Or maybe, with its dim interior and quick service it's a place they can dine undercover (well, except for that window sign...). This place has apparently been here for a long while and from the outside, it looks it. But once inside you'll find white tablecloths, an aquarium, and professionally dressed servers. Something feels a little off and funky (it feels like the sort of Indian restaurant I found in London back in the 1970's) but I can't really say it showed in the food. The food was solid and satisfying and the menu quite extensive. If I can give only one piece of advice it's this: there's a fixed price menu item that might cost a little more than you were hoping to spend but it delivers to your table a large array of food that looks quite good. I should know as I watched a nearby table turn a couple times and each time someone new sat there they ordered as I suggest. I didn't but wished I had. I found other places in town (non-Indian) that I liked better but that's not to say Golden Curry didn't hit the spot. It did. If it's maybe good enough for Harry and Meghan it's good enough for me.

Chunks of chicken tenders, lightly battered and fried and then tossed in a dark sauce with bright, fresh flavors. A bit sweet with savory. You could even taste bits of fresh ginger along with the fresh chilies. Very tasty! Chicken 65 was similar only by the chunks of chicken battered and fried. Then it was tossed in a yoghurt based sauce with robust slices, chilies and fresh curry leaves. The Apollo fish was nearly identical to the Chicken 65 but with Cod fish chunks. The flavors were so good I didn't mind the repeat!! The Masala lamb chops were marinated with great flavor and then grilled to perfection. A slight char on the outside but tender and packed with flavor. I also ordered a garlic naan and tandoori roti and thankfully they were freshly prepared in a tandoor oven and not packaged like some Indian take out places in the UK. I'm eager to return and try out some other menu items. The dining room is minimal with 3 -4tops, 2-2tops and a 6top. They take Credit Cards and they have take out ordering on their website. Dishes included one of the chef's recommendations Murgh Shagorana, whole piece of chicken breast garnished with boiled egg and minced meat. The meal was very good if not the best variety of flavours. A nice touch was a complimentary drink offered at the end of the meal. A feature of the Saffron are a number of TVs mounted on walls above the tables playing Bollywood films with the sound off. What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).
