When I first started with my company (nearly 3 years ago), there was a Spice Thai Express in a nearby food court where I would LOVE to go to for lunch. I loved it so much until one day a different Thai place took over and all of the food I had love disappeared without a trace... It was so difficult to search for Spice Thai since there is that Spicy Thai chain all over the place, but I finally found it!!!!!!! Yayyyy!! One day I was feeling sick so I decided to head here after work under the theory that the soup and spices will help me rid myself of the congestion. Despite being alone, I still ordered everything I wanted. SMALL TOM YUM SOUP ($7.95) I never ordered this at the food court express location but I was sick so I thought it would be good for me. This sweet and sour soup comes with chicken, carrots and mushrooms in a broth that is infused with lemongrass, lime juice and chili. I feel like the soup was a bit on the pricey side considering that there was not a lot of chicken inside. I also felt that it would benefit from more lemongrass. I probably won't order this again here. GREEN CURRY ($9.95) When the Green Curry first came I felt like it LOOKED different, but after tasting it I knew it was the same as the Green Curry I had fell in love with years ago. This dish came with chicken and bamboo shoots in a coconut milk, basil and chili sauce. I wish the sauce was a bit thicker because it was very runny but the taste is definitely on point. SIDE ORDER OF WHITE RICE ($1.50) Okay... When I'm ordering curry as an entree at any other place they give me rice with it. This is the only place to ever ask if I want to get a side order of white rice to go with it. I can care less about the $1.50 but it's more about the concept of the situation that annoys me slightly. CRYING TIGER ($11.99) Ohh the tears of joy!! I used to get the crying tiger salad for lunch all of the time!! This place has it as an entree where a hefty amount of charbroiled prime cut beef is marinated and served with a thai herb salad and a spicy lime sauce. It was so delicious. This dish is actually BETTER than I remembered. The meat was so much more succulent and well marinated compared to when I had it at the express location. This was a positive surprise!!! I clearly LOVE the food and if the service was relatively nice or even just okay I probably would have rounded this experience to a 5 star, but it wasn't. The guy working here was so grumpy and irritated, it was definitely killing my incredibly good mood. This is what happens when someone gets lazy -- namely ME! I have all the ingredients to make what I had today at Spice Thai, but of course, instead of coming home to make it, I was lazy and decided to eat out instead. C'mon, I mean, this place is virtually packed at lunch time and I had to wait for a table, so I gathered it MUST be good right? WRONG! I debated between the green curry chicken or the Crying Beef for a long time before settling for my favorite dish of gaeng khiew-waan (green curry with chicken). A bowl of complimentary soup arrived -- very weird tasting. Its goal was some sort of tom yum, but it lost its way somewhere. It was not sour enough and had a strange sweetness to it. I immediately started to regret ordering the green curry fearing that it would arrive on the sweet side. When my main course arrived, I was quite excited. It looked rather good. I took a taste of the sauce and found that it was indeed too sweet. WAY too sweet. I was disappointed. I motioned for the server to bring me some nam pla prik (chilis in fish sauce). Not only did my dish need some saltiness but also, some heat. I couldn't detect any heat in this green curry at all. The nam pla prik arrived, but instead of the traditional Thai birds eye chilis, I couldn't tell if they used jalapenos or serrano chilis. It had a little heat, but just didn't cut it. I had to use a lot -- almost the entire jar and with a few dashes of the fish sauce, my green curry was somewhat palatable. I ended up eating just the chicken and bamboo shoots and leaving all the sauce since most of the flavor was in the sauce and I felt like I was eating something resembling a dessert more than a curry. I guess I should've just ordered the Crying Tiger. This place reminds me of Thai Specialty 2 in Tustin except it was a lot more expensive. Mine was the lunch special and while at Thai Specialty 2 it was $6.95 for lunch specials, my lunch special was $8.95. After tax and tip it was over $10. So disappointing and now I'm left wanting some decent green curry. I guess I'll have to get my lazy ass up and into the kitchen and whip up some. read more

There's a Thai place right near me and I didn't know about it? What's up with that? How sad is that? Want to know something even worse? I've been living here for 2 years and I didn't know about it. Thanks to Yelp, I'm now getting better at exploring my neighborhood. So this Thai place is located in the Albertsons shopping center and it's not that big, but I heard it does get crowded at dinner. The decor is decent. Lots of Thai type art on the wall and glass tables. The walls are lined with booths and we got one in the back. There was a table near the front that got very loud during the course of our meal. Maybe they were drunk? But anyway, before leaving the lady in the group decided to tell everyone that we didn't want to know what had just happened in the bathroom. A male companion had been with her. Yeah, we really didn't. Maybe I won't eat here past 8. Mental note. We settled for the Chicken Pad Thai, Crazy Cashew Chicken, and the the Veggie Curry with Chicken. We chose the veggie curry and added Chicken because we all love veggies and the the Chicken Curry only has potatoes and chicken. We like options and lots of them. I started off with my traditional Thai iced tea and was disappointed to learn it was made with half and half instead of condensed milk. I don't know if I'll be having Thai iced tea again. A real Thai iced tea should be made with condensed milk. Oh well. Our food was great. I should really dock a star because when we asked for more rice, the waitress nodded at us, but continued with her sweeping and only when she was done did we get our rice. And after the check came we noticed the wait staff was busy eating out in the open (which is not allowed at any restaurant due to OSHA guidelines) and did not bother to take our check until my friend coughed loudly to get their attention and even then they looked bothered. Did they not want repeat business? I'm not sure but I hope that changes soon because I'd love to come back here but the service really needs to improve. read more

It is not as lemony or wet as other places. Ask for some lemon. After I added lemon the dish was spicy and delicious! The rard nah gravy noodles with pork was super wet. Very gooey and tasty. I've been here dozens of times over the last 5 years now and have never been disappointed. I may sound like a broken record but the Crying Tiger is exceptionally good. The quality of the meat is top notch (I think it's flank steak) and it's thoroughly penetrated with the perfectly balanced marinade and it's always tender and flawlessly cooked. The crying tiger sauce they give you on the side is delicious. The house soup they include with the meal is also great. I love the host and he always provides great service, I just wish I knew his name. I'm giving it 5 Stars and think it's a solid and well run Thai restaurant. read more

Bhan Baitong Thai Cuisine was closed on Monday and so, my coworker and I decided to come here instead. We came here last year and now I remember why, we haven't been back. Something inside of me propelled me to order the thai noodle soup, thinking it will be just as good as thai food in Hollywood. I was so wrong. The noodles tasted like, they just quickly rinsed it and threw it into a watered down soup base with some soap tasting canned carrots, urgh. Even with all the spices and fish sauce that I mixed into the bowl, there was no saving it. I was really disappointed and barely ate... I also ordered the thai coffee, it was okay but not a redeeming factor to how horrible the noodle soup is. I was talked into trying this place for lunch today instead of my regular Thai place in Lake Forest. Never again. I always get Thai BBQ Chicken and not only was the taste very bland, the portion size was laughable. I have been to dozens of Thai restaurants over the years and it is always a half chicken. This was a tiny breast, a tiny thigh, and a drumstick which was closer to the size of a drumette. Maybe I got the kids meal. I ate it in 3 minutes and it was like an appetizer. Waste of $14 after tax and tip. The place up the street I usually go to is the same price, is seasoned way better, and I usually have leftovers. Not going here again. read more

This is a Lake Forest hidden gem. It's located in the Albertsons parking lot. There are a row of Tesla charging stations, but don't worry about parking. The people using the charger park on the side facing the street. Expect to be greeted as you enter and depending on who is working, they may already remember your favorite. The lunch features a soup with fine noodles that tastes like lemongrass. The Crying Tiger is terrific. Very tender and a nice portion. This restaurant is worth a try. read more

I ordered Pad Thai chicken but I got more what seemed like tofo than chicken- I don't mind tofo in my pad thai but if I order chicken- chicken should to be the main/majority protein not tofo... so that was also disappointing. The tofo tasted weird- not like I've tasted before it has brown hard cover on it and taste/smells a bit cheesy. And it's harder texture than white squishy tofo that I'm used to. The accompanying peanut sauce is out of this world! Watch out for the green chili sauce though... It is not for the faint of heart and carries quite a kick! The Coconut Soup is also outstanding! A savory Tom-Kha style soup, it is warming and comforting for all your senses. I would order this time and time again! My hubs ordered the Yellow Curry with Chicken for dinner, and I went with the Panang Curry, also with chicken. Both were excellent. We were given one mound of rice for the both of us, which wasn't quite enough for the sizes of the curry bowls, but still tasty. We had packed up the rest of the curry and made some extra rice for a great snack the next day. Service was very friendly, if not a bit slow. Im conservative on eating out, but Spice Thai is now serving food in the restaurant for those that want to do so. The place is spotless clean and the staff wears masks and face shields and they are super friendly and gracious. The ownership is the same as it has been for 25 years which is unheard of unless your product is just that good! I have been craving Spice Thai for months now. Unfortunately the delivery service does not make it all the way down from Lake Forest to San Juan Capistrano, so I had to make plans to drive up and pick up the food. They did not disappoint. The food here is the highest quality and the taste is over the top. The food was prepared quickly, the portion sizes were too much to eat in one sitting - so we had a 2nd meal. My entire family raved about just how good the food was and we will be back again and again. The take out was packed a 10+ where not one leak occurred and all was well positioned with hot items in a separate bag from the salads. The hot items were very hot as if hot off the range when we opened it up 15+ minutes drive home later. The food was soooooo good. Everything was over the top and we had Vegan and Meats and all was excellent. Crying tiger makes my mouth water thinking as I write this, but the Vegan selections were equally great. Please take the time to try Spice Thai and support them. Its by far the best Thai food place I have eaten at and I have tried many. In the Lake Forest/Foothill Ranch/Mission Viejo/RSM area, there are A LOT of Thai restaurants. This is by far one of my favorites. I absolutely crave their Tom Yung Goong Soup when I am not feeling well. The spicy broth really helps with a sore throat. Well this place has gone downhill. I had gone here before many many times as well as my family members. I just left from this place in utter shock with the way Annie the manager/receptionist treated me, my 9yr old and my elderly mother. I went in there to meet them and ordered Thai tea for us. She refused to accept my card payment because she has a "$10 cash policy" even tho we already ordered $32 in spring rolls. I asked if she has a sign letting customers know this to which she said "I can let you and and you can decline if you don't like it". I tried to be polite after this. When we got our food I told her we decided to eat inside after all and started to sit. She made a face and ordered us to move tables. I said we preferred to be near the door and she said "No, I already set that table up for tomorrow". I was shocked at how she said it and her tone. I only wanted to stay next to the door because my mom is elderly and was already sitting there with my daughter. Why make a customer move so forcefully and be so rude about it. I find it shocking that someone can treat their paying customers this way, especially in post COVID when small business are suffering and NEED all the support from their community. Beware of this place. Not only have their raised their prices but the service is horrible. They do not care about your experience or to treat your decently and kindly. Take your business elsewhere. 4.5 Really good. Spice Thai might now be my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. I haven't tried all of them but this one is extremely good. The Tom Kha Kai soup was very good. The soup had some spiciness to it, coconut, chicken and vegetables. My husband and our friend, super reviewer Kat L, shared the pineapple fried rice and beef medallions. The beef was very good - tender, tasty, just right. I normally order Pad Thai but did not this time. That gives me a valid reason to come back. We also had a yellow curry chicken dish which Tom and Kat enjoyed. I thought it was good also but my taste veers towards beef. Chicken is good but I am more of a beef eater. I am going to order the beef again in the future. Service was very nice. They were polite, helpful and attentive to us. The owner came by our table and asked how we were doing.
