I like to support this shop along with all the other wonderfully unique stores in downtown Stockholm to keep the area thriving...especially since they don't get much traffic in colder months. It's always fun to browse The Palate's curated selection of wines from small, sustainable vineyards; beautiful French porcelain; freshly baked treats; and international pantry of gourmet pastas, oils, and seasonings. Even better, enjoy a charcuterie board with a glass of wine on the back porch, or sign up for a cooking classes with Judy Krohn. Everything in this store is top notch, but one of most unique products is the Laudable Linens from France, custom cut to your table's exact measurements. The cloth has a nano-treatment that prevents stains--it really works! I've been left tongue-tied having seen demonstrations in the shop where wine was intentionally spilled and left sitting on the cloth for a while, then wiped off completely like it was never there. An elastic edge can also be added to keep your tablecloth in place, which is especially handy for outdoor tables. If you're driving through Stockholm, Wisconsin, you simply must visit The Palate for snacks and wine before continuing your adventures along the "Great River Road"--resistance is futile!! We stopped in here after nearby workout class. I started with a creme brulee croissant and wish I had gotten second. I had a french omelet and the eggs were perfectly cooked and the cheese melted into each bite with the perfect amount of flavor. It looked like it may be hard to grab a seat, but there was plenty of turn over and we got a seat right away. The atmosphere was relaxing and filled with positive energy - people catching up, on a first date, or even reading. I am excited to come back to try more pastries variations & grab a coffee.

Passing by the window I thought it was a long shot and almost passed right by. I doubled back when I saw the chalkboard said open seating at the bar. We lucked out and got a high top for two right away. Guess what. They even have wings. Duck wings- something I didn't even know I wanted. Their small plates were perfect and we loved everything. The duck wings were a delicious mix of savory and sweet - dark moist meat like a turkey leg but sauced with a sweet orange glaze. The shrimp cocktail had the biggest shrimp I've seen in my life. The Brandade Fritters had a nice crispy texture and spicy sauce to take them the extra mile. The Trotter Croquette was also just so interesting - almost like a crab cake texture but so meaty and savory. We just couldn't stop so we had the chocolate mousse cake as well. It was to die for. It reminded me of my favorite Sebastian's Joe's ice cream - raspberry chocolate chip since it was paired with a raspberry sherbet. The Mousse was on this like crumbly stuff I that told my husband reminded me of that layer in à DQ cake (in the best way). Just all around perfect texture and flavor combos. I also really appreciated their NA cocktails. Most places do not do them well but I am happy to say that their Tonic 11 was very good. I can't wait to come back and try the other ones. Service and the ambiance were also very nice. They were so welcoming even though we just wandered in off the street at prime time on Valentine's Day. The interior is beautiful with high ceilings, romantic lightning and even intricately tiled bathrooms. They really paid attention to every detail and it shows.

They asked each of us why we'd were taking the class and genuinely tried to tailor the experience and instructions to meet as many people's requests and needs as possible which I greatly appreciated. They went above and beyond to make us feel special and took time to answer all of our food and kitchen related questions, even if it didn't relate to sushi. We have tried making sushi at home before but always felt like something was missing or we would struggle with certain aspects of the process. However, many of the people in the course had never made sushi before so this was a great class for beginners of all skill levels! Besides the sushi rice & tempura shrimp tails being pre made and some of the sauce ingredients being pre-portioned out, we made all of the other filling ingredients! We started by learning the best way to julienne a cucumber for sushi rolls & then how to slice up an avocado. Once that was done, we made a marinade for each of our fresh tuna steaks and were able to sear them to our liking! Once all of our ingredients were prepped, we rolled two different sushi rolls, one with shrimp & one with tuna and both were so tasty. What I truly loved was that everyone had their own ingredients to make their own two rolls. This allowed each of us to not only have an abundance of food at the end, but we also got to test our own skills out and learn from hands on experience. I can't wait to bring these new skills to life in my own kitchen. We also got a miso soup at the end which was amazing. This was money well spent and I'm looking forward to more classes in the future!

I went with Bret and a small group for my 50th birthday in September 2025 to Nice, France. It is still the most memorable trip of my life and for all the right reasons. We enjoyed laid back French breakfasts with the group. Amazing Nicoise style dinners. A tour of Nice. Picturesque drives to vineyards and nearby towns and of course each other's company. If you are a Francophile or budding Francophile (for the France tours) and have a deep curiosity for travel, culture, food and language then consider taking a culinary trip with Bret. It's more curated, he's thoughtful on who he finds to assist with local activities, the restaurant selection is fabulous, and the cost is less than a lot of companies out there. The bonus is that plenty of free so he does not focus on monopolizing your time for tours and restaurant visits. You get to actually explore the you're in or just relax in your hotel or Airbnb. if you were looking for something new to do for a trip, think about Bret next time.

If you're rather inexperienced like I am, and have no clue what meals to prepare or what dishes to present, you can ask Bret, and he'll come up with a menu. His private classes can range from teaching one special dish or dessert, to teaching you how to make a multi-course dinner. Let him know what you'd like to learn. If you're a beginner, also plan some time for learning cooking techniques and knife skills. What to expect: I booked Bret's Table for a small dinner party themed event, where the guests were invited to help in the preparation of the dishes that would be presented for dinner. Not knowing what to make for the dinner party, I asked Bret to help me come up with dishes to prepare. We came up with a 6 course dinner plan. If you already know what you'd like to learn, you can make that specific request instead. Through emailing, Bret provided me with recipes and the list of ingredients I needed. Because I was a nervous wreck hosting my first ever Dinner Party at my home, Bret was kind enough to show up early to help me get acquainted with some of my kitchenware before the guests arrived. He showed up nicely dressed with his white Chef shirt, apron, and twirly mustache! We designated areas in my kitchen as stations to prepare each different part of the dinner. Starting with appetizers all the way through dessert. Bret was very attentive and helped give directions to each guest. Everyone had a great time learning and cooking together. It's a great way to build friendships! And during the down time, the people who worked on the less demanding dishes drank wine. The dinner itself was amazing! The food tasted great, the company was great, and by the end of the night, we went through 10 bottles of wine. Not bad for an eight person dinner lol! Ok, ok, maybe a bottle was used in the cooking. I highly recommend hiring Bret from Bret's Table. He's very professional and friendly, and did I mention the cool mustache?!! And it speaks for his reputation for the fact that my dinner guests immediately hired him for their own dinner party after meeting him for the first time. It will be a fun experience for all, especially if you are cooking with friends! Also, how amazing is it that you get to work with the chef in your own home? Great fun! Highly recommended!

The demo was very helpful before we broke in to groups and tried it out for ourselves. Due to this class' popularity - the group sizes were a bit larger (we had 5). Although we all found tasks to divvy up, we did feel bad that most didn't get to really try out all the steps of making this high-maintenance cookie to really get hands-on experience. Becki, our instructor & AK owner, was very interactive and helpful throughout the whole class. She provided good tips and tricks & created a fun environment, encouraging & fostering great group interaction. During the baking time we took a brief "shopping break" to explore the store. Becki has so many practical, high-quality cooking items it is a great store. You could find absolutely anything you could possibly need in your kitchen! Back to class, Becki had prepped the buttercream for us to fill the cookies. She went over different combinations we could try with jelly fillings & then we got to try our hand at filling. We only wished we had remembered to ask a few questions about making the buttercream, since we didn't get to mix this up during the baking phase & gain hands-on experience. We are always so impressed with the variety of classes Becki offers, her passion for cooking, & we loved the great environment she fostered during the class. The members of the class were from all over the metro, proving it really is worth "the drive" to Buffalo if this is not a close location for you. AK's Facebook page and website are updated frequently to keep you in-the-know on all upcoming events. Time flies by during class! But you leave with a good experience, tactical skills, a recipe card, and for this class we each took home ~10 macarons. Bon appetit!

I attended a demo course which was advertised as such (although we were promised that "every student will get a chance to volunteer in front of the class for a portion of the recipe," which--maybe thankfully if you've tried my cooking--didn't really happen), and while I had a decent enough time, there were moments that felt off. At one point, I asked if I could take an extra baked good for a friend who wasn't able to join me, and I was chastised harshly, like I was a naughty child. Okay, no worries, but really? Was there no other way that could have been expressed? "Sorry, we sell the extras" or "we like to donate the leftovers to the poor." Nope, it was "you may have ONE!" Wow. So much for abundance? Still, kinks aside, I suspect this will be nice addition to a small downtown that seems to be attempting to revitalize itself. (Although I fear that, in expressing my opinion, I will once again incur wrath.)

There was a small sign that is viewable if you are standing or driving very nearby and look carefully. Once you enter the place, you'll see there is a stage on the far side, a small bar area, and then for this morning's brunch buffet a buffet table series was presented. The atmosphere was somewhat unfinished but had a good start. The walls are nicely colored at the top and the tables are nicely done but clash with the paper napkins and the slightly spotted silverware. The food was again a mix of very nice such as the second round of bacon (the first round was far too fatty and not crispy), the pineapple, the onion potato hash (I think its a hash, but it certainly didn't seem to have any beef in it). This, why don't we say, "not so hash" hash was by far our favorite item. The french toast, which you will have to wait for, was too eggy for our tastes, and the pancakes and waffles were slow to serve and just okay. The orange juice was good and was self service which is nice, but there were no cups when we went to the table the first time. While we were eating there was a small three person jazz band that was setting up and did eventually play a couple songs. This was a nice touch, but I think lack of coordinated attire, the bags on the stage, and the delay to starting didn't accent what is really the most unique feature of the experience. If done right the band and the food together could be worth the price and be worth talking about in Rochester, but right now its almost like a high school fundraiser with a few higher end flares. Finally, the whole thing is priced at $15.00 which is fine if you end up wanting all the foods offered but if you are going to only eat certain items and if the band isn't ready to play right away its noticeably over priced. This is roughly how much the buffet at Pescara ($17) is which is accompanied by a broader array of high end foods, valet parking, and frequent and attentive customer service with not just a nice table spread but also cloth napkins. The Green Mill has a big brunch buffet spread which is priced actually cheaper at $13 most weekends and slightly higher for holidays. All in all, the price is disproportionately high. In summary, this place is a mix of too many different styles to make sense for the price. If committed to a high end brunch experience a few simple things could transform this to that level and be worthy of the price, else it should be priced lower and it would also be a great experience. In the end, it is unlikely we will come back here without some new information to suggest it has improved.
