Circles Event Café -- a buffet experience that spoiled me (in the best way) I had a true five-star experience at Circles Event Café inside the Makati Shangri-La, and I don't say that lightly. The experience was so consistently excellent that I ate here five days in a row--something I've never done at any other restaurant. Dinner was outstanding. I tried a wide variety of sushi (fresh, well-balanced, and properly chilled), carved beef roast that was tender and flavorful, and tandoori fish and chicken that were perfectly spiced--aromatic, moist, and clearly handled by cooks who know what they're doing. This wasn't "buffet good"; it was legitimately good food that just happened to be part of a buffet. The dessert and fruit options were just as impressive. The gelato was smooth and rich, and the dragon fruit was so fresh and abundant that I kept going back for more--clean, bright, and refreshing after a heavy plate. Breakfast deserves its own mention. I ate a mountain of crispy bacon paired with an equal amount of perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs, plus potatoes. Everything was hot, replenished constantly, and cooked exactly how you'd want it--simple food executed flawlessly. What truly sets Circles apart, though, is the service. This is hands-down the best customer service I've ever experienced at a buffet. The staff are attentive without hovering, genuinely warm, and incredibly efficient. Plates disappear quickly, drinks are refilled without asking, and every interaction feels polished yet sincere. The ambience matches the food and service--elegant, calm, and upscale without feeling stuffy. It's the kind of place where you can relax and enjoy the experience, whether you're there for a long dinner or starting your day with breakfast. Me: "we're gonna eat at Circles?!" BFF: "Right. Aren't you fancy?" Why did he think that? my BFF doesn't know me anymore. All I know is, he snagged the check last time so I'm pretty sure he's gonna try to pay for this lunch too. But, I was faster than him! HOLY CRAP. It's literally $35 USD per person. I should've let him pay :( Alright, the truth: for that price point, this place brought their A game. Extremely FRESSSSH seafood (my prawns had a wonderful snap to it), the sushi station is genuinely good and you can indulge in Indian, Chinese, Filipino cuisines, etc. Of course, my efficient/how can I get my money's worth Asian genes kicked in. I mostly stuck to the seafood and indulged in their MMMeaty prime rib and melt in your mouth beef bourguignon. I tasted one of their pretty desserts but should've really saved room for their ice cream sandwiches. Why did he tell me after the fact that they make their own ice cream in house? #fail With a location at Makati Shangri La, this is fanciest AF as you can get. Had a vacation in Manila and always my goto restaurant is Circle's at the Makati Shangri-la. The buffet is to die for. The abundance of every kind of different food is succulent. They did not have the Yorkshire pudding this time for the roast beef. But all the entrees were displayed well. I actually went for the cold section of fresh seafood on hand. The waiters and waitresses were very attentive and made themselves available and were very helpful as always. I recommend their LUNCH buffets. The only thing hot coffee, hot tea, and water is included all other drinks were charged even the fresh juices were separate. read more

We went to Circles Events Cafe tonight (12.17.20) to celebrate my 50th birthday with friends. Our reservation was at 7pm. We arrived 7:20pm and was ushered to our table. But the disappointment began when we started getting our food. The place is open for dinner from 5:30pm to 10pm. It's just halfway to their service, everything was already not looking good. Food was so limited. When you ask the servers (I dare not call them chefs because how the acted is an insult to their profession) they will say there is no more to serve. First bad experience was with the cheese section. I asked is there was still blue cheese. She said, there was no more. When my friend asked her again, she tried to look for blue cheese. When she came back, she had a few slices and said that's the last of it. Hello? What kind of hotel is this? The last time I checked I am at Shangri-la Makati! Second bad experience was with the bread. Imagine being told, sir that's the last of it and I've given it all to you. Third bad experience was on the meat carving section. My guest was being given the part of the roasted meat that he didn't like. You know that part where when you chew it, it's a bit tough because of the ligaments. He was told that they have to finish that batch before they bring out a new one. My friend had to threaten him that he will call for the head chef if he will not give him a better cut of meat. Fourth bad experience was in the Japanese section. My guest asked for salmon Sashimi. The pseudo chef said there was no more. After we complained, behold the Sashimi arrived! What kind of service are they doing? Fifth bad experience was in the Chinese section. I jolly asked what was being served. The server said the only available were chicken siomai and Peking duck wrap. I asked if they will not replenish and he said no more. That's the time I lost my temper! I said it's only 8pm and your not replenishing? I turned my back and went away disappointed! I lost appetite that I did not check the rest of their food! This was a very disappointing experience eating at Circles Events Cafe! Comparing with The Heat at EDSA Shangri-la, Circles doesn't come close! I will never come back here and I will never ever recommend eating here. read more

AMBIENCE We had a relaxing family lunch and it was pretty roomy where we sat and when getting food. I noticed there were some tables, like ours, that felt a bit more private and peaceful. FOOD I'll do jots. Bread Pudding tasted like leche flan. Ice-cream flavors I liked were strawberry, matcha and definitely raspberry sorbet (most flavorful). Cookie was chunky. All cakes tried were interesting. One was milky and another had mango with mild sweetness. U.S. Striploin was cut into perfectly thin slices, service medium rare unless you request otherwise. Peppercorn sauce was a great partner! All Indian dishes were excellent, new to me, and very much worth the excitement since they're not common in my books. Mildy spicy. Breathing space! Cocktail shrimps and mussels were excellent with cocktail sauce, nice and cold, picked right off the ice they were mounted on. Tempura had thin batter, making me feel less guilty. Assorted Maki was on display but you CAN request for sashimi and they'll give you a plateful if you want. I had two salmon sashimi plates and felt really, really good! Smelled good, tasted even better! SERVICE Water refills were served fairly quickly and it's nice to know certain food can be delivered to your table. It's convenient and classy but we got 'em ourselves because the walking helped us have breaks. read more

I've eaten here during my stay at shangri-la 3 times now. The buffet has a wide selection of food. From sushi to American to middle Easter and Filipino dishes. They have make your own pasta stations and a rotisserie station as well. They even have dimsum. The food is pretty good. They have a seafood section as well. No crab legs but they have shrimps, prawns, mussels and clams. You can even request to have them grill the shrimp/prawns if you like. The sushi is fresh. Although they only have a limited selection of sushi, it still is good. The prime rib is my favorite so far. You can have them grill it more as well if you like it more on the well done side. The dessert station is pretty big. They have a halo halo station that isn't bad. Drinks are not included in the price. The buffet is on the pricey side around 2100 pesos (around $45 USD). You can order drinks as an additional charge. I believe they have an endless glass for iced teas for 125 pesos. I wish the drinks were included for like sodas and iced teas and coffees. However, if you are willing to shell out the cash and are in the makati area, try this buffet out. read more

It's safe to say that Circles is my all time favorite buffet in the Philippines! Circles serves food with awesome quality, and also have servers who are extremely pleasant and attentive! Circles has just the right amount of options of food to choose from. I usually enjoy going to Circles for breakfast because I am crazy about breakfast food. I get their Eggs florentine or egg benedict, with bacon, fruits, yogurt, smoked salmon, potatoes, etc! I also make sure to to go to the Japanese section which has a really good selection of makis and sushi! Their desserts, fruits, and pastries selection are also very good! Circles has great ambience, its glass windows open to a fountain and garden that make dining really sumptuous and relaxing, wait staff are very solicitous and accommodating. Food choices are just fine, not something you can compare to well established buffets and for 30$ pax, you tend to have that expectation. FANTASTIC! My wife and I loved the breakfast buffet. The variety and quality of food was unreal. There are so many options it can be a bit overwhelming but the staff is very helpful and accommodating. Normally when going to a buffet, you sacrifice quality for quantity. That is not the case here. There was not one thing I tried that wasn't good. They even have a fresh made juice selection that is very good. The price is reasonable and the ambiance was very welcoming. It was a visit to Circles way back in 4th grade that sparked my passion for hotel buffets. I was in awe at how so much good food could exist under one roof, I knew this would definitely be the blueprint of my own version of heaven. I've gone back as much as I could ever since. Circles will continue to be one of my favorite buffets because its size is perfect; you have tons of food to choose from without it being overwhelming. It is typical for buffets to scrimp on the quality of the food because of the bulk, but of course this is never ever the case with circles. I like seeing the chefs handle their food, and how despite the air of importance they carry, they're always happy to answer my curios questions while I practice Tetris battle with the food I dump on my plate. read more

A friend of mine was celebrating her birthday and brought me and four more friends to Circles at Makati Shangri La to celebrate. As usual, I started with a plate of sashimi and sushi, which I thoroughly enjoyed. They had a decent selection of good quality sashimi and sushi, I literally had to restrain myself from filling my small plate and getting full on the Japanese station alone. Following the sushi and sashimi, I had a cup of the do-it-yourself miso soup and a selection of cheese with dried figs and crackers. I especially like the pepato hard cheese from the selection. After which, it was time for hakaw and roast duck. Their hakaw is really filled with shrimp, none of those fillings that would make anyone feel deceived. The roast duck was juicy and the skin was so crunchy! I would really have gotten more if only I didn't have to leave a bit more space for dessert. What I liked most was their vanilla ice cream, which tasted heavenly, I had to go for seconds. I also tried a few desserts from the themed food station. At the time we went, they were featuring locally sourced food which were mostly organic, like tuna from General Santos, a selection of cheese from Malagos Farms Davao, desserts using pili from Bicol, and other appetizing seafood and desert from all over the country. In my tenure as an editor for a local food glossy mag, I've tried a handful of hotel buffets around the metro. Out of all of them, Circles has always been the most consistent. Located at the ground floor of the Makati Shangri-La, Circles has always had the best quality (not quantity) of buffet choices. When I go to a buffet, it's not the quantity of choices that wows me - in fact, too many choices can give me option paralysis! Circles has different buffet themes per day of the week, and whenever there is a visiting chef, they allow the chef to get creative with the buffet spread. I remember a particularly memorable day when the theme was Indian and Arabian food, all done exceptionally well! Themes aside, I enjoy their selection of sashimi and of course the charcuterie - but that is par for the course with every hotel buffet. I just really like how the place doesn't look like those buffets that are cramped and cluttered with so much things going on at the same time. This one is designed really well.
