a few similarities, rifles are a completely different experience from pistols. There were 5 people in our class and it was great that we each had different levels of experience and but all wanted to get back into the rifle scene. There were different calibers and actions to choose from and everything feels so SAFE. I never felt awkward to ask a question and the atmosphere is relaxed and so encouraging! The absolute best time was at the range! Safety first and after every 15min shoot we all went down to our targets and discussed what we did, how we could adjust and then walked back to the benches to try things and measure the improvement. All under Tim's watchful eye so we move appropriately on the rifle side of the range. I felt so happy to do this class with my son! He loved it! Today (2-21-2025), I tested and range qualified for my Contra Costa CCW permit with a 90% qualification grade. To prepare for this event, I contacted Tim to teach me the fundamentals of drawing from a holster, acquiring the target, and discharging my weapon (Sig Sauer P226). He patiently showed me how to stand, how to grip my weapon, where to point my weapon and pulling the trigger my pistol. He drilled me over and over again until the procedure became "muscle memory!" To people who are familiar with pistols, this seems sort of ridiculous, but I haven't touched a pistol since I deployed to Iraq with the U.S. Army in 2004! My first shots at the 5 yard line were 4 bullets into the 10 position and 2 shots into the 9 position.
