This place is amazing. Found it on Happy Cow app, was walking distance from our hotel. Cool architecture inside and out, love the concept, menu was good but wish they had a few more vegan entrees. I had a golden latte which was delicious and the chai pancakes. My husband ordered scrambled eggs and my son had breakfast tacos. Portions were huge. We tried to order from a QR code but our credit card kept declining so we had to go up to the counter to order. They said the the clover app often doesn't work. Loved the decor in here. Highly recommend

This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. There's a beautiful sage green aesthetic, community art you can buy, and it's across from what appears to be a town square. But that's about all I can say before I start to get upset. You have to ring a doorbell to get in, which is super annoying to hear constant buzzing when you're trying to eat. There are community tables where anyone can sit, which is just not personally my thing. You have to get your own water and it is not automatically served to you (water is a MUST in the Puerto Rico heat). The menu is a QR code that keeps scrolling back up when I don't want it to. The smoothies we ordered - Chocolate Devotion, Pa'Pa'Passion, and Par-ch-aiso - are all very bland. Pumpkin pancakes were kind of dry. I did not try anything else as I had already had breakfast earlier and nothing sounded very appetizing. Great place for vegans, vegetarians, and other dietary restrictions, if you can figure out how to open the door first.

Best hidden coffee shop and co-working space in proper San Juan! It's like a cocktail lounge but for coffee. They experimented with different flavors and condiments for the coffee. The building was a church so it has high ceilings and airy. I love that they didn't need to blast the air conditioning but I felt cool inside. Music wasn't loud either so you could be having a meeting with no problem. The soup of the day was always delicious and came as a surprise. We went there on two different days and were always impressed with the soups. Great quesadillas as well. Service was fast as you ordered and paid with your phone. I felt like I need to gate-keep this place. Great coffee shop!

Items ordered: Iced cappuccino, pumpkin pancakes, banana loaf (to-go) Service: Very quick, kind staff Value: Prices are a little high for the area but very worth it The Review: Walking into La Isla was an experience all on its own. The historic charm hits upon entering the door. The airy main room is quite notable. It is also a coworking space, so members are present, working and having meetings. The food was excellent, with gluten free and vegan options galore. You don't often have the option of an iced cappuccino, which was SO good. Cannot say enough kind things about La Isla. Despite being a bit boujee, La Isla and its customers are actually very local rather than touristy. Highly recommend.

I wish I took more photos to capture how awesome this place was. One of my top vegan experiences in San Juan, if not my #1 favorite spot. It's technically a vegetarian restaurant, but the great majority of items are vegan. We ate at La Isla twice in one week, it was so good. My favorite item was the chickpea scramble. I was expecting some kind of "just egg" type situation made with chickpea flour. But it's even better: a scramble made with whole chickpeas with the most flavorful seasoning. Basically a chickpea curry shaped into a little brick and covered with incredible green cilantro sauce and pumpkin cream sauce. So innovative, healthy, and delicious. On our first visit, we got the chickpea scramble as part of the vegan Isla brunch sampler, which comes with avocado, toast, and a choice of French toast or pancakes. All delicious. When we returned, I asked the waiter if it was possible to get just a plate of the chickpea scramble, because I liked it so much. You basically have to get it as part of either the brunch sampler or on top of avocado toast, which is what we got on our second visit. Delicious. Their soup of the day (made with white beans and malanga) was also excellent. The lunch special, a beet burger, was incredible. Their drinks also deserve special mention. They have an incredible lineup of smoothies. The best one is a bright pink one made with beets (not always available). The chupacabra (made with espresso) and the papaya cinnamon one are also great. The "cold chocolate" (exactly what it sounds like) was also excellent. The ginger shots were great too. The ambience is great too - a huge sun-filled space with an open kitchen and an adjoining eco-friendly shop. They hold yoga classes in the restaurant a few evenings a week, to give you an idea of how relaxing and pleasant the space is.

This spot is down the street from Calle Cerra and love the ambiance. I can stay there for a few minutes to eat, and their store is attached for some healthy grains to take home.

Served to your table with a menu of a huge variety! The food is super affordable i would say cheap even like a few bucks with the option to pay for small extras for like a buck! Very optional menu. Its nice and busy but quickly served and you can order online. They have seperate areas for laptop work too if you bring one with you.

I love how simplistic the decor is in this restaurant and the cute shop within it. The menu has plenty of delicious choices for various dietary needs/preferences. The latte I ordered was perfect as was the guava mallorca and veggie scrambled breakfast. I will definitely be back soon!

Guava butter toast was amazing! The vibe was warm and comfortable, just perfect, and our waitress Santana was perfect too - super hospitable. The chickpea dish was delicious too. Clean, and YUMMY food. I'll be going back here before I leave for NY.

So fun to eat delicious food in a cool traditional room. Coffee menu to die for (melted honey with espresso!?). Daily lunch specials. We loved the yogurt made from coconut.

First off, Yelp and the Gustos' website say that it is closed on Saturdays, but Google Maps said it…read morewas open. We called and thankfully it was open. Not sure if this was because they were closed yesterday for Good Friday, but consider calling if going on a Saturday! The place was busy, but they were fully staffed and service was fast and our drinks/food came out quickly. A live band played outside, but it was acoustic and the volume was very reasonable. I wanted to buy locally roasted coffee beans for home and this turned out to be the best place to buy them. I bought two 8oz bags, $14 and $15 respectively. Compare that to 787 Coffee that wanted $30 for a similar sized bag (even more for their alcohol infused beans!). Gustos also sold 2lb bags of beans if you really need to make a lot of coffee. Sadly, the roasting date was not stamped on any of the bags. The cold brew coffee was good. The French toast was mediocre -- the bread was sliced too thin, with very little batter on the exterior, and zero saturation inside the bread. The fresh blueberries and grated coconut were nice, but the syrup tasted cheap. My wife had the Gustos and it was delicious. We saw others with avocado toast and it looked tasty too. We bought little bags of dried plantains on a whim at the counter -- turns out they were $3 each. Otherwise, prices were very reasonable.
