Friend took us here at about 2 on a Saturday, it's a small sparse shop that keeps things simple and really fast. We all tried a few different menu items and everything was great- we did leave pretty quick as they close at 2:30pm that day. The chai and the Mango Lassi weren't very popular with our crew but the food items were definitely worth it! Spice Waala is great for a quick Desi bite. While it's not the most authentic tasting chaat (my expectations may be too high), it gets pretty close. Amazing food at amazing prices!! Absolutely love their Kathi rolls. My favorite is the lamb kathi roll. Make sure you get it "Calcutta style" with egg. Other favorites include: The Chana Chaat and the Aloo Tikki Chaat. Note: for some odd reason, the Chana Chaat does not show up as an option in apps like door dash or grub hub, but you can call n order. I've reviewed their first location on Capitol Hill but have been coming more to Ballard recently. It's a bright, unassuming cafe with great service and outstanding food. I usually get the chicken kathi roll, the chai and either the chana chaat or the aloo tikki chat. The food is just so darn good and flavorful. They don't try and do everything, but have picked a few items that are really outstanding. Spice Waala is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. My fiancé and I placed an order on their website for dinner on Friday night. We ordered the lamb kathi roll, a chicken tikka roll, two orders of fries, extra chutneys, and mango lassis. We placed the order at about 6pm and we're quoted it would be ready by 7:30. That's a really long wait even for a Friday night but we were willing to give it a shot having read the great reviews. There were about 7-8 other people when we rolled up for our pickup, but we could clearly see all employees wearing masks and the restaurant itself is set up well for social distancing. The kathi rolls look small but had plenty of meat in each of them. Super delicious. I think we both preferred the brown chutney over the green one - the green was a little bitter for our tastebuds. I'd definitely order an extra brown chutney next time. Unfortunately, they only gave us one of the two orders of fries which we only realized once we arrived home with our orders. But tbh, the fries were just ok - not very crispy and really needs the brown chutney. I'm guessing they forgot the orders given how busy they've been. I'd recommend giving this place a try! After many many orders from spice waala the rolls are still delicious and consistent! I was super excited that they opened up in my neighborhood and they did not disappoint! The chicken roll with egg is my go to! I don't really like rolls without egg- so I would recommend everyone to add egg to the roll :) one recommendation I would have for spice waala is to have egg by default and then allow people to remove it! This is our go to Indian take out place in Seattle. The roll is perfect and reminds us of Kathi roll we used to get in India. Chai with Parle G is another reminder of home. Aloo wrap- So, so delicious. I was afraid it would become one note with so much potato, but instead it had this lovely soft inside and crispy exterior of each potato cube. Highly recommend! 5/5 Paneer wrap- This one didn't impress me, lovely seasoning but the paneer is scrambled to the point it semi reminded me of baby food. Also wasn't a fan of the large raw chunks of bell pepper inside. 2/5 Last note- these wraps look small and after eating you may consider more food. This may be a cliché, nonetheless this description is spot on. My order of channa chaat was made with freshly prepared chick peas bathed in second to none green chutney. Chai was enlightening as it was not at all sweet as I am accustomed to. No more Starbucks chai ever again. Saw that spice waala opened in Ballard and had to try it out. As someone who spent 12 weeks in India, Indian food has a special place in my heart. Spice waala was no disappointment and was surprisingly busy for a Friday lunch. Food came out in a timely fashion and I have to say-- the tikka rolls are the perfect size. We did the aloo ones. I expected them to be good, but they surpassed all expectations. Next time I want to try the chicken one. Since opening, they've really upped their organizational game! The manager who was there after I wrote my negative review remembered me and apologized profusely, which I appreciated. Every single time we have been here since the food has been perfect and delicious. We usually order online and the food is always ready on time. Our favorites include the masala aloo (delicious spiced fries), the paneer kathi roll, and papdi chaat. We tend to order extra rolls and save them for later. It's just as good as all the yummy chaats I used to get when I lived in the Bay Area, and that's saying something! Side note--their chutneys are now available to buy at Apna Bazaar and Ken's Market. One of the freshest tasting Indian street food I have tried here in US with very authentic Indian chaat flavors. It was not overpowered by spices like other places and had balanced flavors. Mango lassi was the best I have had and tasted free from any coloring and flavor additives that we usually find everywhere else. We tried the paneer bhurji roll, papdi chaat, bhel, aloo tikki chaat, chai, mango lassi and last but not the least, their lychee soft serve which was amazing.
