    Pasta in the Cheese Wheel
    Alyssa A.

We chose to stay at the Sofitel Hotel while in Manila because we had been wanting to try this restaurant for the longest time. However, I feel using the term restaurant doesn't exactly do Spiral justice - it's more like an experience. Just to get into the restaurant, you have to (or get to) walk down this beautiful spiral staircase that takes you directly to the heart of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is an elaborate buffet with more than a dozen different stations that focus on a different cuisine from around the world. Besides Filipino food, they had Japanese, French, and Italian to name a few. No length of review will be able to hit everything, so I'll just name a few of my highlights. If you have pasta, you can order it directly from their giant cheese wheel - and this is a must because pasta served from the cheese wheel is the best. They also have an entire room dedicated to cheese with a service member present to educate you on the different types of cheeses and send you on your way with a sampler platter. Their dessert section has the most delicious gelato. What I didn't realize going there is that they also do an amazing breakfast buffet in the same style as dinner with multiple different flavors of cuisine from around the world. We had breakfast here every morning we stayed at the hotel, and I enjoyed trying a different theme of breakfast each time. While the smoked salmon was my favorite, they also had a great omelet bar and, of course, the best Filipino food. We paid for the included breakfast when we booked our room, and would 100% recommend it and do it again next time we return. This is a must stop when in Manila.

I'm going to start off my review by saying how excited my girlfriend and I were to have a chance to come here on our trip to the Philippines. We came here a couple months ago and after years of watching YouTubers come here and hype it up. But overall we were a little disappointed especially me. There's a lot of variety here. And a lot of different cuisines, but it seems like some of it they just miss the mark on quality. From the pasta being overcooked and not al dente as well as it being bland it was disappointing to say the least because I love the hell out of pasta. But the pizza on the other hand it was pretty good. I love how it was made it seemed pretty authentic and I especially loved the mushroom pizza. The best part of that section was the foie gras and it was unlimited we ate to our hearts content. Probably the best quality compared to a lot of the stuff in the buffet. The sushi was dissapointing not much variety and the way they made the maki rolls was not as tasty as I hoped. The sashimi was not that good. Some of it was cut poorly. The taste just wasn't there. The quality just wasn't it. The tempura they had was over battered, but tasted okay. The grilled yakitori section was okay, but it was a little dry. The desserts were dissapointing. Nothing stood out in flavor and if they did it was for the wrong reasons. We tried more things, but there wasn't anything really memorable. Wish I could have tried the ice cream and seafood. But we were already stuffed and we just got off the plane so we were feeling that great. As a place that's said to be a world class buffet by many people it definitely does not meet the mark especially in quality at it's price point. Maybe it was an off day, but who knows. I would recommend it as a try once in your life when you can.

We have been to the Spiral three times. The first time we came was shortly after we first arrived in the Philippines. We were quickly taken to a very nice table and had everything explained to us. Our experience with the food was heavenly. It was overwhelming just how big the buffet is, and just how many types of cuisines you can sample. We loved the cheese room. Their selection of desserts is amazing as well. I loved their brulee. The second time, we received the same treatment, and had the same waitress who made sure we were most welcome. This time we'd also received some delicious purple bread. I think it might have been made from yams, but I'm not sure. However, our third visit was a little less than perfect. We were sat at a tiny table right in front of the kitchen door. I was constantly concerned that I would bump into a server when I left my chair. What was ironic was this time we were guests at the hotel. After two really stellar experiences, the third experience was so disappointing.

Everything was fresh!! Did not eat too many carbs- didn't was to fill up. Ate a lot of small bites to try as much as possible from the 22 stations. Atmosphere was fine. We ate there for Tuesday lunch buffet and stayed in the hotel so had a discount. The variety of the food and the friendliness of the staff made us feel glad to be there. We had a party of 5. Would go again if in Manila.

Amazing selection of food, friendly chefs all around. Clean areas. For the price I wished that non alcoholic drinks were included, but its not. Definitely great to have experienced, but only for special occassions. We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary with the family here, and we were all happy.

    The taho server. Very cool!

I had high hopes for Spiral. First, this is a beautiful restaurant . The "Spiral" staircase is breathtaking. Big selection of food. Some pretty good, some meh. Juices are freshly squeezed. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. They even have a guy who will serve taho table side. However, charging $23 for a mimosa is preposterous! Yes, you heard it right, TWENTY THREE U.S dollars for a glass. You'd think they used a $200+ bottle of French champagne but it turned out to be Veuve Clicquot. We practically paid for half a bottle! It took 4 people to talk to regarding the cost of the mimosa, like we were the first ones to order the cocktail. If you ever decide to order a specialty drink, I suggest asking for the price first. Will I consider eating here again? I don't think so.

Overall an amazing dining experience to cap off our Philippines vacation. For starters, we knew about this restaurant prior to travelling to the Philippines (due in part to following food Vlogger and Youtuber, Mikey Chen). The popularity, alone, of this restaurant was enough for it to make it onto our "to-do-list" during my family's visit to the Philippines. So whether it was at the beginning of our trip or at the end, we knew we had dine at this restaurant! For anyone who is familiar with travelling in and around Metro Manila/Manila, Philippines (or walked outside of NAIA for more than a minute, in fact), there is a "learned" degree of patience when it comes to sitting in traffic. However, due to the location (in Pasay) of the restaurant, it is relatively close to the airport. Not only that, but Pasay, itself, somehow manages to escape this cardinal traffic condition that affects the majority of the metropolis. Therefore, your pre-meal anxiety sitting in traffic is less severe, if you so choose to select Spiral for your dining experience in Manila. The restaurant is located within the premise of the Sofitel Hotel/Resort grounds, which is in itself another marvel. To get to the restaurant, you simply enter through the main entrance of the hotel, and more or less walk straight until you are met with a rather grand spiral staircase (there are escalators available to access the various floors of the hotel to include the restaurant if you are unable to traverse the stairs) and an "overhead" view of the dining area. At the time we went, they had just setup their Christmas tree in preparation for the festivities to come in December around which the staircase wrapped perfectly. Needless to say, the "feng shui" was very pleasing to the eye. The staff were most friendly and accommodating to our needs. We were greeted with respect and kindness (despite we were way under dressed compared to some of the other patrons who were adorned with Santa Clara style and Barong attire). We were promptly seated and began our hassle free dining experience. In terms of buffet, I believe Spiral represents the pinnacle of what you can achieve in terms of style of dining. Along with the virtues of quality and delivering food with minimal waste, Spiral has perfected not only the "buffet" experience, but dining in general. The varieties and offerings of food mainly derive from and focus on Asian cuisines (Filipino, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Japanese, etc.), however, the patron will also find Italian and French tastings, an acclimatized cheese and charcuterie room, salad bar, and bakery and confectionery station. Oh, and not to mention that each of these stations are complimented with a staff of cuisine specialist whom stand ready to tailor some of the tastings to your personal preference. Simply stating, the buffet delivers the awe and grandeur when it comes to visual appeal, whilst offering a surprisingly inviting feel to the patrons. Toward the end of our dining experience, a group of select staff sealed the deal on our complete and overwhelming liking of Spiral. It was my daughter's birthday, and the staff at Spiral served her a personalized cake topped with a candle, and personalized message. Not only that, but Rey C., Pia, Francois, Derlin, and Anne-Sophie delivered an American Idol's worthy rendition of the Happy Birthday song for my daughter and family. Thank you to Rey C, Pia, Francois, Derlin, and Anne-Sophie for making this one of the best dining experiences for my family! (They took a picture of my family, and presented it in a personalized birthday card upon which they each signed! Awesome!). This is a definite must visit for anyone going to the Philippines! We are most definitely stopping here again on our next Philippines trip! (ref. review on TA)

My cousins treated me to Spiral for my last night in Manila. This is their favorite buffet. I was intrigued with the various cuisine you can choose from: Chinese, Thai, Filipino, French, Grilled /Carved meats, American, and a dessert line up also. This not like the buffets I'm used to in the US where you get a plate and you serve yourself. At Spiral, they serve you so you tell them what you want and how much of it. I definitely enjoyed what I got and will come back when I visit Manila again!

Heard great things about this spot. Wanted to have a place to celebrate 2 occasions. Bit lavish but it's worth the occasional being celebrated. Best decorated hotel in Manila. Beautiful sweeping spiral staircase in the middle. Staff was friendly and understanding. We were seated and offered drinks not on the menu and are separate charges. We ordered 2 and a glass of rosé. We went to get food. The buffet was well laid out for each available region. A lot of shellfish and salads. I was looking forward to the Filipino choices but there was not a lot. Plenty of European and Far East choices. Overall we didn't think the high price merited the experience. The food was disappointing. He service well done. Spiral gets a low recommendation. Good for special occasions.

Circles Event Café -- a buffet experience that spoiled me (in the best way)…read more I had a true five-star experience at Circles Event Café inside the Makati Shangri-La, and I don't say that lightly. The experience was so consistently excellent that I ate here five days in a row--something I've never done at any other restaurant. Dinner was outstanding. I tried a wide variety of sushi (fresh, well-balanced, and properly chilled), carved beef roast that was tender and flavorful, and tandoori fish and chicken that were perfectly spiced--aromatic, moist, and clearly handled by cooks who know what they're doing. This wasn't "buffet good"; it was legitimately good food that just happened to be part of a buffet. The dessert and fruit options were just as impressive. The gelato was smooth and rich, and the dragon fruit was so fresh and abundant that I kept going back for more--clean, bright, and refreshing after a heavy plate. Breakfast deserves its own mention. I ate a mountain of crispy bacon paired with an equal amount of perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs, plus potatoes. Everything was hot, replenished constantly, and cooked exactly how you'd want it--simple food executed flawlessly. What truly sets Circles apart, though, is the service. This is hands-down the best customer service I've ever experienced at a buffet. The staff are attentive without hovering, genuinely warm, and incredibly efficient. Plates disappear quickly, drinks are refilled without asking, and every interaction feels polished yet sincere. The ambience matches the food and service--elegant, calm, and upscale without feeling stuffy. It's the kind of place where you can relax and enjoy the experience, whether you're there for a long dinner or starting your day with breakfast. Bottom line: Circles Event Café isn't just a hotel buffet--it's a world-class dining experience. If you're in Makati and want variety, quality, and exceptional service all in one place, this is absolutely worth it. I'd go back again without hesitation.

Complaint Against Buffet 101 Glorietta 2 (Dine at your own risk)…read more This is to share our very disappointing experience at Buffet 101 Glorietta 2 during our family gathering on December 26, 2025 (lunch, 11:30 AM - 3:30PM). We were a group of 28 pax, celebrating our Christmas party, our late grandmother's death anniversary, December birthday celebrators, and a family reunion. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a joyful occasion turned into a frustrating and disrespectful experience due to the following: 1. Reservation Issue * We reserved the function room as early as November 11, 2025, with a 50% downpayment as required. * Prior to payment, my sister personally visited on Nov 10 and was ushered by 2 staff members to the function room. I also rechecked the venue the next day before making the payment. * I even received a call on Dec 25th to confirm our reservation in the function room. * Despite these, upon arrival on Dec 26, the receptionist claimed our reservation had no endorsement for the function room. We had to explain and insist, and only after waiting 10-15 minutes were we accommodated--because another group was already occupying the room we reserved. 2. Food Quality * While advertised as "unlimited refill," several food stations were incomplete. * Items like pork belly were served cold, and some stations had missing dishes, which was disappointing for a buffet of this caliber. 3. Birthday Presentation Mismanagement * Around 1:30-2 PM, staff offered the customary birthday sing-and-dance for our three celebrators. We agreed, expecting it to happen promptly. * Instead, staff delayed, setting up equipment but never performing. This wasted our scheduled time for parlor games, forcing us to cancel the presentation altogether. 4. Food Restock Cut-Off * At 2:30 PM, staff informed us that food restocking would end at 2:45 PM. We acknowledged this and thanked the member who informed us. * At 2:40 PM, I settled the remaining balance and even gave a tip--something I regretted after what happened next. 5. The Blackout Incident * At 3:10 PM., the lights in our function room were "unintentionally" turned off. Not for a second, but for several minutes. One by one, we went outside. * Only our room was affected, creating chaos as family members scrambled to gather belongings using phone flashlights. * Adding insult to injury, my brother lost ₱500, during the blackout. 6. Poor Handling & Lack of Compensation * Some of the relatives confronted the staff and manager in the lobby. The staff member/cashier responsible admitted it was "unintentional". The manager kept on repeating the same explanation as the cashier's, who switched off the lights, but never offered even a single good resolution. It seemed to us that he offered the staff member as the bait. They apologized, but the apology felt insincere. * When asked about compensation, the manager and staff fell silent. No courtesy check was done before switching off the lights, and no concrete resolution was offered. Additionally, no proper channels are available for such incidents except for platforms such as their Facebook page, Google Reviews, and TripAdvisor. * We remained diplomatic and respectful, with no cussing, but the lack of accountability was unacceptable! This experience left our entire family frustrated, disrespected, and disappointed. What should have been a day of celebration was ruined by poor management, lack of professionalism, and negligence. We sincerely hope Buffet 101 Glorietta 2 takes this as a lesson to improve customer service, reservation handling, food quality, and staff accountability. Families come to your establishment to celebrate milestones--please ensure they leave with happy memories, not frustration. And as I told your staff members that day: "If you were in our shoes, having fun and celebrating with your family members, how would you feel if the lights were suddenly turned off without warning? How would that make you feel?"

Escolta at The Peninsula Manila: Buffet Review by Tina…read more I recently tried Escolta, the buffet restaurant inside The Peninsula Manila. It's positioned as a Filipino buffet, but the selection felt more international with random touches. What's on the buffet: * Filipino dishes: mahi-mahi, grilled seafood, classic viands * Japanese corner: sushi, maki, katsudon * Grill station: you can ask them to grill seafood or meat * Carving station: they serve lamb and other roasts * Desserts: wide selection of native delicacies like maja blanca, plus sorbets and ice cream (even soba ice cream) * Bread and cheese are also available, but nothing stood out Price: * I couldn't confirm the exact buffet rate, but it's somewhere around ₱3,500-₱4,500 per head. You can check their current rates online or via the hotel concierge. Ambience and service: * Elegant hotel setting as expected * Staff are very attentive and polite * Quiet, well-maintained dining space, not too crowded when I went My verdict: * The variety felt a bit confused. It says Filipino buffet, but the highlight was the Japanese and grill stations * Food was decent, but not something I'd personally pay over ₱4,000 for * Would I go back? Only if I'm treated or attending a special occasion * For the price, there are better buffet experiences in Manila (Circles in Shang mkt , The Alley at Conrad, or even Nobu brunch)

We loved the first time we had breakfast there and came back the next morning before we had to fly out to Boracay. I've been to a lot of breakfast buffets in the US and both the food quality and service from the employees working here can't even compare. Kate (Katie?) and Mono were on top of everything and seem to know right away if we needed any assistance of any question. I merely stood by the egg station for a few seconds waiting to be helped and Mono saw me, walked over right away and got someone to help me from over the counter so I wouldn't have to wait long. Lots of warm smiles and the employees working during the times we dined. They seem to have the genuine drive and initiative to make sure every guest is taken care of and antennas are raised to help guests at a moments notice. Food quality was also high for a buffet. With some vegetables sourced from Baguio, several selections of freshly juiced fruits/vegetables and quality sourced ingredients from all over Philippines. It was not your usual breakfast buffet spread. I would not hesitate to dine there again for breakfast and would want to try their lunch/dinner buffet if the experience will still be the same.
