A small bakeshop/cafe in the middle of San Juan, Spiga is very close to the Old San Juan pier section of the cruise ports. My brother and I stopped in after 1 pm, which is well past the most popular time of the shop. The good news was that it meant there was some inside seating. The bad news was the selection of baked goods was almost all gone. We ended up picking up 2 Galletas Choco+Nueces (Chocolate walnut cookies for $4)...cakey, not crispy. Also a hot bun ($3.75) with beach almonds, which was the last one available. Pretty good. read more

It's hard to reiterate how absolutely stellar this place is, but I'll try. Although I tend to be more of an explorer than a repeater when it comes to vacation food, Spiga was too good to visit only once. We came back for coffee and pastries every morning. Though everything was delicious, the star for me is the Almond pastry. It is as pillowy soft as a cumulous cloud and perfectly sweet. One of these alone is basically worth the flight ticket. Really great, centrally located lunch spot for when you're exploring Old San Juan! I got their mozzarella and tomato sandwich and my husband got their bell peppers and Italian sausage linguini and both were delicious and filling. Coffee is excellent and service is friendly. I made sure to stop at this famous spot before leaving San Juan, and I'm so glad I did! It's a tiny space with limited seating, and people waiting in line stand pretty close to those who are eating--but it's all part of the charm. The smell inside is incredible, and the place is clearly popular with both locals and tourists. The waitress was so sweet and welcoming. We ordered from the chalkboard menu without realizing there are even more options available if you scan the QR code--wish I had tried the egg sandwich! That said, I was still really happy with everything we ordered. We had the guava butter and almond pastry, the quiche, and coffee. Everything was outstanding. I inhaled the cinnamon roll with orange zest with zero inhibition, and proceeded to stare at the rest during my entire meal in order to plot the next victim (opted for chocolate chip walnut cookies to go :). Service is super friendly. There's only a handful of tables inside, and two outside, but turnover is fairly quick, and the staff keeps track of who is waiting. We had two breakfast sandwiches - mine with homemade pesto, thin slices of ham and fried eggs, and my partner had the ham, brie and homemade fig jam with added eggs. The sourdough bread was perfectly toasted and delicious. Washed down with the really tasty mocha (made with ground chocolate that sinks to the bottom and gives you that last jolt of delight at the end of the cup), it was a perfect start to the day. I was a bit disappointed with the food. I ordered their orange cinnamon roll and didn't taste any orange. I was intrigued but the lame but it was a let down. Their sandwich (I think it's Brie) is really gross, don't order it. But the items my friends got looked great and they didn't complain. read more

I was met with friendliness at first and then the owner brought up real estate and it turned into a racial thing and how she actual hates Americans and I told her we are leaving and then she tried to ask my wife to not leave a bad review. I had to remove myself wife, and two kids from this place and her employees were horrified .... If you are an American don't talk business with the owner or anything to do with U.S. or Puerto rico. And if the owner sees this, you need to repent change your ways and you owe yourself an apology, your employees and those around you. I was wandering Old Town and stumbled across this tiny but cute place. I went inside and met Katia, the spunky and fun owner. She was taking orders and making drinks and so nice and personable, talking with her guests. She showed me how to get the digital QR code menu and the specials were written on the board. There was a lemon citrus cake that looked amazing, but I went with the sourdough strata special. Katia said they make the sourdough in house, as well as a fig jam. The sourdough starts was like a savory monkey bread. It had ham, cheese, onion and the homemade sourdough, and it came with a mixed green salad. It was DELICIOUS. I also tried her bottled locally sourced organic ginger beer. A great combo to start the morning. I wanted to buy her work shirt off of her, it's so cool, but she ran out of that specific design (she had others available. Katia was so nice, she offered to ship one to me. What a charming place !!!! Ollie the little mixed breed dog meets you and lives at the restaurant during service. We got the prosciutto caprese sandwich and it was awesome !! We sat at one of the outdoor two top tables, and it was just like a dream come true with the breeze, coming off the sea and being able to people watch. The interior of the restaurant itself is very cozy, but the food is spectacular and the just overall Field makes you fall in love with Puerto Rico all over again. read more

Walking in, Spiga has a quaint, comfortable coffee shop feel. The pastries looked amazing and the menu was laid out well, with a more extensive menu using the QR code. Everything was delicious! The cold brew came in a can and was smooth and tasty without cream. The almond pastry is a must and was so moist with delicious frosting. A little hole in the wall spot that deserves recognition. I wish I came earlier to have the breakfast sandwich but nonetheless what I ordered was still delicious. Everything is very affordable here and delicious. The coffee was probably the highlight of the dining experience, so creamy and frothy. We went here based off reviews. The place is very small & they seem to stay busy so it was crowded. I got a little discouraged just because I felt crammed but we found a corner table open so we stayed and we were glad we did. The guava pastries and chocolate almond cooked were delicious & so fresh. We ordered the salmon sandwich and the ham sandwich (can't remember the name) that were both delicious! You can tell they make the bread in-house because of how fresh it tasted. I have to give props to Our waitress because she was the only one there & was on top of her game. She acknowledged everyone & got to everyone as quick as she could. She was friendly and nice. Easily one of the better places we ate in OSJ. Great place to pop into for breakfast or lunch. Seating is limited. Just sit down and someone will come to take your order. This is a small shop, so you could always take this on the go. I highly recommend the guava brioche buns. I ordered the orange cinnamon to go for later. It held up well and was good too as snack. My husband and I ordered eggs with ham, tomatoes and goat cheese. We really liked the simplicity of the dish. My son loved his ham, eggs and mozzarella.
