I went out to dinner with my mom and some family friends this past Wed. There used to be a really good Chinese restaurant in Knoxville...honestly i don't remember its name or location but it doesn't exist anymore. My mom said Asia Kitchen is the best Chinese in the city now. Unfortunately if that is correct, then it makes me very sad. I have eaten at "Real" Chinese restaurants before and this is not close imo. I got Szechuan Beef...this is supposed to be a very spicy dish. My order was not spicy at all...not saying it was bland, but it didn't have the "kick" I was expecting. My mom shared a whole steamed fish with her friends. They did enjoy it, but it wasn't for me. I have decided to bump my rating up to four stars because of the wonton/egg drop soup. I didn't even realize this was a thing. We got one large serving and it was plenty for the table. Finally the reason i didn't give 5 stars was because of the table service. The others brought wine , but i ordered a Diet Coke when we were seated. Unfortunately it never arrived...our server acknowledged my order, but I guess she forgot during the dinner rush. I did have water so I didn't complain. Overall dinner was ok...it was very nice that we were allowed to take our time. read more

Finally a place with real chinese food, not the same ol, same ol panda express saucy meats with rice and noodles. Delicious mapo tofu that lasted two meals for me. We ordered $65 worth of food and were very disappointed. The beef with broccoli and chicken lo mein had no flavor. The noodles were mushy and there was very little chicken. The beef with broccoli was also flavorless. We could not discern any delicious sauce we were hoping for. The orange chicken was the only semi good dish because it was coated in an orange glaze that I could have bought anywhere. The egg drop soup was heavy on the sesame oil. Overall it was really good. Fried rice tasted more like white rice with some color, not like fried rice. I added some chili oil, oyster sauce and teriyaki and that made it taste waaay better. Like all terrific Asian spots, this was located in a strip mall. Bonus points as it was next to a legit & large Asian grocery store, so you know that the vegetables and meats were fresh. The ambience isn't much but the food portions and authentic Asian taste make up for it. My party of four were very impressed by the value and efficiency from this restaurant. From the time we sat down till the time our food arrived at our table, it had to be less than 15 minutes! The food was also very good with a lot of 'wok breath' to their stirfry dishes. The pricing was VERY reasonable, especially for the humongous portions. One dish could easily feed 2 to 3 people...especially with the mounds of rice they give you. We originally were going to hit the smoothie shop next-door for dessert, but all of us were so stuffed and full after, we basically waddled out of the restaurant. We also had enough leftover, we had food for lunch the next day. Check this place out if you're ever in town and nearby. I'm from Houston, TX; we have very good Chinese food there. Asia Kitchen is definitely comparable. I was extremely impressed and pleased with finding an authentic Chinese restaurant in east TN. Now I can get a little taste of home whenever I miss it. Service was good. We've dined in for dinner and have had take out for lunch. They're busy each time we came. We've tried: Double cooked pork Stir fried cauliflower in fire pot Fish fillet & soft tofu in hot chili gravy String beans with ground pork Mapo tofu with ground pork Orange chicken (to go but I'd recommend better to dine in) Our favorite is the double cooked pork. We have dined here in the past and always remembered the execution of their entrees and family style lazy Susan's for groups at the table. We wandered in as the after church crowd on Sunday. It was packed which is usually a good sign. The appetizer egg rolls, steamed dumplings and seared pot stickers were amazing. The cheese wontons were crunchy cream cheese pillows fit for a king. Egg rolls and Rangoon's were lightly fried and light and crispy! For mains the table decided on baby bok choy in garlic sauce, yellow curry with chicken, moo goo gai pan with chicken and wontons in chili sauce. Each one had developed flavor and was authentic preparation. The garlic baby bok choy was incredibly delicate and if you have tried bok choy and experienced a celery type of ingredient, this will open your mind to the possibilities. The most legit Chinese food in Knoxville... General Tao's Chicken, Spicey Green Beans with Ground Pork, and Shrimp and Mixed Vegetables...lunch portions! All 9.95 (shrimp 10.45); they come with choice of rice, soup or egg/spring roll. Let's just start with the Hot and sour soup...lovely authentic taste with the right mixture of tofu, veggies and spice. The egg and spring rolls are hot, crunchy and filled with pork or vegetables as described. The spicy green beans are so good you can't stop eating them. So I am a pho snob especially being from San Jose where we have some of the best pho ever. I knew I was not going to get comparable Pho in Knoxville but really had a craving for it and this place had the best reviews. It's a large restaurant and on a late Monday evening, it was about 1/3 full but everyone else was eating Chinese food. I ordered a small pho tai with a side of veggie spring rolls. The pho came out and I was really confused as to why the soup was so foamy and bubbly. It irked me out but I ate it anyways. For a small, it was a huge portion. So much noodles, but not that much steak which were thicker cuts, some too chewy. The sprouts didn't look super fresh, but appreciated that they gave me a side of white onions. When the veggie spring rolls didn't come out, I cancelled it because it was way too much food already. She had forgotten which was completely fine. Service was good here though, but don't think pho is their speciality. read more

Walked in 5 minutes before 3:00, and there were only 2 tables with guest. They took a few minutes to seat me, then a few more minutes to take my drink order. Finally they brought my drink and I placed my lunch order, only to be told that lunch ended at 3:00. It was exactly 3:05, and they would not make an exception, so I was required to order the dinner portion of the same dish. The food was just fair. The fried dumplings and Mongolian beef were both a bit bland and disappointing. No true dumpling sauce, just soy sauce. Terrible, slow service. I also asked specifically if the dish I ordered was vegan because there was no mention of anything I choose not to eat. I asked, "no meat, no eggs, no cheese? The server replied, "No, no, no..." except when our food finally arrived after waiting close to an hour, my bowl was loaded with scrambled eggs, which were not even mentioned on the menu as part of the dish. Maybe I got someone else's dinner? I have no idea. Of course they never checked back with us, so I picked out what I could. Traditional Cantonese food! This place is so popular. If you're going during traditional lunch or dinner hours, prepare for a wait. BIG TIP-if you are doing takeout, make sure you order at least one hour ahead of time because it gets really busy here. My favorite is spicy wontons on the appetizers. Extensive menu, well beyond the basic. Food was prepared well, great flavor. Been a long time since I ate at a restaurant with diners from so many languages and cultures. Native Chinese speakers were about 1/3, inticating trust of restaurant team. Especially in TN. Sat near kitchen and saw so many different dishes. I had hot & sour soup, daughter had egg drop, both were excellent. Egg rolls had tender wanton skin, unlike most places, filling was savory cabbage & seasonings, ideal. She also had vegetable pan fried noodles. I had braised tofu with shredded pork & mixed vegetables. Portion size was very large, vegetables were fresh and top quality. Who uses whole black mushrooms the diameter of a golf ball? We both enjoyed the half we could eat, the left overs should be a full meal. Remember, unlike American culture, meals are slower so, plan on a little slower pacing than you might get elsewhere. Great is worth the wait. read more

What a hidden gem!! To be honest--when I walked in and saw the clientele...I wasn't sure we'd find anything as authentic as I was craving. Iykyk. The food was fantastic. The wontons in chili oil were delicious--and it's really not too spicy at all so don't be scared by the color. My only request is that the wontons be a little meatier- super heavy on the dough. The general tsos is clearly an Americanized concoction, but it was delicious. Hot and crispy and not too cloyingly sweet or gummy which it can sometimes be. The star, to me, was the clay pot eggplant. It's insanely hot temp wise and stays that way, but the flavors are so delicious. It's oily, but that's the way it's cooked and probably why it tastes so good. One small improvement to me would be the rice--it's classic Chinese restaurant rice, a little drier. Some nice jasmine rice would elevate everything just a bit more, so I can't wait to go home and have my leftovers with hot jasmine rice. The service is quick, the restaurant has a bunch of booths and is pretty cozy and quiet. Prices are great for the portions- leaving with tons of leftovers. Will be back again to try the number of authentic menu items!! read more

On my way home to Atlanta and stopped for dinner. I got roast duck with rice noodle soup and Chinese cabbage with garlic slice. It's a pretty cold day in January and this was a perfect hot meal. Nothing fancy about this meal; it just tasted and felt right out of a family kitchen in the best way. The cabbage tastes very mild at first but as you eat it each bite tastes better and you just want to eat more. Fresh ingredients and prepared with heart. Very friendly staff and low key pleasant environment. Even with all of the great options for Chinese cuisine in Atlanta, I would still come here if it were in town. Asia Kitchen will become a regular stop for me when going through Knoxville. read more

I thought it was good but I'm a gweilo. My wife is Chinese and she was surprised that it was this good and authentic. Service is attentive but it will take 45-60 min to get your food -- authentic food isn't fast. The eggplant with beef in the clay pot was very good (I like slightly cameralized oyster sauce) although a bit oily but it's northern style. The serving was very large, enough to fill two people. The braised fish was also great. Lots of fish, very tender and slightly sweet with braised tofu and carrots. Again, large serving. The Chinese broccoli was a little too oily but also had good flavor (broth was likely not vegetarian ) and was not over cooked. Again, large dinner plate serving size. Rice was good too, just a little dry and slightly sticky as should be. Beef shank in chili sauce is a cold dish. Imagine dense but tender beef slices with chilis and cilantro- the cilantro balances the chili -- first Chinese cold dish I've had that I really enjoyed. read more

Was craving some Chinese food so decided to give this place a go. We order crab rangoons, fried dumplings, veggie lo mein, spicy garlic chicken, and mapo tofu. The crab rangoons were delicious and they did not skimp on the cream cheese and crab which I appreciated. The fried dumplings were okay. They were lacking some crunch which I'm sure was partly because of the takeout. The veggie lo mein was really good! Tons of veggies and great flavor. The mapo tofu was was good, albeit a lot of oil, but hey that's where the flavor was I guess haha. Lastly, is the spicy garlic chicken. Which I felt was lacking some heat and garlic. The food was good. My problem was when I got the bill, they add 10% if you're not paying in cash!!! Credit card companies only charge the merchant 2.65ish% fee so the restaurant is making money on you there too. I feel this is bad business procedure considering today's economy. read more

I stumbled on this place by accident. The Chinese place near our home switched to some strange hours and was closed - so I did a Google search, and this place popped up. As I walked in, I noticed the place was full of Asians- (that had to be a good sign) and I thought this must be the place, and it was. I ordered the shrimp and mixed vegetables with won ton soup - both were delicious. The won ton soup is the best I've had in Knoxville. The meal is the best Chinese food I've had since living in Knoxville. I've been back several times, and my go-to order is the shrimp with broccoli, with brown sauce, spicy & won ton soup - it is delicious. Having lived on the west coast most of our lives, the wife and I were fortunate enough to have enjoyed some great Asian cuisine. Asia kitchen delivers on taste, variety and authenticity. Their menu is vast and you'll never be wanting when you're in the mood to try something new. A standard dish like orange chicken is elevated here, try it. Kung Pao chicken (ask for extra spicy) and beef with jalapenos (so tender) are some of our favs. Soups are above average. Deservedly, they can get busy, so expect that during popular times and be patient. I think you'll find any wait worth it.
