I used to pass by Basil almost every day when I was still studying in Ateneo. Nowadays, I only see it almost every Sunday whenever I'm going to my aunt's house for family lunch. My family and I would often wonder what it was until finally went inside to try out their food.
We honestly didn't even know what kind of cuisine they served, we were just curious because there would always be so many cars parked outside on Sundays for lunch and even dinner. We only found out that they served Thai food when we first entered.
I am a big fan of Thai food (okay, I'm a big fan of almost all kinds of food), so I can be a little bit judge-y when it comes to the quality and taste of this cuisine.
First, the menu. I wanted to make sure that they had everything I would usually order. Let's break it down.
Papaya Salad, check. Perfectly seasoned and good combination of ingredients. Tastes pretty authentic.
Thai Crispy Fish with Mango Salad, check. This is my absolute favorite Thai dish and I've tasted a lot of bad ones. The one in Basil though is perfect! Correctly cooked fish plus not so sour mango for the salad.
Tom Yum, check. I mean, what is a Thai restaurant without Tom Yum? You can choose the spiciness of the soup. Choosing the most spicy will leave you sweaty but happy.
Chicken Green Curry, check. Magnificent and perfect for your taste buds to do a little dance.
Sticky Rice with Mango, check. Not very authentic tasting, but it will leave you happy.
So basically, I rate Basil a perfect 5/5. read more
