I learned from an old colleague that I haven't fully experienced Marikina without dining at Krung Thai.Tucked in a street along Marikina's public market is a little hub that offers an authentic taste of Thailand. I bet no one from the outside would think that this wooden door with glass panels has an array of Thai cuisine inside, except for the small signage that flashes their name. However, upon entering the restaurant, the golden hues of Thailand greets a visitor. A large golden buddha is situated upon the entrance. There are also smaller versions placed in different corners of the place. If this doesn't shout "Thailand" to you, then the colorful Asian lamps that seem handmade might do the trick. These hanging lamps in pink, blue, green, yellow and white comes in varying sizes but emits a warm glow, adding to the vibrant yet relaxing feel of the place. It's seems to be inviting you to meditate. Aside from these, there are mementos from Thailand that are for sale. In fact, even the lamps are for sale.
When I went to visit Krung Thai, I was craving for Pad Thai, which is stir-fried rice noodles topped with vegetables, bean sprouts, meat (may be chicken, pork or beef), spring onions, sugar, chili, and peanuts. What i enjoyed about Krung Thai's Pad Thai was that a huge serving was on my plate for a very reasonable price. Less than 200 pesos was enough to feed three people. Also, there was shrimp, and i control how much peanuts and sugar and special sauce I can add on to the Pad Thai. Since trying their Pad Thai, I've been making sure to go back to the place at least once every month to have a taste of the said dish. read more
