Me and my guests tonight at Circles Events Cafe of Shangri-la Makati.
    Hans L.

We went to Circles Events Cafe tonight (12.17.20) to celebrate my 50th birthday with friends. Our reservation was at 7pm. We arrived 7:20pm and was ushered to our table. But the disappointment began when we started getting our food. The place is open for dinner from 5:30pm to 10pm. It's just halfway to their service, everything was already not looking good. Food was so limited. When you ask the servers (I dare not call them chefs because how the acted is an insult to their profession) they will say there is no more to serve. First bad experience was with the cheese section. I asked is there was still blue cheese. She said, there was no more. When my friend asked her again, she tried to look for blue cheese. When she came back, she had a few slices and said that's the last of it. Hello? What kind of hotel is this? The last time I checked I am at Shangri-la Makati! Second bad experience was with the bread. Imagine being told, sir that's the last of it and I've given it all to you. Third bad experience was on the meat carving section. My guest was being given the part of the roasted meat that he didn't like. You know that part where when you chew it, it's a bit tough because of the ligaments. He was told that they have to finish that batch before they bring out a new one. My friend had to threaten him that he will call for the head chef if he will not give him a better cut of meat. Fourth bad experience was in the Japanese section. My guest asked for salmon Sashimi. The pseudo chef said there was no more. After we complained, behold the Sashimi arrived! What kind of service are they doing? Fifth bad experience was in the Chinese section. I jolly asked what was being served. The server said the only available were chicken siomai and Peking duck wrap. I asked if they will not replenish and he said no more. That's the time I lost my temper! I said it's only 8pm and your not replenishing? I turned my back and went away disappointed! I lost appetite that I did not check the rest of their food! This was a very disappointing experience eating at Circles Events Cafe! Comparing with The Heat at EDSA Shangri-la, Circles doesn't come close! I will never come back here and I will never ever recommend eating here.

AMBIENCE We had a relaxing family lunch and it was pretty roomy where we sat and when getting food. I noticed there were some tables, like ours, that felt a bit more private and peaceful. FOOD I'll do jots. Bread Pudding tasted like leche flan. Ice-cream flavors I liked were strawberry, matcha and definitely raspberry sorbet (most flavorful). Cookie was chunky. All cakes tried were interesting. One was milky and another had mango with mild sweetness. U.S. Striploin was cut into perfectly thin slices, service medium rare unless you request otherwise. Peppercorn sauce was a great partner! All Indian dishes were excellent, new to me, and very much worth the excitement since they're not common in my books. Mildy spicy. Breathing space! Cocktail shrimps and mussels were excellent with cocktail sauce, nice and cold, picked right off the ice they were mounted on. Tempura had thin batter, making me feel less guilty. Assorted Maki was on display but you CAN request for sashimi and they'll give you a plateful if you want. I had two salmon sashimi plates and felt really, really good! Smelled good, tasted even better! SERVICE Water refills were served fairly quickly and it's nice to know certain food can be delivered to your table. It's convenient and classy but we got 'em ourselves because the walking helped us have breaks.

I've eaten here during my stay at shangri-la 3 times now. The buffet has a wide selection of food. From sushi to American to middle Easter and Filipino dishes. They have make your own pasta stations and a rotisserie station as well. They even have dimsum. The food is pretty good. They have a seafood section as well. No crab legs but they have shrimps, prawns, mussels and clams. You can even request to have them grill the shrimp/prawns if you like. The sushi is fresh. Although they only have a limited selection of sushi, it still is good. The prime rib is my favorite so far. You can have them grill it more as well if you like it more on the well done side. The dessert station is pretty big. They have a halo halo station that isn't bad. Drinks are not included in the price. The buffet is on the pricey side around 2100 pesos (around $45 USD). You can order drinks as an additional charge. I believe they have an endless glass for iced teas for 125 pesos. I wish the drinks were included for like sodas and iced teas and coffees. However, if you are willing to shell out the cash and are in the makati area, try this buffet out.

It's safe to say that Circles is my all time favorite buffet in the Philippines! Circles serves food with awesome quality, and also have servers who are extremely pleasant and attentive! Circles has just the right amount of options of food to choose from. I usually enjoy going to Circles for breakfast because I am crazy about breakfast food. I get their Eggs florentine or egg benedict, with bacon, fruits, yogurt, smoked salmon, potatoes, etc! I also make sure to to go to the Japanese section which has a really good selection of makis and sushi! Their desserts, fruits, and pastries selection are also very good! I also recommend Circles fresh orange juice! I've also gone to Circles for lunch, and dinner, and I always walk out of every meal I've had there very satisfied.

Circles has great ambience, its glass windows open to a fountain and garden that make dining really sumptuous and relaxing, wait staff are very solicitous and accommodating. Food choices are just fine, not something you can compare to well established buffets and for 30$ pax, you tend to have that expectation. The sashimi and sushi tends to go dry as is usual if left too long out. Plenty of dishes that can address any need.

Complaint Against Buffet 101 Glorietta 2 (Dine at your own risk)…read more This is to share our very disappointing experience at Buffet 101 Glorietta 2 during our family gathering on December 26, 2025 (lunch, 11:30 AM - 3:30PM). We were a group of 28 pax, celebrating our Christmas party, our late grandmother's death anniversary, December birthday celebrators, and a family reunion. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a joyful occasion turned into a frustrating and disrespectful experience due to the following: 1. Reservation Issue * We reserved the function room as early as November 11, 2025, with a 50% downpayment as required. * Prior to payment, my sister personally visited on Nov 10 and was ushered by 2 staff members to the function room. I also rechecked the venue the next day before making the payment. * I even received a call on Dec 25th to confirm our reservation in the function room. * Despite these, upon arrival on Dec 26, the receptionist claimed our reservation had no endorsement for the function room. We had to explain and insist, and only after waiting 10-15 minutes were we accommodated--because another group was already occupying the room we reserved. 2. Food Quality * While advertised as "unlimited refill," several food stations were incomplete. * Items like pork belly were served cold, and some stations had missing dishes, which was disappointing for a buffet of this caliber. 3. Birthday Presentation Mismanagement * Around 1:30-2 PM, staff offered the customary birthday sing-and-dance for our three celebrators. We agreed, expecting it to happen promptly. * Instead, staff delayed, setting up equipment but never performing. This wasted our scheduled time for parlor games, forcing us to cancel the presentation altogether. 4. Food Restock Cut-Off * At 2:30 PM, staff informed us that food restocking would end at 2:45 PM. We acknowledged this and thanked the member who informed us. * At 2:40 PM, I settled the remaining balance and even gave a tip--something I regretted after what happened next. 5. The Blackout Incident * At 3:10 PM., the lights in our function room were "unintentionally" turned off. Not for a second, but for several minutes. One by one, we went outside. * Only our room was affected, creating chaos as family members scrambled to gather belongings using phone flashlights. * Adding insult to injury, my brother lost ₱500, during the blackout. 6. Poor Handling & Lack of Compensation * Some of the relatives confronted the staff and manager in the lobby. The staff member/cashier responsible admitted it was "unintentional". The manager kept on repeating the same explanation as the cashier's, who switched off the lights, but never offered even a single good resolution. It seemed to us that he offered the staff member as the bait. They apologized, but the apology felt insincere. * When asked about compensation, the manager and staff fell silent. No courtesy check was done before switching off the lights, and no concrete resolution was offered. Additionally, no proper channels are available for such incidents except for platforms such as their Facebook page, Google Reviews, and TripAdvisor. * We remained diplomatic and respectful, with no cussing, but the lack of accountability was unacceptable! This experience left our entire family frustrated, disrespected, and disappointed. What should have been a day of celebration was ruined by poor management, lack of professionalism, and negligence. We sincerely hope Buffet 101 Glorietta 2 takes this as a lesson to improve customer service, reservation handling, food quality, and staff accountability. Families come to your establishment to celebrate milestones--please ensure they leave with happy memories, not frustration. And as I told your staff members that day: "If you were in our shoes, having fun and celebrating with your family members, how would you feel if the lights were suddenly turned off without warning? How would that make you feel?"

Escolta at The Peninsula Manila: Buffet Review by Tina…read more I recently tried Escolta, the buffet restaurant inside The Peninsula Manila. It's positioned as a Filipino buffet, but the selection felt more international with random touches. What's on the buffet: * Filipino dishes: mahi-mahi, grilled seafood, classic viands * Japanese corner: sushi, maki, katsudon * Grill station: you can ask them to grill seafood or meat * Carving station: they serve lamb and other roasts * Desserts: wide selection of native delicacies like maja blanca, plus sorbets and ice cream (even soba ice cream) * Bread and cheese are also available, but nothing stood out Price: * I couldn't confirm the exact buffet rate, but it's somewhere around ₱3,500-₱4,500 per head. You can check their current rates online or via the hotel concierge. Ambience and service: * Elegant hotel setting as expected * Staff are very attentive and polite * Quiet, well-maintained dining space, not too crowded when I went My verdict: * The variety felt a bit confused. It says Filipino buffet, but the highlight was the Japanese and grill stations * Food was decent, but not something I'd personally pay over ₱4,000 for * Would I go back? Only if I'm treated or attending a special occasion * For the price, there are better buffet experiences in Manila (Circles in Shang mkt , The Alley at Conrad, or even Nobu brunch)

Space is very cramped (reminded me of a Chinese restaurant). Then there's the buffet spread which can be a bit confusing (reminded me of Spirals). The drinks and Italian section is even in a separate section (or room)! Food, it wasn't worth the 4K I paid for. Selection is there, but nothing stands out. Siewmai is the only bright spot I found but there's no way I can eat 4,000 worth of siewmai. Indian food was ok, flavour was on the milder side, but its not bad. Other than the siewmai and Indian food, only bright spot I can remember was their pizza. It was freshly made and nothing beats pizza that's freshly cooked. Compared to other hotel buffets... the service here is really (really) very good. I was honestly not happy with the food, the place and the parking situation, but their waiters and servers were really good and pleasing. I think this place is just not for me, but if someone is inviting you here and its free, then you should give it a try.

If I remember correctly, we ate there twice both days 2/16 & 2/17 and it was wonderful. We loved the first time we had breakfast there and came back the next morning before we had to fly out to Boracay. I've been to a lot of breakfast buffets in the US and both the food quality and service from the employees working here can't even compare. Kate (Katie?) and Mono were on top of everything and seem to know right away if we needed any assistance of any question. I merely stood by the egg station for a few seconds waiting to be helped and Mono saw me, walked over right away and got someone to help me from over the counter so I wouldn't have to wait long. Lots of warm smiles and the employees working during the times we dined. They seem to have the genuine drive and initiative to make sure every guest is taken care of and antennas are raised to help guests at a moments notice. Food quality was also high for a buffet. With some vegetables sourced from Baguio, several selections of freshly juiced fruits/vegetables and quality sourced ingredients from all over Philippines. It was not your usual breakfast buffet spread. I would not hesitate to dine there again for breakfast and would want to try their lunch/dinner buffet if the experience will still be the same. Clean, 5-star service and food quality, it's def one of my top picks for breakfast.
