The turning point for me was when I rang in as an anxious pet owner asking about treatment for my dog, the receptionist thought she put me on hold. She then proceeded to use every F word possible and scream that she couldn't F'ing cope with me. Her supervisor came on the phone and I advised her that I had heard everything and she could only apologize. I immediately changed vets and informed them that I could not leave any animal of mine in their care if that is how they spoke about their clients! I also took a Terrapin in for treatment which I had found, the vet looked and hinted they were not funded for wildlife but said the Terrapin looked alright. I then rang the RSPCA who took the poor creature to a sanctuary, it died en route. Coincidentally they then took it to Peak Vets who diagnosed extreme muscle waste. So not alright then? Still they didn't have to treat it as it was dead. The Partner Steve rang me to ask me to clear my bill, no apology! He has since retired. So it was 10 years ago, still a lot of the staff I spoke to are still there. Sorry but had I not heard how that receptionist/vet nurse and her disgusting and disturbing outburst then I would have been none the wiser. Lets hope they have changed!

I cannot recommend Aislinn Rooney enough. I took my pet rats to her, and although they are quite…read moreniche, Aislinn was happy to listen to any suggestions I had from past experiences/research, and consult one of her colleagues who specialised in exotic animals. Most importantly, she handled my animals with love and care, as well as being very empathetic towards me as their owner when things weren't going great. She never gave up when treating a particularly nasty respiratory illness, and tried multiple variations of antibiotics, steroid injections, sub-Q fluid and even an inhaler. If I had any questions, she made me feel very welcome to ask them, and my animals felt at ease with her (as much as can be expected towards a needle bearing giant anyway). The receptionists are lovely, and always try to have a chat if they're not busy. Their attitude is great and again they make you feel very welcome. Onto the negatives then... One of my pets unfortunately died, and upon my next visit to the vets for an unrelated matter, they wrote 'Service provided: Euthanasia & Cremation: Died at Home-Small Animal. No=1. Amount including VAT=0.00. The vets played no part in my animal's death, he died at home. I don't see why this was put on my receipt, and it really upset me. That being said I did point this out to a nurse, who took down details and said it shouldn't have happened. The biggest negative: Alistair Boyd. Went to him with my rat who had a swollen eye. This could have been a large number of things, however he looked at it, and instantly decided it was 'something viral' to which he couldn't do anything. I would have accepted this diagnosis if he had first asked about the rat's living environment to see if preventative measures could be taken in the future, used a ophthalmoscope for a more accurate insight into the components of the eye, tried staining the eye to check for breaches to the cornea. He also never mentioned home care to help the rat had it had been a viral infection, although he did prescribe metacam (although the rat was already on it). Compresses and flushing the eye can provide the rat comfort, and he failed to point this out. My rat was on death's doorstep - wouldn't eat and was gasping for air. When I tried unconventional methods such as giving my rat a human inhaler, Aislinn pointed out that although we don't know how safe that is, if the rat appears to be dying, the worst it can do is speed up the process. However I gave my rat ibuprofen (according to the Exotic Animal Formulary 2001, 2012 and Drug Dosage in Laboratory Animals : A Handbook, 1990, as well as another vet's recommendations) to which he bluntly told me I could have killed my rat, and when I told him I had researched it and another vet had said it was acceptable, he began patronising me telling me 'not to believe everything I read on the internet'. I ended up with the same medicine I already had. Although for the metacam, which was the dog solution, he was genuinely going to give me a DOG sized syringe for a rat. I had to ask for something more appropriate, with Aislinn this was done automatically. Secondly, although the dose of the tablet provided was one eighth of a tablet, he didn't think to cut the tablets up into single doses, unlike Aislinn. I would advise you to keep your animals far far farrr away from this man, who I have perceived to be in the industry for the money alone.

The first problem concerned a bad mis-diagnosis in 2017 of my elderly mother's dog on which she doted. Arundells' vet insisted that her problems were related to a build-up of fatty tissue and NOT cancer, as we had suspected. After a subsequent and very expensive MRI scanning procedure at another vet, our fears were shown to be accurate and the dog was finally put to sleep. Our own precious retriever/spaniel cross became ill one night and we had to take him into Bennetthorpe in the early hours of the morning to see what was to be done. I am sure that nothing could have been done to save him, he was 13yrs old, but we felt that over £600 in less than 6 hours was a fairly hefty fee to pick up a dead body. This week our latest and final problem has occurred with our Labrador puppy who has been registered here since June 2019 when we got him at 10 weeks old. It may have been difficult to spot a hip issue at his early health-check and attendance for immunization, but we had an increasing concern that all was not well. He was subsequently castrated (far too young as we are now told, but we were not advised of this by Arundells at the time or we would certainly have re-thought the action). Recently, the arrogance and unhelpful behavior of Arundells' staff was highlighted when we attempted to have them sign off on our Labrador puppy's planned visit to a physiotherapist - what ensued was a veritable circus of poor communication and organization. Ahead of the physio visit, we asked for a consent note from the vet who had seen him last. This was agreed to, but the consent order was wrongly sent for him to be operated on and not for physio. We asked for the proper form to be sent, having booked him in for an appointment that evening. At 5.20pm we received a call from Claire, who warrants a special mention as the self-important 'head receptionist' who apart from being rude and unhelpful refused to send the correct consent order until we had paid for him to be seen again by a vet there. It seems we could have him operated upon, but he wasn't to be permitted a consultation for physiotherapy! Given the time of the return call (5 hours after we had first made the request) there was in any event nobody available at Arundells to see him in time, anyway. Now dealing with the fallout of this encounter, further exploration has shown up a previously undiagnosed issue which we are trying to address - at another vet. All of this is a great shame as we have the utmost respect for the senior vet in this practice, but we would certainly not go back there.

But when it was time to let him go he was amazing very compassionate.. he then treated me huge mastiff. And I book for me boy to go to sleep at home. But I didn't want him to know.. Ian gave me tablets to give him because he came,, my boy went with dignity and I was looked after by Ian.. I have my dog cremated these times was hard but helped by knowing I trusted Ian to advise me. And he was there for me.. That's why everyone came from everywhere for this vets practice.. because Ian Taylor was a man that knew what he was doing across the board. Now there's no Ian. Bruce is away again.. I have only weeks ago had my bitch spade. I took her back for a check up 3 days after like I was told. I was called in by a vet I couldn't understand he then ask for me girl to be turn over or held up.. I was appalled my partner had to grab my girl move her out the way because he was going to take her stitches out. He couldn't understand she was her for a check up three days after her operation.. I felt sick. I have for dogs registered with spire vets. It as change so much. You don't get a vet you know very often. You can't understand the vet you see. And I asked for help because one of my rescued bulldogs was have trouble with the traveling and it was making it impossible to get him checked after getting him there and having to wait hours.. so when I ask for help just once to see a vet I know and trust and could I be told or phoned when to get him in asap so he could be put on the pills I had been told would help by Lucy.. I was shocked as I meet a brick wall at the desk to book in. And I was told it may be better to to my dog to a vet closer to my home. I said if I couldn't be helped I would not be taking one dog somewhere else I would be taking all three.. if this is how customers that have been very loyal with horses and dogs for approx 20 yr I don't give much hope for spire to keep its good name. What a shame. And it as gone down since Ian's retirement I have book another bulldog bitch in to have her spayed and picked her up on a Friday night we got the at 5 0clock I though we will not be adole to park and with be a long wait.. I was shocked there was two people in there. And one more came before we left. I have never known this of spire vets. The Clinical Director at Beechwood Vetswho lists "BVSc GP Cert (SAM)(SAS)(Cardio) PgC SAC MRCVS" after her name chose to offer various excuses to me as to why Beechwood Vets did not provide the service that they took payment for. Three of my favourites include: we was "busy"; your pet was "overlooked" ....and my very favourite.... "unfortunately we're all human". BUYER BEWARE of the implications of accepting refunds offered on an ex-gratia basis or gestures of goodwill.... and beware of people who list letters after their name and assume those who do not list letters after their name lack common sense. There is no rush to get you 'in and out' like other practices we have used and the friendly reception staff make dealing with insurance claims extremely easy - especially with their direct claim process. Jasper was unfortunate enough to need a referral to a neurologist earlier in the year and within days of finding out the news we had an appointment with a specialist veterinary neurologist from the same practice group. All whilst being reassured by Mark that we were in the best hands. I wouldn't trust anywhere else with our fur children!

Life savers!…read more my cat was in an accident a few months back and lots his leg.. the pdsa in Sheffield practical ripped him apart and handed him to a child to stick him back together. he was sent some without pain killers or antibiotics and nearly died! carrick saved him! the staff are brilliant and couldnt have helped more if they tried. they did everything possible and patched up my kittycat perfect and now he's his bouncy old self even with a leg missing. thanks carrick your great!

Charged for a consultation on Monday as Lily in pain and not eating nor drinking - diagnosis a cut gum/infected tooth. Operation booked for today, no pain meds given just told give her soft food and plenty of water - not easy when dogs jaw in so much pain. Turned up today today to be told not booked in it's for 8th August.... no it isn't it's today as per the highlighted appointment on the pre- op instructions we were give and that's why no painkillers were given Monday. Charged my parents for another consultation today to give pain meds = £80 spent This is not good enough on any level, totally unprofessional to treat a dog that way and totally unacceptable to treat the owners with such disrespect and disregard. I will never take my dog there again after using the same vets for over 17 years, such a pity Neil ( former owner) would be horrified.
