But when it was time to let him go he was amazing very compassionate.. he then treated me huge mastiff. And I book for me boy to go to sleep at home. But I didn't want him to know.. Ian gave me tablets to give him because he came,, my boy went with dignity and I was looked after by Ian.. I have my dog cremated these times was hard but helped by knowing I trusted Ian to advise me. And he was there for me.. That's why everyone came from everywhere for this vets practice.. because Ian Taylor was a man that knew what he was doing across the board. Now there's no Ian. Bruce is away again.. I have only weeks ago had my bitch spade. I took her back for a check up 3 days after like I was told. I was called in by a vet I couldn't understand he then ask for me girl to be turn over or held up.. I was appalled my partner had to grab my girl move her out the way because he was going to take her stitches out. He couldn't understand she was her for a check up three days after her operation.. I felt sick. I have for dogs registered with spire vets. It as change so much. You don't get a vet you know very often. You can't understand the vet you see. And I asked for help because one of my rescued bulldogs was have trouble with the traveling and it was making it impossible to get him checked after getting him there and having to wait hours.. so when I ask for help just once to see a vet I know and trust and could I be told or phoned when to get him in asap so he could be put on the pills I had been told would help by Lucy.. I was shocked as I meet a brick wall at the desk to book in. And I was told it may be better to to my dog to a vet closer to my home. I said if I couldn't be helped I would not be taking one dog somewhere else I would be taking all three.. if this is how customers that have been very loyal with horses and dogs for approx 20 yr I don't give much hope for spire to keep its good name. What a shame. And it as gone down since Ian's retirement I have book another bulldog bitch in to have her spayed and picked her up on a Friday night we got the at 5 0clock I though we will not be adole to park and with be a long wait.. I was shocked there was two people in there. And one more came before we left. I have never known this of spire vets. It shows me other cumstomers must feel the same as myself but it is such a very big loss. Spire vets was known far and wide, But I feel it will not last much longer if Bruce don't show the customers the same care that Ian Taylor was known for.. It will be a great loss to Chesterfield and a big gain to many more vets..

The turning point for me was when I rang in as an anxious pet owner asking about treatment for my dog, the receptionist thought she put me on hold. She then proceeded to use every F word possible and scream that she couldn't F'ing cope with me. Her supervisor came on the phone and I advised her that I had heard everything and she could only apologize. I immediately changed vets and informed them that I could not leave any animal of mine in their care if that is how they spoke about their clients! I also took a Terrapin in for treatment which I had found, the vet looked and hinted they were not funded for wildlife but said the Terrapin looked alright. I then rang the RSPCA who took the poor creature to a sanctuary, it died en route. Coincidentally they then took it to Peak Vets who diagnosed extreme muscle waste. So not alright then? Still they didn't have to treat it as it was dead. The Partner Steve rang me to ask me to clear my bill, no apology! He has since retired. So it was 10 years ago, still a lot of the staff I spoke to are still there. Sorry but had I not heard how that receptionist/vet nurse and her disgusting and disturbing outburst then I would have been none the wiser. Lets hope they have changed!

The staff here are absolutely wonderful with all kinds of animals and we've taken all sorts down…read morethere; cats, dogs and even degus! Both vets obviously love animals and they are wonderfully reassuring to us worried owners too. The reception staff are also extremely friendly and are on-hand to answer enquiries by email as well if you haven't got an urgent problem. I would definitely recommend these to anyone in the area.

Life savers!…read more my cat was in an accident a few months back and lots his leg.. the pdsa in Sheffield practical ripped him apart and handed him to a child to stick him back together. he was sent some without pain killers or antibiotics and nearly died! carrick saved him! the staff are brilliant and couldnt have helped more if they tried. they did everything possible and patched up my kittycat perfect and now he's his bouncy old self even with a leg missing. thanks carrick your great!

Absolutely disgusted in the treatment of my parents today (pensioners) and their dog Lily at the…read moreMansfield practise. Lily hates the car and the vets is a good 30 minutes drive away. Charged for a consultation on Monday as Lily in pain and not eating nor drinking - diagnosis a cut gum/infected tooth. Operation booked for today, no pain meds given just told give her soft food and plenty of water - not easy when dogs jaw in so much pain. Turned up today today to be told not booked in it's for 8th August.... no it isn't it's today as per the highlighted appointment on the pre- op instructions we were give and that's why no painkillers were given Monday. Charged my parents for another consultation today to give pain meds = £80 spent This is not good enough on any level, totally unprofessional to treat a dog that way and totally unacceptable to treat the owners with such disrespect and disregard. I will never take my dog there again after using the same vets for over 17 years, such a pity Neil ( former owner) would be horrified.

Not to mention, unless you request it, they don't give you the invoice, noir signed consent form copy or treatment plant copy. Very poor , almost to none, stock of medical supplies! 11 days, 11 sleepless nights, 3 tripps and £450 wasted and we are back or bellow initial point. To be totally honest, after all we've been through, I am now convinced that the Ark vets had no intentions to save my bird at all, but to their surprise, my medical knowledge overcame their carelessness and incompetence, and I've kept her alive! In order to pursue a full refund for veterinary negligence, incompetence and breach of contract, I will initiate the required formal complaint process and if necessary, I won't be hesitant to take the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman. Additionally, forms for complaints regarding the behavior of their veterinary staff have been received after my conversation with the Royal Veterinary College of Surgeons earlier today and will be filled and submitted
