It was so good with it's contrasting tastes and textures so well balanced that five years after, I still remembered her name and the information she gave me as to where I can find her. It was on a sourcing trip to Divisoria that I knew I had to make my way to 168 mall to have a dose of Chariya again. Since then, I have been religiously getting lunch from her store. My favorites would be the crispy catfish salad, her phad Thai, and her Thai milk tea. Very basic, yes. Reasonably priced, yes. Very good taste, YES. During my last visit, because I knew it might take me a while before being able to go back, I bought a pack of the loose tea hey use to make milk tea.

Through my further research, I found out that Chariya (owner of the place) is really Thai! That's why nothing that I ordered disappointed me. My Thai Tea was excellent! It's really refreshing to drink after 5 hours of shopping in the mall. The Satay and the Pad Thai were good deals also. Price wise, it's quite affordable. You know you're going to get really good dishes when you order from Chariya. I'm so glad she expanded and now she's open to getting bulk orders. So for those of you who need food for a party, you know who to call!

It's in the Block section of SM City North Edsa, but it does have waiter service and tables. Jatujak's menu seems to be more of Filipino Thai fusion than authentic Thai. The MetroDeal had to be used all at once, so we ended up getting a lot of items on the menu. We got the steamed lapu lapu, crispy pata in red curry, crispy noodles, fried snapper, pad thai, pork spring rolls, glass noodle salad, papaya salad, tofu salad, and catfish salad. I can't say that most of these are straight Thai. They were all pretty good, but most of them were much sweeter than I would have liked, especially the pad thai. I would say that the pad thai was bad. The pork spring rolls were definitely just extra large lumpia shanghai. But i did enjoy the Crispy Pata in Red Curry. The crispy pata was cooked well and the red curry had a touch of heat. Jatujak stood no match for anything in Thailand, but I wouldn't be opposed to eating here.

I really find it weird that there are so few Thai restaurants in Manila. Given how much other…read morecuisines are represented, you'd think that Thai food would be more commonplace. It's sad, really, as I love the interplay of flavors associated with it. One of the bastions of hope in serving up decent Thai food in the Metro is Jatujak. They've been in business for a couple of years already and thankfully haven't shut down their doors. Throughout the years, even at different branches, Jatujak has been consistent in delivering the goods. I usually order the red curry beef. It could be a tad spicier but I guess it is tuned more for the local palate. The chicken pandan is also good, although I find them to be a wee bit small. The pad thai noodles are always cooked al dente and they don't scrimp on the toppings, which is always a good sign.

We ordered Chicken Pandan, Pad Thai, Fish Fillet in Black Pepper Sauce and also the Fried Spring Rolls. Initial tasting was very good. I thought the food was very flavorful. I thought they used a lot of spices but a few hours after I ate there, I got the worst headache ever and I started to feel really thirsty. The food was laden with MSG. If you're not very sensitive to MSG, I think you'll find this place to be very enjoyable. Unfortunately for me, the hunt goes on.

And so we googled for the nearest Thai restaurant, which landed us at Soi Thai in Greenhills Promenade. The interior was a bit crowded to my liking; I rather prefer airy, open spaces when eating. That aside though, we looked at the menu and saw plenty that we liked. There was pad thai, of course. And chicken satay. Then we decided to splurge with some red curry fish and an order for spring rolls for the two picky kids who were with us. We were served some corn nuts while we waited for our orders to be served. After a short while, the food came and the servings were rather smaller than we had expected (given the price) but it was good. The pad thai was well-balanced, and the red curry fish was moist and flaky in its creamy sauce. The spring rolls were a surprise --- they were rather quite good, with the meat flavor being first and foremost. The chicken satay was not bad, but not that good either. One of these days, I might just come back for some more of that pad thai.

Restaurant I expected it to be warm since it's hole-in-the-wall but it's kinda breezy during the evening, making our stay relaxing. The dine-in space is limited with a few seats outside but they have a bar, high chairs and all. Morning Glory with Garlic This one is typical veggies. A bit hidden on P. Guanzon, the street directly facing the frontside of A.Venue Mall, this restaurant is widely known among the neighborhood, but could be easily located on an online map. Dining was an easy breezy as the dishes are described in the updated menu spread with photos of their best-selling items. We had their famous Mee Goreng, Beef Rendang, and Thai Iced Tea. Our food was served in less than 15 minutes, considered fast for table-service restaurants. Calling the attention of the service crew, asking for recommendations, and ordering were all easy. Most service crews were welcoming, though we encountered one who just grabbed the menu spread and the tissue rack off our table when we were still dining. We didn't mind, but it could have been much more courteous if she spoke with us and asked for permission, as we were still eating. Also, the music could have been much softer to preserve the relaxing vibe, because it was hard to hear my companions when we were chatting, to the point that we had to shout at each other. Their Mee Goreng was full of ingredients and a plate could serve up to two to three people--but less in seafood. I mean, what's a "spicy seafood noodles" without much spice and just a few pieces of seafood? It was flavorful and a bit on the sweet-spicy side, may be catering to Filipino tongues that are used to the sweet palette. Beef Rendang, their take on Malaysia's spicy beef curry, was an instant favorite. The meat in the dish generously spicy and soft that it tasted like it was braised slowly and carefully. With rice, the dish can only serve and would leave you wishing you'd have more. The Thai Iced Tea was the spice quencher, if it suddenly feels hot when eating both the Mee Goreng and the Beef Rendang. Crying Tiger is definitely a must-visit in the area if you crave for Southeast Asian dishes, but make sure to get a table before groups go in around dinnertime as it gets full with avid patrons.
