garlic naan
Erika B.

We went on a random wednesday afternoon and had amazing service. Its a hole in the wall place that served amazing food. The owner was so nice and offered rice pudding at the end of the meal. The garlic cheese naan was my husbands favorite. I personally liked the special curry with chicken.

Phenomenal chicken korma curry (5/5 stars), great garlic naan (5/5 stars), good kofta (4/5 stars), good pakora (4/5 stars), and another good curry (4/5 stars). Unfortunately the mango custard was a 1/5 stars for me. We split it four ways, and none of us had more than two bites of it. I'd describe it as puréed pumpkin: the texture varied from dry to wet, stringy to smooth, and overall was nothing like what I expected (a dairy/forward or ice cream or egg-y dessert).

Garlic basil naan

I ordered Kalia to go for dinner. Like many of the reviews, the restaurant was empty. However, the service was great and staff were friendly. Garlic basil naan: delicious piece of naan however the garlic was relatively bland and I couldn't pick it up. The naan itself was delicious, light, and fluffy by itself though. Tikka masala with chicken: generous portion of white meat chicken. The chicken didn't seem to be cooked in the tikka masala as the center of it was completely white but that makes sense as you can adjust the proteins. The flavor of the tikka masala was heavy with tomato - it almost seemed like the only ingredient was tomato. Overall an okay spot for Indian food but it doesn't seem authentic.

This place is such a gem. I've been here twice now and both times the service and food were fantastic. The food is super flavorful, served fresh, and comes out to you quickly. The servers I had were incredibly friendly and attentive. The ambiance is nice, it's a small restaurant so it's not super noisy or hectic. They usually have some sort of video playing softly in the background on a large TV, one time it was an Indian musical and another time it was an ASMR video of a guy preparing food on a frozen lake. If you're looking for a quiet, local, hole-in-the-wall gem of a restaurant to eat some incredible food, this is the place to try. We'll be back here quite a bit.

We were looking for something close that had reasonably priced Indian food. This plan popped up! We loved the naan and rice, the aloo gobi was pretty tasty and good amount of spice. The butter chicken was a tad salty for us. We ordered take out, it was super quick, they were nice and kept our food warm. Super nice person who served us.

Stopped in for a weeknight dinner and sat ourselves down quickly. The server was very kind and nice we felt welcome. Just an FYI this place takes spice seriously - we did 4/6 level spice and it definitely packed the heat! Its a very simple interior (no AC). Samosas - delicious and pipping hot! only comment is that they did not have the green mint chutney but they did have tamarind. Aloo Gobi - the best aloo gobi I have had in Seattle. Finally an aloo gobi that has a saucier consistency! it was delicious. Chicken tikka masala - generous portions of chicken in a delicious masala sauce. Naan - it was too good, my only complaint is that I wish it was bigger like some of the other naan's in the Seattle area. No problem - we ordered another one.

We make our trip off of Capitol Hill to go here for their excellent food and service. We have been going here for over 15 years. Consistent throughout!

My husband and I went to taste of India on a rainy Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. The inside…read morewas warm and cozy, and our servers were prompt and attentive. The currys were piping hot and delicious. I've struggled to find great butter masala in Seattle, and taste of India's hit the mark! Not pictured, but their naans are huge. My husband and I each ordered naan, and the amount of rice, curry, and naan was the perfect amount for a full serving of leftovers. We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary samosa appetizers and chocolate torte dessert. Ultimately this place is fantastic and we look forward to coming back- would love to come on a summer evening and sit outside on their patio.

so, this place is pretty clearly, and almost objectively so, made exclusively for westerners…read more what i mean by that is that this place serves Indian food that will not attempt to challenge western palettes in any way - rather its goal is to have people walking out with a mildly positive attitude towards the food. if someone were to ask them how the food was, they will say that it's fine and say that indian food is an underrated cuisine. the first indication of this that caught my eye was on the menu, where it was listed that "all spice levels are American standard". The fact that this is on the menu at an *Indian restaurant* is pretty ridiculous, in my opinion. I'll get to the spice levels later The second indication was when the waiter brought out our naan, and said "Here's your naan bread". I almost laughed out loud at this point. Naan bread? Thank god we didn't order chai or he would've said "Here's your chai tea". when we actually got our food, it was as disappointing as I expected Despite the fact that I ordered the 'Hot' spice level (the second highest), this had utterly no spice at all. I know that I have a high spice tolerance, but you know it's not good when other people at my table who have a low tolerance cannot taste any spice whatsoever. I've had hotter dishes ordering the 'Hot' level at American restaurants! In addition to there not being any spice, there was pretty much no flavor at all to the curries. There was just no point to the gravy on both the Jaipuri "Masala" and the Vegetable Kofta, as it both cases it was quite bland and essentially tasted like nothing. The paneer and the kofta were ok - but nothing more than average. Again, the lack of any kind of flavor is just crazy. Our table also got the Biryani, which had decent vegetables but also suffered from a lack of flavor The roti and garlic naan that we got were really hard and difficult to break apart. not very good at all If you're Indian - do not come here - you'll get far better Indian food either a) at home or b) at another place If you're not Indian - I would highly recommend trying another place to actually get a taste of what Indian food is really like. This watered-down version simply isn't it. I would recommend Saffron Grill in Northgate for an example of Indian food done correctly on the positive side, one thing i appreciated about this menu is the customization available for different curries this is especially helpful when it relates to giving options to vegetarians, as it doesn't restrict people who are vegetarian to specific curry options having paneer, vegetables, and tofu options available for each curry is pretty good i also thought the spinach naan was pretty good. out of all the bread we ordered, it was the only naan that managed to be soft, and easy to pull apart the spinach inside tasted pretty good as well the complimentary samosas (although clearly reheated from frozen) and sweet at the end was a decent touch the portion sizes were also decent - the amount of rice that came with the curry was pretty significant

Food: We ordered a decent number of dishes: Biriyani, Curry Leaf Chicken, Veg Curry, Manchurian…read moreCorn, Naan. All were pretty solid. The low spice level was good for my weak palate and overall the flavors were solid. In particular, I liked the veggie curry. Service: This was where the experience felt lackluster. It took well over 10 minutes for the one server (not her fault, they're lowkey understaffed for a Sunday lunch) to make their way to our table after we were sat. Our waters were never filled once after the initial filling (why would we still be expected to tip?), and the food took longer than average to come out than I've had at other Indian establishments. Granted, the food was better than I've had at other Indian places, but the time it took for things to come out was a bit longer than we would've liked. The plates that were at our table were also definitely cleaned poorly. The restaurant is only a GOOD rating out of five on the cleanliness scale (inspection done by the health department in the state of WA) and I think that does not come without reason. My plate still had some food remnants and smudges from previous servings. Atmosphere: Pretty decent place to talk, seating was fine, bathrooms were clean. Overall no other issues with cleanliness outside of the plate.

We got the curry leaf chicken and the Vijayawada special boneless Chicken biryani at medium spice. The spice level was manageable, and the flavors were good. Although, both dishes felt pretty greasy, almost like they were cooked with a heavy oil, which made them feel a bit heavy to eat. The portions also seemed a little less for the price. The place itself has decent seating and looks comfortable if you're dining in. Overall, the food was flavorful but the greasiness and portion size made my experience just okay.

I've dined at India Bistro many years ago pre-Yelp. Same spot situated along Market like forever…read more However, I decided to reacquaint myself again with a TGTG double pickup on 3/17/26. Indian takeout on St. Patrick's Day, oops my bad. Most likely this takeout was cobbled together from the lunch buffet. Overall the cuisine was a decent variety and generously packaged. Each takeout box had basmati rice, peas & carrots in a tomato based sauce, bite sized samosas, with the main entrees provided were butter chicken, saag paneer, and chicken vindaloo. Reasonable to call it a takeout thali. Can't speak to ambiance because it was takeout. Service was swift and efficient, showed my TGTG order and handed a bag with two takeout containers. In, out, and go. I was glad for the thick plastic bag because it was overfilled, oozed out, and could have been a mega mess in the car heading back home. What was missing was the ka-pow flavor! Indian cuisine usually has mega flavor and palate pleasing. This did not align with my earlier visits from way back when. Perhaps I'm accustomed to fave Indian spots in the UDistrict. But when brought home, another family member,The Homie, agreed on this assessment when we later dined at home. Not bad, not great. Kind of a let down from my earlier memories of India Bistro. With the vast regional Indian spots in Seattle and across the lake in Bellevue and Redmond, I kind of expected OG India Bistro to be gold standard. Just okay, hence the three stars for this TGTG experience.

Guys just skip it. We did the lunch buffet for 16.95. We should have checked out the buffet itself…read morebefore committing to eating it, but didn't unfortunately. There were maybe 6 options total. The butter chicken and saag paneer tasted like nothing. The carrots and peas and the cauliflower curry were both lacking spices. I wanted to support local Ballard businesses but please do yourself a favor and skip this one. Everything truly tastes like frozen, heated up old food. $40 dollars later and I'm just hoping I don't get sick tomorrow.
