Excellent! We've been going here for a while. I've tried most of their dishes and they're all delicious. And the staff is good - always professional, friendly and polite. It's a bit hidden away in the Ralph's shopping center but seek it out for a great Chinese meal. Today the staff was extra helpful. My mom is on a pre - surgery liquid diet and she loves the hot and sour soup here. I asked the gentlemen if I could get just broth - no tofu. I have been here twice, and each time has been a fantastic experience. This is a much better restaurant than its appearance. From the outside, it looks like your typical chinese takeout, but the food and the service far surpasses any chinese fast food I've had. This is not Panda Express, the food quality is much better. There's a lot of variety and the food itself is flavored extremely well, and the best part is there is no MSG used. The lunch special is good value and the portions are quite good. If you decide to eat in, there's plenty of seating inside and outside. The line for the lunch combo during noon can get long, around 5-10 minutes wait at times, but it's sporadic, you never know when the wait will be shorter or longer. We got the black bean fish, eggplant tofu, teriyaki chicken and BBQ pork, all of which was delicious. The lady in front is pleasant, and friendly. At the current price of the lunch specials, it is one of the best values in Lake Forest and we'll continue to come here regularly because of it. read more

Hands down the best Chinese food I've ever had. So far I've tried the mushroom chicken, orange chicken, curry chicken, dumpling soup and corn and chicken soup, And oh my god, it's all so freakin good. The woman at the front always greets with a smile, she has my order ready all the time, and just... I love this place. The large portion is separate from the rice which I love too where the chicken or whatever main entree is in its own container and the rice is in its own box. Also, the white rice is bangin' even by itself. I'm not trying to talk bad about other places, but this place just knocks it out of the park in terms of flavor and portion. Rising Sun is a hidden gem in the Foothill Ranch Marketplace, next to the KD's donuts. Many have driven passed it on the way to/from Ralph's supermarket without paying any attention. It is where I go for decent Chinese food in this area. Usually we would order the house special fried rice, garlic eggplant with tofu, a meat dish, and a soup. We are usually satisfied when we put chopsticks down. They have a few lunch special items available between 11am and 3pm. After being closed on Sundays for some time, Rising Sun is now open for dinner on Sundays, 3:45-8pm. It's a move I like very much. It now also has tables for dine-in customers but we usually order our food to go, a leftover habit from the pandemic days. For anyone new to the Rising Sun, they identified your to-go order not by name but your phone number. They have a good variety of food, but its definitely the type of food where its chinese people making food the way they think American people want it to taste. As someone who loves panda express and mediocre chinese food, this is usually great. Downside is I got real sick after eating here so its definitely not worth it for how mediocre everything is. We ordered the following items for 5 people (3 adults and 2 kids). Thai Curry Chicken ($13.65) with rice Happy Family ($14.95) with rice Salty & Pepper Pork Chop($14.95) with rice We waited 20 minutes and were surprised to see the big portion size of Salty & Pepper Pork Chop. My kids liked Thai Curry chicken a lot. We were satisfied with the entrees we ordered. The only thing I don't like is that the restroom is not open for the customers. Tried this place since it's on the LF gift card list. We were pleasantly surprised with the extensive menu and I'd say the salt n pepper fish was the highlight. They have a lunch to-go style set up which looks pretty popular. Similar to Panda Express and Sam Woo BBQ togo. We came kind of late so preferred to just order off the menu to have our food made fresh. I think some of the items are hit or miss with it being too salty tasting or just right. The reviews were all over the place for this restaurant, so I had to see for myself how it was. Hot & Sour Soup ($6.45) - 32 oz - This soup, prepared with tofu, wood ear mushroom, and bamboo shoots, had a nice kick to it and was such a great deal! I would definitely get this every time I come here, it's that good! Orange Chicken ($8 - lunch) - The lunch portion comes with steamed rice and an eggroll (vegetarian). Sadly the eggroll was soggy and a major let down. The chicken was slightly crispy and was cooked in a sweet orange sauce. It was ok taste wise, but not as good as Panda Express or another Chinese restaurant I frequent. Hong Kong Style Fried Chicken ($10) - This was one of the best things I ate here. The chicken was crispy and delicious! A sweet plum dipping sauce enhanced the flavor profile. Mongolian beef ($9 - lunch) - lunch - This was the most disappointing dish I tried here. Although the beef was tender, it was tasteless and oily. Spicy garlic fish ($11) - I'm not sure why any of the dishes are called spicy here because they are extremely mild. However, I really enjoyed the taste of this dish with garlic flavor and delicious stir fried fish. Overall a few dishes really impressed me: the hot and sour soup, HK style fried chicken, and the spicy garlic fish. I'd pass on the Mongolian beef, orange chicken, and egg rolls. It's been 4 years since we moved to RSM, and how we did not know about Rising Sun is beyond me. It was a rainy Tuesday and we were CRAVING some hole-in-the wall combination plate-style Chinese food. There are literally no places near us similar to this. We have nice sit-down fancy Chinese restaurants that we can order takeout from, but no mom and pop places....not until we stumbled across Rising Sun. I googled and Yelped, and moved my "search area" into the Foothills, and low and behold popped up the Rising Sun Chinese Food. Rising Sun is your quintessential stop for some of the best and fast Chinese food in the area. They usually have the food out and displayed, however since Covid they are only doing made-to-order (totally understandable). I highly recommend you place an order ahead of time before arriving. We ordered two orange chickens, one veggie fried rice, one veggie chow mein, cream cheese wontons, and teriyaki chicken. Food took about 15-20 mins, but was well worth the wait. The orange chicken was cooked to perfection and crispy to the bite. Fried rice was seasoned just right. Overall; we had a great experience from order to belly. Orange chicken - no, it's not going to taste like Panda Express but their orange chicken is really good and has a spicier kick to it BBQ pork fried rice - mmm can't go wrong with fried rice! Boba milk tea - this was free with any order over $38 and it was really good! If you have a hankering for Chinese food, give Rising Sun a shot. I came in around dinner time, and the steam tables were empty, so I thought they were closed. But no, they just make everything fresh after about 3:00. So this review is for dinner only, I'm not sure how their lunch goes. Ordering a la carte can get expensive, but there were quite a few options that kept me within budget. I opted for the house special chow mein, the orange chicken, and honey walnut shrimp. It all came with a free order of cream cheese wontons. I don't have pictures of the wontons or the shrimp because they didn't last long! Though there was plenty - the portion sizes were about right, and since it was made fresh, everything was really flavorful and hard to stop eating. Did I mention they also deliver? Been visiting here for over 2 decades as it has changed ownership. (Some Great and some not so). A new family owns it and cares about their food! They have embraced the internet and take online orders and use the popular delivery services. Now to the food! Excellent!!! They do mostly made To order dishes so everything is hot and fresh. Have visited them 4 times in the last few weeks and can say everything has been good and consistent. Good Chinese has returned to Foothill Ranch!!! My only negative is that the interior needs some updating but if it's mostly delivery and takeout then that isn't where I'd spend my initial investment money either... Update. Ordered take out several times or over the last 2 months during the covid event. Everything is still hot fresh and delicious! The kids are hooked on the Singapore noodles!!
