2nd to last night out during the trip and I was with a few others - our initial choice had an hour+ wait time and we were starving so we decided to try out another location within the BGC. It was interesting because this was my 3rd year staying in the BGC and never knew this existed nor was I prepared for it being a buffet. The place itself was large and full of seats scattered within the building. After being seated, there was a plethora of different types of food available. Japanese, Filipino, American, Chinese, Italian, coffee + deserts, etc. There was also a sort of bar/beverage area where you can have certain types of beer free of charge (wine/certain beers were charged extra.) I am knocking it down a star only because of the taste of food (consistency) amongst the booths that I chose. Some were okay, some were great. But that is to be expected in this style of buffet. A good place to celebrate a birthday with friends and family as the birthday person eats free! Unlimited beer, wine, and cocktails! And of course a wide variety of local Filipino cuisine to try plus Japanese and Italian. It's a buffet so don't expect table service but the staff is responsive and helpful when guiding a big group to what they need or having trouble choosing a selection. Overall a good value if you want to be at the central of the city and have plenty of food to eat. Casual so you don't have to dress up but do avoid being in flip flops, I know it seems common sense but we've seen tourists trying to get in and sadly turned away for service so don't make that mistake. The 3 star reviews are correct. If you want a better experience you will need to look for another place. I will give another 1/2 star since it includes alcoholic beverages and a better than average view. But if you are like me and are wanting a quality dining experience consider a 5 star hotel's buffet you will be more satisfied. Extremely agitated about the staff here. At reception there's a sign advising those with allergies to advise staff before grabbing food. At every point that I asked a staff member if an entree or dessert contained my allergens (nuts, seafood, coconuts), they said yes and then i overheard them ask someone else. For desserts, the pastry chef asked "you have your medicine right?" It's not that simple and I'm insulted. I could DIE from my allergies- it's not some mild allergy I can take benadryl for. I carry epipens because I COULD DIE, EDUCATE YOUR STAFF. Also, you have tongs being used on multiple dishes meaning you're cross-contaminating food. I hate it here. read more

But now, I may say that Cabalen buffet is better than yours for only P394. It was such a waste of money to eat here at Niu by Vikings go P1500++. It was like a scam. Here are a few things out of the many disappointments: 1) No red wine. White wine was warm, not chilled. When I asked for chilled white wine, they looked at each other as if I don't know what I was talking about. San Miguel beer was unavailable as well. 2) it was only 7pm and 90% of the food were almost empty. Food were not fresh, choices were very limited and quality was very poor. 3) Staff were rude and sarcastic. I know they were short staffed but that's not an excuse and very unacceptable. After so many years I came back today to celebrate 2 events, my husband's birthday and Mother's Day. To my surprise the place looks so ordinary and very chaotic. People are so loud can't barely hear the music on the background. Very disappointing because we thought it's the same classy place to dine in with your family and friends. I would've given this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the following: 1. I made reservations for 15 people. When I got there, there were only 13 seats AND the tables were separated. I was NOT informed that my party will be split into 2 tables. 2. The chairs were not made for a buffet; but rather for a sit-in style. The chairs were bulky and hard to move around. Yes, they look nice, stylish and modern, but they were big and an inconvenience for a buffet. 3. It was hot inside.... not sure if their A/C was broken or their air conditioner cannot handle the amount of people inside the restaurant. ----------------------------- In any case, the food was phenomenal - not only was there an abundance, but the quality was unmatched. I'm giving it a 3 because of the pic I took. Don't get me wrong. The food is top notch for an AYCE buffet. There are great flavored dishes from all over that the cooks excel at, but this is why i am giving a 3. A child threw up on the way to the bathroom leaving a long trail that obstructed traffic. It took service more than five minutes to clean up the vomit trail. So I'm sitting there, eating, while this puddle of puke sits there. I'm not a person who gets grossed out easily, but for the safety and sanitation for other patrons, I think five plus minutes was excessive to clean up THAT type of mess. I still recommend Niu. At times the weight can be a little bit long depending on whether you come here on peak hours or off hours. Vikings is arguably the most popular buffet chain in the Philippines and for good reason. Starting at P700 (almost $15 USD), you have a solid selection of diverse food at your unlimited disposal. HOWEVER, NIU IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL. Everything from the food to the desserts to the service to the decor is just of the highest quality. The diversity of foods offered are just prepared and served with such presentation. Without any exaggeration, the food is displayed magnificently. Quality desserts such as gelato and macarons are offered. There is also unlimited beer and wine, as well, in addition to the unlimited juices that Vikings also carries (try the Cucumber Melon and Wintermelon juices and thank me later). If you're going to spend ANY special occasion anywhere, it should be here. Aside from the visually stunning and high end decor, the service is impeccable. You can tell customer service is of utmost importance. May I also say that I ate here on the actual day of my birthday with my mother and my meal was FREE. We only had to pay for her meal, which was P1300. Although it's an actual birthday promo, eating that well for free felt illegal. I could not believe how much food selection there is here at Niu, Actually, its immense selection is comparable to top tier (yup, there I said it) Lav Vegas buffets. I am thinking Wicked Spoon @ Cosmo, The Buffet @ Belagio, and other similar buffets. I have forgotten the names, but I loved their Japanese pork belly bbq skewers and Lechon belly. Their prime rib isn't bad as well. There dessert selection is also immense and delicious as well. White chocolate fountain, um yeah! I haven't seen that before I do immensely love anything white chocolate. The decor, settings, and ambiance are very good as well. Oh and when you ask to grill something, they will bring it to your table when it is done, no more waiting. Overall, I would rate Niu a solid 4 stars. So why five? Two words: FREE ALCOHOL Yup, free local beer on tap. Free one-buck-Chuck equivalent wine. Was super stoked to try this place out when I got to the Philippines. Honestly, it was a let down for me. I guess I just had high expectations. They had an impressive spread, but there was nothing that blew my tastebuds away. I liked their unlimited alcohol, esp the wine!! Filipinos can't have nice things. For the same reason that fast food joints don't put the soda machines accessible to the customers, Niu should not give Filipinos unrestricted access to the carving stations. Next time you visit Nui, proceed to the carving station where the ribeye roasts are cut. Notice that an oval shaped rib roast is now square shaped? That's because some of the clever patrons have the guys at the carving station cut off the entire prized deckle muscle (cap portion) of the rib roast, leaving behind only the eye (which is still good, but it's the principle of the thing). The carving station shouldn't allow cuts like this to be made, as it ruins the meat for the true connoisseurs of beef. We know what you did. Filipinos can't have nice things. In all seriousness, the buffet was better than I imagined and I was relatively pleased with the experience. Imagine this as a poor man's Spiral buffet, without the frills. Will I come back? I've been here thrice since they opened last 2014. Situated in BGC where my office is, this became our to-go office lunch place especially when we have something to celebrate for. The first time I went here, I wore a floral dress to match the interiors and ambience. The only time I regretted wearing that dress is when I realized I asked the server to give me a plate of sushi plate for myself. I love how Niu offers a big variety of food selections. Since I've been here thrice, I go directly to food stations like: the sushi bar, the Chinese food station, drinks, the steak (twice) and the desserts place especially the gelato. When I was invited to have dinner in Niu, I made sure to starve myself for the day. Right after office hours, I did a 15-minute workout just to get my appetite up, and then got ready for the feast that was about to come. Buffets generally do not impress me, since I prefer quality over quantity, but Niu's selection comes really close to serving both. I started the night off with cold cuts, and their selection of prosciutto, salami and chorizo are satisfactory for the palette. They have a bit of cheese also, but they really shine in their caviar section. After that, I went straight to the Japanese section to get some sashimi and maki. Their carving station needs to be mentioned, as they really cater to any craving you might have. Being an honest meat-lover, I tried everything - the lechon belly, the roast beef, the ribs, the turkey and the lamb - all of which just perfectly cooked and seasoned. You're also given a choice of sauce, and they even place suggestions on which sauce goes with a particular meat. As for dessert, they have a wide selection of cakes and pastries, which unfortunately I didn't get to. I went straight for the fondue (chocolate covered fruits are awesome!) and ice cream. There were a lot of flavors to choose from, but ended up with a three scoop combination of ube, cheese and chocolate cashew. After dessert, I felt like I could still have a plate or two, but decided against it since I was trying to be good on my tummy. And for your birthday they subtract the percentage of your age from the bill. For example, 30years old = 30% off. The atmosphere is really nice. I like the upscale design of the restaurant. One thing I don't like is that everything is so tight. They tried to fit a bunch of table in a small room, it can be a hassle to get from one end of the buffet the other. The food is pretty yummy. There's all types of food from various countries. My favorite is the Japanese, but they also have Korean, Filipino, American, Italian, Chinese, French. And many more. I love sushi and theirs is pretty decent. It's definitely a plus that you can keep going back for more. The pasta section is another highlight of this buffet because it's made to order. There are actually several dishes that are made to order and the waiters will bring it to your table hot and ready. Drinks are amazing. I love all their juices, like the winter melon and pandan. Yum.
