When I'm in need of a quick and affordable Filipino food fix, I scurry on over to RECIPES. There's nothing like the feeling of Filipino comfort food and I especially love the no-fuss basic menu of this place. Price points are not too heavy on your wallet and portions are good for sharing. They serve everything from simple fried appetizers, soups, noodles, vegetables, your all-around ulams (viands of fish, poultry, seafood, and beef), sidings, and even rice bowls! This is a place you can bet on for casual lunch or dinners with family, friends, or if you're looking for something cheap for date night (minus the romance). The ambiance of the place is a bit rowdy and loud like most Filipino households but like what I said, expect a no-fuss approach. Food comes quickly and if you're hungry, it goes pretty fast too! I crave simple and tasty Filipino dishes once in a while and this is a good place to satiate cravings. The Gising Gising is probably one of the tastiest I've tried in the Metro! It has the right consistency and flavor to top on a nice bowl of rice (I could probably eat this even on its own!). They serve it too with a chicken variation that is a good option if you're trying to cut back on the pork or just because you are planning to sample their sumptuous and devilishly tasty Lechon Kawali with Kangkong. Don't miss, of course, the all-time favorite General's Chicken! This delectable chicken and eggplant mixed with a special sweet and spicy sauce can be very addicting! Crispy Tilapia, Sinigang na Bangus soup, the Kare Kare (also available as a vegetarian option), and interestingly enough the Korean Beef Stew are all crowd-pleasers and belly fillers too! The only thing missing for me is that there's not really any option for desserts but I think with a little bit of the food coma goodness the appetizers and main dishes bring, I don't mind at all skipping dessert! read more
