    i always go to spire vets they are very helpful and friendly and what they charge for their services is very reasonable highly recommended

I have used companion care for ten years and the only time i had good service was when there was a locum vet we saw. Honestly i should have changed earlier but this requires taking all my pets for a consultation which is costly but im now doing exactly that! Today i wanted a prescription for flea collars for my cats and dog this was going to cost me £8.50 per prescription, a bit expensive but so be it. I asked for the large dog prescription for my dog as he is over 10kg which defines which collar i should use. The vet had written a prescription for the small collar. When i questioned this the vet stated i would need to book an appointment as he has not seen the dog recently. Basically he wanted me to pay him another £17.50 to weigh my dog!!! I would buy my pet supplies through the vet practice i use but each collar would have cost me another ten pounds to do this thus i was sourcing them myself which obviously the vet does not want me to do hence all this aggravation over the most common of problems - fleas. This vet has no idea of customer service and is just after as much money as possible from you presumably to pay the high rent costs imposed by Pets at Home to be based on their premises. Again Seriously don't waste your time build up a relationship with one of the other vets in Chesterfield as this Vet really doesn't care.

    Looking at the reviews this vets seem to have improved considerably…read more I used them around 10 years ago. The turning point for me was when I rang in as an anxious pet owner asking about treatment for my dog, the receptionist thought she put me on hold. She then proceeded to use every F word possible and scream that she couldn't F'ing cope with me. Her supervisor came on the phone and I advised her that I had heard everything and she could only apologize. I immediately changed vets and informed them that I could not leave any animal of mine in their care if that is how they spoke about their clients! I also took a Terrapin in for treatment which I had found, the vet looked and hinted they were not funded for wildlife but said the Terrapin looked alright. I then rang the RSPCA who took the poor creature to a sanctuary, it died en route. Coincidentally they then took it to Peak Vets who diagnosed extreme muscle waste. So not alright then? Still they didn't have to treat it as it was dead. The Partner Steve rang me to ask me to clear my bill, no apology! He has since retired. So it was 10 years ago, still a lot of the staff I spoke to are still there. Sorry but had I not heard how that receptionist/vet nurse and her disgusting and disturbing outburst then I would have been none the wiser. Lets hope they have changed!

    The staff here are absolutely wonderful with all kinds of animals and we've taken all sorts down…read morethere; cats, dogs and even degus! Both vets obviously love animals and they are wonderfully reassuring to us worried owners too. The reception staff are also extremely friendly and are on-hand to answer enquiries by email as well if you haven't got an urgent problem. I would definitely recommend these to anyone in the area.

    Life savers!…read more my cat was in an accident a few months back and lots his leg.. the pdsa in Sheffield practical ripped him apart and handed him to a child to stick him back together. he was sent some without pain killers or antibiotics and nearly died! carrick saved him! the staff are brilliant and couldnt have helped more if they tried. they did everything possible and patched up my kittycat perfect and now he's his bouncy old self even with a leg missing. thanks carrick your great!

    Absolutely disgusted in the treatment of my parents today (pensioners) and their dog Lily at the…read moreMansfield practise. Lily hates the car and the vets is a good 30 minutes drive away. Charged for a consultation on Monday as Lily in pain and not eating nor drinking - diagnosis a cut gum/infected tooth. Operation booked for today, no pain meds given just told give her soft food and plenty of water - not easy when dogs jaw in so much pain. Turned up today today to be told not booked in it's for 8th August.... no it isn't it's today as per the highlighted appointment on the pre- op instructions we were give and that's why no painkillers were given Monday. Charged my parents for another consultation today to give pain meds = £80 spent This is not good enough on any level, totally unprofessional to treat a dog that way and totally unacceptable to treat the owners with such disrespect and disregard. I will never take my dog there again after using the same vets for over 17 years, such a pity Neil ( former owner) would be horrified.

If you care for your pet - stay away from them! 100% money-driven practice! They don't inform upfront about the estimate cost of treatment , unless you specifically ask for the price! Not to mention, unless you request it, they don't give you the invoice, noir signed consent form copy or treatment plant copy. Very poor , almost to none, stock of medical supplies! 11 days, 11 sleepless nights, 3 tripps and £450 wasted and we are back or bellow initial point. To be totally honest, after all we've been through, I am now convinced that the Ark vets had no intentions to save my bird at all, but to their surprise, my medical knowledge overcame their carelessness and incompetence, and I've kept her alive! In order to pursue a full refund for veterinary negligence, incompetence and breach of contract, I will initiate the required formal complaint process and if necessary, I won't be hesitant to take the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman. Additionally, forms for complaints regarding the behavior of their veterinary staff have been received after my conversation with the Royal Veterinary College of Surgeons earlier today and will be filled and submitted
