Thai Garden is a quaint restaurant in Foothill Ranch that is a bit of a treasure. Not fancy, but simple and clean. We visited with our soccer family at the request of my son to have Thai food. I personally look at not only the ratings but the pics of the food in order to determine if we should go to a place - this had some good pictures that looked enticing. But after eating there, the original pics did not do this place justice. We ordered the shrimp and veggie spring rolls, bamboo shoots veggie dish, beef satay, chicken pad Thai, and a pad see ew. That was last night - it's morning and I'm still thinking about the yummy flavors in my mouth! The spring rolls were good - well wrapped and filled with a perfectly made peanut sauce to dip it in. The bamboo shoots dish came with a plethora of vegetables and was mildly to moderately spicy in a good way. My favorites were definitely the beef satay which was cool to perfection and the pad Thai - very well done - and I've been eating at different Thai places since I was a teenager! The noodles were on point with the texture, the flavor was saturated throughout every bite, so yummy! I did not try the pad see ew but it looked really good. Love the quantity given and the high quality of the food. Our meals fed three very hungry JV soccer players and four famished parents. Our waitress/server was very attentive, friendly, and smiling with a welcoming air that made us feel like we were eating at her home. Loved it and we are definitely returning! Thai Garden is located in the Foothill Plaza, at the corner of Portola Pkwy and Glenn Ranch Road, next to the Marriott Courtyard and Orange theory Fitness. It is a Thai oasis to enjoy Thai food in a relaxed surroundings. I discovered today that all entrees, fried rice/noodles are available as lunch specials, i.e. with free soup. The soup of the day today is Thai noodle soup. I could kick myself for not having it before for it is amazing. I would come back on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays for the Thai noodle soup if nothing else. I was thinking about drunken noodles earlier but ordered the spicy eggplant instead. It's been a while since we last dined here due to my very last order that we weren't happy with. We wanted Thai food but due to time constraints, we went to Thai Garden as it was the closest. The restaurant is still as nice and clean as when they first opened. One of the workers here, I forget his name, has been here for a very long time. He recognized my husband even after our long absence. That was actually cool to be remembered. He was his usual friendly self. Our server and other team members were very attentive throughout our dining experience. What we ordered this time: 1) Pad-see-ew with tofu - we always have to order this with extra noodles because they don't give you very much in comparison to other restaurants. They're more generous with the protein and veggies. The noodles were delicious, however, I wish they wouldn't charge an extra $8.00 for the extra noodles. As you can see in my photo, it doesn't look like extra noodles. It just looks like the portion other restaurants give without the extra fee. 2) Panang curry with pork - the sauce was amazing as usual but the pork was a bit on the dry side 3) crying tiger - delicious and tender as always 4) Larb - I didn't order it this time but this is a go-to here. 5) papaya salad - another dish I didn't order this time around but is a must-have for me. Overall it's more like a 3.5 out of 5 for me due to the dry pork and the fee for extra noodles, but since I can't do 1/2 points, let's just do a 4. When we first moved to lake forest we were looking for a Thai place that didn't require us to drive 20 minutes back to our old spot for a quick bite. We came across Thai garden and ordered a couple tradition dishes like pad thai, fried rice and spring rolls. Everything was delicious! We heard the crying tiger was their speciality so we decided to come back to try it and I'm so happy we did because that meat was so juicy and tender and the flavor was amazing! We loved it! My mom is a huge meat eater but she is also very picky so if she says it was delicious then you know it was good! Every time she would come over to our house she would request that for lunch! I ordered the lunch special with chow mein and she seemed a little confused as to what I was ordering so I thought I was ordering wrong? Not sure, but the menu for lunch specials is very confusing. And not well written. Each page has their specifications for the lunch special so I thought mine came with soup, salad, and rice, but it only came with soup. No biggy, but for the price it probably wasn't worth it. The soup was alright and my chow Mein was decent, I can't complain much. this is a solid place for dinner located in a busy plaza. personally it wasn't my cup of tea. as i entered it was clear that this place was getting slammed. multiple to-go tickets were neatly arranged in the front and i was impressed by how the staff handled the rush of to-go and dine-in customers. i ordered a chicken pad thai at a level 10/10 spice and was told that my order would be ready in 15 minutes. i was excited for this meal, but the pad thai ultimately felt like it was missing something. it was savory and tangy, but it was nowhere near what i was expecting for a level 10. i have a feeling that this place caters to an audience with a much blander palate and ultimately watered down the spice that thai food could truly offer. i wanted a true thai 10/10 that didn't hold back. in addition, the carrots were undercooked compared to the rest of the veggies, and they were quite large. i think i would have enjoyed the crunch more had the carrots been a little smaller. this is my personal take on the dish. it wasn't the pad thai i was looking for, but it definitely could be someone else's. the portion was generous and there was a lot of meat! there's clearly a lot of love that goes into this place and the food is still flavorful despite lacking the spice i was hoping to get. service and interior was nice and i can definitely see why it's so popular. read more

We have eaten here over 50 times. Usually its good... but.... Tonight we came and were nickle and dimed!! We ordered chicken pad thai, chicken fried rice and a crying tiger ( so salty tonight it was unedible and we took home) w 2 thai iced teas. We paid almost $100. We were charged add ons $2 for green onion $2 for cilantro $1 peanut sauce and $2 for a side of rice (that should be included in $26 crying tiger)...... never been charged so much for so little of a modification. We asked for no carrots and no tofu and extra cilantro and green onion instead (obviously they did not give any credit for what we asked to not be put in just up charge for asking for extra onion and cilantro) Usually foods good...( meat salty, food bland but still ok) usually the service is good ( tonight rice was forgotten) Nothing is perfect and that's ok! But Nickel and diming is terrible when prices are already extremely high!!! What a turn off!! Its unfortunate as we wont be going back anytime soon...... there's like 8 other Thai places within a mile that wont nickel and dime us. What a shame. read more

Yep it's been that long. 13 years ago I had a office here locally that I would visit occasionally and Thai garden was around and Kickin. Back in those days my favorite dish was the crying tiger, will guess what? It's still here and they still serve Crying Thaiger and it's still just as great as it was back then I got a real kick out of having that conversation with the waitress who was obviously a long time employee or owner. I don't know how you cannot give kudos to a restaurant that has survived that long in this area and has maintain their signature dish over that period of time.
