First time visiting this newish restaurant. The place was spotless and relaxing atmosphere. The server who happened to be the owner was super sweet, very friendly and recommended my delicious dish. I got the Prik Khing and got it extra spicy. It was DELICIOUS and made my nose run. Lastly, the bathroom was probably the cleanest restaurant bathroom I've ever been in. Nice looking place inside. I did stop by for lunch, I only saw one server with at least 10 tables sat. It did take a bit of time for the server to greet me. I did order Trout lunch special with Wasabi maki roll. It came out first with trout following it 15-20 minutes later. Lunch was busy. Honestly, the server was so busy she did forget about my Golden Trout, though when mentioned about it, they did quickly recover with a fresh hot trout served. It was good. With side of house made salsa and collard greens. Jasmine rice was spot on. Great recovery. I'll try it again. We all deserve a second chance. read more

Super pretty interior. The sushi bar area and the water feature are a nice touch. I popped in here for lunch. Not a long wait and super fast on the sushi. I felt like it was a bot expensive for lunch, but the volcano roll was yummy! The fresh spring rolls were a miss - not veggie option removing the pork removed the flavors. read more

We've had better experiences here in the past, which made this visit especially disappointing. The service from Heather was honestly unacceptable. We were polite the entire time, but she frequently walked away while we were still speaking and didn't seem to listen carefully to our order. One frustrating issue was being charged an extra $3 for plain white rice with the curry without being told ahead of time. We had already ordered a curry, two noodle dishes, and basil fried rice, so the extra charge felt unnecessary and should have been communicated clearly before the bill arrived. Another concerning moment was when we asked for our food to be made spicy. Heather claimed there was a "language barrier" with the kitchen staff and acted like they wouldn't understand spice levels. As an Asian customer, I found those comments offensive and inappropriate. She also discouraged us from ordering dessert by telling us the crème brûlée "wasn't that good" and "doesn't set properly," which made it seem like she was more interested in rushing us out than serving us. At that point, we were ready to leave. Beyond the service, the portions were surprisingly small for the price. We ended up ordering an extra noodle dish because there was barely any rice served with the curry. The basil fried rice was the only standout item -- the rest of the food was average at best. Overall, this place seems to be going downhill in both service and quality. Maybe they were understaffed, but for the prices they charge, the experience simply wasn't worth it. Unfortunately, there are plenty of other Thai restaurants in town with better service, better portions, and better value. read more

My wife wanted to have her celebratory dinner at Spice for Mother's Day this past Sunday. We invited her daughter and son-in-law to join us for the special occasion. While the restaurant was busy, we were able to be seated right away. The server came by, brought menus and took our drink orders. Three of us ordered water and I ordered tea with lemon. The drinks arrived eventually, my tea without the lemon that I had asked. After reminding the waitress 4 separate times, she eventually brought the lemon. We each ordered a different dish and after a decent amount of time waiting, my dinner and my daughter in laws dinner came out to the table. My daughter-in-law's dish was not what she ordered but she decided to eat it anyway rather than send it back. We both waited before starting our meal in hopes that the other two dishes would soon be brought to the table. The server came by and said the other two dishes were "almost finished" and would be brought out any minute. We waited 15 mintues and still no food. The server came by again and said she would go check on it. The server walked by our table several other times without any updates, and on one occasion, even walked up to the table and abruptly walked away without saying anything. Finally, my wife's meal was delivered but still no meal for my son-in-law. The waitress told us it was just taking a long time because they were busy.....he only ordered fried rice so I assume that was in some way, mostly already prepared anyway. After a considerable amount of time, the server brough my son in law a meal, not what he ordered though. He told her that he only ordered fried rice and she asked him if he would just like to cancel his order since the three of us were in various stages of finishing our dinner. We insisted that she go ahead and get his dinner correct, and she eventually did. While the poor service is probably not entirely the waitress' fault, she should have been more communicative in addressing our problems. Even though the service was some of the worst that I have ever experienced at a restaurant, what happened next is what really has me angry. The server brought our check and when I looked at it, the total was considerably more than I had expected it to be. Upon further inspection of the bill, I noticed that Spice had the audacity to automatically add a considerable tip on to this terrible dinning experience. I looked for the manager to address my concern but they were no where to be found. I deducted the tip that was erroneously added to the check and authorized my credit card to be charged for the food and sales tax ONLY! I checked my credit card bill this morning and see that they have added the unauthorized tip back to my bill and charged my card more than I authorized. I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company today. read more

I recently got to come here for a work lunch and try what was previously owned by Surin of Thailand. I will say even though I do miss the previous place I was pleasantly surprised as to how everything had been refreshed inside and on the menu. All of our food came out great and as expected; the staff was super friendly and was curious of our feedback on the food as well. It looked very bright inside and the natural light coming in more was a nice touch. Will be back soon! read more

1st time here. Ambiance and decor are modern and trendy. Music was neat, but the volume louder than Id expect. Ordered the Basil rolls (summer) and they were really good with the traditional peanut sauce. Also ordered the chicken Pad Thai and the chicken pineapple fried rice. The pad Thai was delicious! Highly recommend it. The pineapple chicken fried rice was good, but it already had a lot of seasoning, so I don't recommend adding soy sauce at all. The service was great, as our server was really attentive. The manager was also friendly and helpful with helping us out when it was needed. Very nice service in a fun atmosphere. The curry was great, the pad thai was overly sweet.

Ate here last week. Not too sure how the rating is so high. We ordered two meals and an appetizer. I had pineapple fried rice. It was almost tasteless. Only good after adding soy sauce. Maybe I was there on a bad day, but for total with tip to exceed $80 for two people, no liquor just hot tea and soda water, it was too much. So happy Spice Thai is open! We've been several times and the food is phenomenal! Sushi (super crunch, country roll are faves), Panang, pad prik, pad woon sen and the kids chicken and rice are our go to's! The staff is very friendly as well! Currently my favorite plate for sushi and Asian fusion takeout. Food is consistent and much better than others in the area, plus they are always very friendly. Only thing I've tried which I didn't like was the fried eggrolls which are very bland. I know restaurants usually get those frozen from suppliers, but they could do with trying another brand. Other than that, food is always excellent. I've had the edamame, seaweed salad, crab angles (yes, angles, not angels lol), pot stickers, dim sum, satay chicken, coconut soup, Thai fried rice, pad Thai, basil fried rice, spicy basil, panang chicken, and many different kinds of nigiri and sushi rolls, and I would recommend any of those dishes. I actually haven't eaten inside since this place changed from Surin to Spice, but the renovations look nice. read more

It seemed like a great restaurant/food however server did not know about the ingredients in the plate I ordered. I inquired about artificial dyes in the ginger since the presentation showed a ginger color (pinkish) and she responded it had none. Further she added it was the pickling process. The food was sweet and so I suspected sugar was included in the sauces. There was red dye mixed in probably with the ginger which looked suspicious to begin with. I broke out in a rash I get when I consume red dye. I only recommend this place if you are not allergic to red dye or consume sweet food for your meals. read more

Okay, admittedly this place might be fine if you've never had Asian food before. The Tom Yum was easily the worst soup I've had (and I usually love Tom Yum). The shrimp in the soup also tasted off. To fill my stomach I ended up ordering potstickers and a side of rice. The potstickers were lukewarm by the time they got to me and were the same as the $4 I buy in a bag at TJ's. I could've made this meal for myself for less than $3 but ended up paying close to $30 at Spice Thai. read more

Best Thai in Knoxville. This is in the same building as the old Surin of Thailand and it feels very much like the old place, similar vibe, similar menu and similarly good food. There are some changes and its new owners but they are doing a great job and if you liked Surin of Thailand I think you will like this place too. read more

My husband and I ate here on Friday, 11/15. I was craving Thai food and we had eaten at the previous restaraunt in this space and had enjoyed it. We were VERY disappointed! It took forever to get our spring roll appetizer which was very small and lpoked as if it had nothing but cabbage inside. The only taste came from the sauce. We then waited a very long time for our entrees. It was early 5-5:30 pm and it wasn't busy so that was not the isssue. When our food came, the ginger stir fry had absolutely no taste. it didn't taste like ginger at all. It took me a while to get the servers attention. I explained the problem and she brought out a dish of dried spices to help. I smelled it and nope...not putting that on my food. I complained again and she had the owner come by the table. She explained that the server wasn't very good and that they have the same chef as before (where the food was good). He must have forgotten how to cook during the renno. It was the worst $50 we have spent on food in a long time. We had two entrees, one appetizer and two soda waters and the bill was that much? I truly believe that we were overcharged. We were given a crème brûlée for our trouble to take home. Really? Crème brûlée at a Thai restaurant? I truly believe that my entree should have been comped. There is NO way that meal should have cost $50! As a side note, the shades on the front windows need to be fully lowered after dark because the parking is right out front and the car headlights are blinding when a car pulls in, which happens frequently.
