Food is good. You won't be blown away by their balance of spicy and not spicy foods but it def is worth for lunch. The service is what you expect from a restaurant that converts from regular sit in vs buffet but honestly the fact that naan is made to order rather than just sitting in the buffet trays is a plus in my book. Clean inside, tough to sit in the chairs because of the tight fit, if you wanna eat by yourself and have some peace of mind, I'd go here. Plus the lunch buffet special price is so worth it. We made a reservation for dinner during a weekday evening and were seated right away upon arrival for a party of 3. I was really curious about the Indo Chinese concept so we ordered the vegetarian Hakka noodles, garlic naan, saag paneer, lamb biryani and chicken vindaloo. Maybe my expectations for Asian food is extremely high but the Hakka noodles were mediocre for me, it tasted pretty bland and did not have enough flavor distinction. The Indian food was better, my favorite was the lamb biryani and garlic naan in terms of flavor. The chicken vindaloo is super spicy which is to be expected and the saag paneer was on the blander side as well. Service was great as our water glasses were constantly filled throughout the meal. A group of us came in on a Sunday night. It's a nice ambience somewhere between casual and a bit more upper scale with the low lighting and music in the background. Everyone was dressed casually and that seemed to fit the vibe fine. We ordered: - Goat Biryani -Chicken 65 - Stuffed Cheese Naan - Chili Lamb -Chicken Tikka Masala - mango lassi Total: $123 The Chicken 65 was not on the menu but there is a note on the bottom of the menu that if you don't see your favorite dish you can request it. It was amazing! The Stuffed Cheese Naan was also great as well as the chicken tikka masala. Chicken was very tender and sauce was delicious to dip other parts of our meal in. The Chili lamb and biryani were just ok, I would get something else. I got a mango lassi which was fine too, not the best I've had but still good. Restaurant was completely empty when we arrived but expected given the hour; ordered the paneer szechwan full order; vegetable manchurian full order; onion kulcha; and Hakka noodles with chicken. Food came out fast; service was good and attentive; they were burning some sort of incense in the restaurant and the waiter had all these little LED candles light up after 630p; good amount of seating tho caution of there's one loud group you'll hear everything they say, so acoustics are a bit iffy if you're looking for cozy intimate conversation. Food was.... Ok. Not bad, but not the best I've had. Friend is Indian and I'm Chinese (Hakka Chinese actually) so one might say our combined powers make us fair judges of the food. We're not picky eaters, and honestly the intention of dinner was more to hang out/ catch up on each other's lives so quality of food wasn't the focus and didn't have to be amazing. The waiter had come back to "warn" us that the dishes we ordered were "very spicy" and we said it'd be fine; quite frankly, it was only a mild kick if even, so I'm not sure what the warning was about, since neither of us have any inkling of skin-shade resemblance to our milder tastebud human counterparts; one would think that with the word "szechwan" in the name of the dish, there'd be at least a hint of the infamous peppercorns even if mild somewhere in the dish, but nope, undetected, it was a bowl of very thin strangely bright red colored sauce where you have to dig to fetch out the pieces of paneer that didn't absorb any of the sauce; the vegetable manchurian was... not good, the sauce was salty, felt like the chef might have been a bit too heavy handed with dark soy sauce and dark vinegar. Bill total for the night pre tax: $61. Also, when we asked for the check the waiter initially gave us the check for a different table that was for $100. Make sure you review your bill carefully before paying. A careless mistake that really should be avoided. Will I be dining here again? Unlikely, given the abundance of choices for Indian food in the neighborhood. read more

Spice Symphony is delicious!! The samosas to start with so fluffy and tasty. I then ordered the rajma, which is a North Indian specialty, and it was so flavorful!! Really nice dish with nice spice. I eat a lot of Indian food, with Chana masala being my favorite dish. It's my staple order to test out a restaurant. This dish stole the show in terms of veg entrees. This is probably one of the best Chana masala's I've had as it has the proper richness, spice, and a little sweetness to it. It's comparable to my favorite one back in San Francisco. My family also recommends the tandoori spicy chicken wings to start and the chicken tikka masala! The only shortcoming was the Kheer, which was a little watery and bland. But if you are going to order dessert, make sure to try the malai kulfi!!! I haven't tried the Chinese options, so I can't speak to them (although I would love to try them next time), but Spice Symphony serves solid Indian food!! Hit up Spice Symphony with wifey on 2/18/25 for lunch. We got there at around 1:15, so we didn't get a chance to do the AYCE, we didn't eat fast enough to catch the 2pm cut off, I was disappointed, because I'm fat. Started off with avocado chicken, it was extremely flavorful. They gave us some chutney to dip and it was slamming. Next up for me was the tellicherri pepper chicken. It was really tender and flavorful, came with a side of rice and beans, it was just so good. Really spicy, cleared me up on a freezing day. Wifey had the lamb which was bomb also, not the best cut of meat, but it was so tasty. This restaurant lived up to its name, it brought the heat. The decor was cool, a little old school white tablecloth vibe but not really upscale, a calm spot. Might be my new favorite indian spot, still on the hunt for others. read more

Having heard my co-workers rave about the Indo-chinese street food they had back in India, I became determined to try out this historical fusion cuisine that originated from centuries of cultural exchange. Thus, on Sunday noon, a friend and I both arrived at Spice Symphony. The establishment was half-full (perhaps from the rain), so we received seating immediately. My friend and I decided on the following to share (all from the Indian Chinese section of the menu). - Paneer Chili Dry | $10 - Chicken Manchurian| $18 - Chili Chicken | $18 The first to arrive, the Paneer Chili Dry appetizer, consisted of, as the menu described, "strips of cottage cheese tossed with spicy chili, onion, green pepper, and soy". This tasted quite similar to spicy stir-fried tofu, which is in hindsight unsurprising. The onion's aromatic flavors seemed much more pronounced than in Chinese stir-fry. The spiciness seemed relatively subdued, but that did not detract. Both entree items arrived about 15 minutes after the appetizer. The Chili Chicken, accompanied with "green peppers, vidalia onions, soy, and fiery red chillies", had a similar flavor profile as the Paneer Chili Dry, with 2 notable exceptions. One is the chicken (duh), which tasted tender and juicy. The second is the decent amount of heat the chilies possessed, which would require a decent heat tolerance (for the average American). The second entree, the Chicken Manchurian, arrived in a "spicy tangy onion and soy based sauce". The menu description belied additional nuance in the sauce, notably tamarind. This made for a dish that looked ostensibly like soy sauce braised chicken, a ubiquitous dish in China. This one, however, had a much brighter set of flavors, especially with the extra-aromatic onions. If I had to choose between the soy sauce braising and pan sauce I grew up with and this, the Chicken Manchurian wins by a long shot. Overall, I enjoyed the opportunity to try a relatively unknown cuisine (at least in the states). The blend of familiar flavors, reimagined, managed to meld well and live up to the title of fusion cuisine, something that modern fusion cuisine struggles to accomplish. read more

But I've never seen a restaurant undermine the high quality of its food with pedestrian and almost aggressively indifferent service the way Spice Symphony does. Whether you dine in or order from them. And I hope Spice Symphony takes this as constructive criticism. Your service and general attention to detail in delivery is atrociously and arrogantly bad compared to your delicious food. If your attitude to customer service weren't so stubbornly lazy and arrogant, you'd have a Michelin star or two by now. We had to get full Indo-Chinese here, because where else would we get all these options in NYC?! Out of the two mains, we loved the Vegetarian Hakka Noodles, and weren't a big fan of the Paneer Szechuan, we may have made it too spicy for us when asked for the spice level, but also the paneer was a little tough. A big shout out to their front manager for letting me bring a surprise anniversary cake from outside for my parents and bringing it to our table at the end of our meal to make it a real surprise. For a buffet, I expected more variety and fresher options. The dessert was forgettable. Service was minimal with attitude from the main guy managing the place. First off I had the smallest gin and tonic ever, it was like a half shot with a splash of tonic in a little glass, but of course it was full price. I got the Kingfisher beer the rest of the night. The food was not so great if you like authentic Indian food, If you like Americanized and sweeter than it should be then this is the place for you. Chicken tikka masala and Lamb Rojan Josh are our staples. Both were overly sweet in taste and not spicy as all. it also looks like they use food coloring because the chicken was bright red and the lamb dish was also a muted red. The lamb should be a dark brown and the chicken should be slightly pink but not red as heavy cream is mixed in wit the tomato sauce to give it the color. Although the regular naan was good the garlic naan was overcooked. I live in Florida now but used to live in Manhattan. I tell people down here that the best Indian food in Florida is not as good as the worst Indian food in NY. I stand corrected. Suffice it to say I will not return. read more

So, we recently stayed at the San Carlos Hotel in New York City and we got in extremely early and decided to get an early jump on our adventures. We left our luggage with the hotel staff and beat the streets. Once we did that and were completely exhausted, we decided that we didn't want to eat out in a restaurant, but we wanted to bring something back to our room. Well, well, what do you know. The Spice Symphony restaurant is connected to the San Carlo Hotel through the hotel lobby. There are actually two Spice Symphony restaurants and we ordered food from the one located at 150 E. 50th St, NYC 10022. In the owners own words, "Spice Symphony is Indian food from different regions and Chinese food with Indian spices". The description is pretty apt. We were bone weary and it was too late to eat anything heavy, so we ordered the Chicken Manchow Soup and Chicken Springrolls. Yum, yum yum! A good soup just wraps you up in its arms and gives you a huggy hug. And the Chicken Springrolls were just a great accompaniment to the soup. We went to bed fully satisfied. We slept so well after that meal that we decided to go back again the next day for lunch. Me, my daughter Muff and my sister Luch ordered their lunch boxes. Seafood lunch box with Shrimp Moilee, Seafood lunch box with Salmon Tikka and the Chicken Tikka Masala Lunch box. Coconut milk, curry leaves, ginger, chilis and a number of various spices were indeed orchestrated into a wonderful melange of flavors and scents. I kept hearing about how Spice Symphony was one of the better spots for Indo-Chinese food in NYC, and finally made my way here for dinner with a friend. We started with the spinach chaat which was like a spinach pakoda with some tangy chutneys on top. Pretty good but the flavors weren't so spectacular or anything. For mains we had the paneer szechuan and veg manchurian. The veg manchurian was excellent - perfect texture and gravy, and paired perfectly with some garlic naan. We were warned the paneer szechuan would be quite spicy, but it definitely exceeded our spice expectations - I have pretty good tolerance, but don't take the warning lightly! Since we couldn't finish much of the paneer szechuan we added a gobhi manchurian dry which was also quite good in the gravy, but the gobhi itself could have been a little crispier I think. After some deliberations i recommended SP, that the Millennial kids agreed to! We ordered Vindaloo (came with rice), Bhuna Gosht (goat) and Tellicherri black pepper chicken. Goat, in American culture is not a staple food, its kind of lamb meat, leaner and not as distinctly smelly as lamb! I have been in SP a record 7 times! The place is a mecca of Indo-chinese fusion food. If you love spices and chinese food with a Garam Masala tarka, go to this place! I went here over the holidays, and I was amazed at how flavorful the food was. Literally everything we had here looked and tasted delicious. The vegetarian options were incredible. Definitely 5/5 for food. The reason that I'm rating this a 4 out of 5 is because the service was not great. We scheduled a reservation in advance and despite that, we had to wait almost an hour past our reservation time before we were even seated. This was true for multiple diners at the restaurant as well. There wasn't even an employee at the front door to check us in or give us an estimate on how long before we would be seated. What was even more frustrating was that a couple that arrived after us skipped the line and were seated before all of us despite everyone in line also having a reservation. Overall, I'm upset with the restaurant management, but will add that the service significantly improved the moment we were seated. read more

Achari mushrooms are very achari. The tang is there in decent amounts. Mushroom could have been cooked a tad more. Tandoori wings are grilled on charcoal and hence the beautiful flavor.
