PROs- location , lunch specials are priced ok . CONs - crazy spice . Pricey mostly First timer . I have eaten in so many different restaurants in Lexington and wanted to try spice symphony. Good location as this place is in heart of Lexington . Very close to other restaurants around . They give the general menu first and I was almost about to order when I asked them - "do you have lunch special menu" and then they give you, only if you ask . They tried to upsell their regular menu. Ordered a goat thali for lunch . I asked them for spice level and they said medium or high. I was ok with medium spice level but they made it so spicy . Spice is fine with me as long as it doesn't taste like red chili. The taste got overwritten by spice . I couldn't taste the goat masala .. disappointing stuff .. the starter chicken dish was really good . Perfect spice on the starter . Gulab jamun was good too. Service could be bettter .. guy looked like he didn't want to serve :). They also had a small bar .. disappointing experience. With 4.2 in Google I expected better . Wanted to give 2 stars but gave it a 3 star

Garlic Naan, saag paneer, chicken vindaloo, Indian Chinese Hakka Noodles
Esther C.

We made a reservation for dinner during a weekday evening and were seated right away upon arrival for a party of 3. I was really curious about the Indo Chinese concept so we ordered the vegetarian Hakka noodles, garlic naan, saag paneer, lamb biryani and chicken vindaloo. Maybe my expectations for Asian food is extremely high but the Hakka noodles were mediocre for me, it tasted pretty bland and did not have enough flavor distinction. The Indian food was better, my favorite was the lamb biryani and garlic naan in terms of flavor. The chicken vindaloo is super spicy which is to be expected and the saag paneer was on the blander side as well. Service was great as our water glasses were constantly filled throughout the meal. Portion sizes are also good for the prices. I would come back and try some other dishes if craving Indian food in the area.

Chicken 65 on the left, chicken tikka masala in the orange sauce, chili lamb on top right.

A group of us came in on a Sunday night. It's a nice ambience somewhere between casual and a bit more upper scale with the low lighting and music in the background. Everyone was dressed casually and that seemed to fit the vibe fine. We ordered: - Goat Biryani -Chicken 65 - Stuffed Cheese Naan - Chili Lamb -Chicken Tikka Masala - mango lassi Total: $123 The Chicken 65 was not on the menu but there is a note on the bottom of the menu that if you don't see your favorite dish you can request it. It was amazing! The Stuffed Cheese Naan was also great as well as the chicken tikka masala. Chicken was very tender and sauce was delicious to dip other parts of our meal in. The Chili lamb and biryani were just ok, I would get something else. I got a mango lassi which was fine too, not the best I've had but still good. Overall I thought it was good if you're in the area and want Indian-Chinese fusion but I think there are alternative options in NYC that are better and more affordable.

Vegetable Manchurian Full Order, Paneer Szechwan Full Order, Onion Kulcha, Hakka noodles with chicken
Justin T.

Friday early dinner for 2 at 6pm. Restaurant was completely empty when we arrived but expected given the hour; ordered the paneer szechwan full order; vegetable manchurian full order; onion kulcha; and Hakka noodles with chicken. Food came out fast; service was good and attentive; they were burning some sort of incense in the restaurant and the waiter had all these little LED candles light up after 630p; good amount of seating tho caution of there's one loud group you'll hear everything they say, so acoustics are a bit iffy if you're looking for cozy intimate conversation. Food was.... Ok. Not bad, but not the best I've had. Friend is Indian and I'm Chinese (Hakka Chinese actually) so one might say our combined powers make us fair judges of the food. We're not picky eaters, and honestly the intention of dinner was more to hang out/ catch up on each other's lives so quality of food wasn't the focus and didn't have to be amazing. The waiter had come back to "warn" us that the dishes we ordered were "very spicy" and we said it'd be fine; quite frankly, it was only a mild kick if even, so I'm not sure what the warning was about, since neither of us have any inkling of skin-shade resemblance to our milder tastebud human counterparts; one would think that with the word "szechwan" in the name of the dish, there'd be at least a hint of the infamous peppercorns even if mild somewhere in the dish, but nope, undetected, it was a bowl of very thin strangely bright red colored sauce where you have to dig to fetch out the pieces of paneer that didn't absorb any of the sauce; the vegetable manchurian was... not good, the sauce was salty, felt like the chef might have been a bit too heavy handed with dark soy sauce and dark vinegar. Bill total for the night pre tax: $61. Also, when we asked for the check the waiter initially gave us the check for a different table that was for $100. Make sure you review your bill carefully before paying. A careless mistake that really should be avoided. Will I be dining here again? Unlikely, given the abundance of choices for Indian food in the neighborhood.

Samosas

Spice Symphony is delicious!! The samosas to start with so fluffy and tasty. I then ordered the rajma, which is a North Indian specialty, and it was so flavorful!! Really nice dish with nice spice. I eat a lot of Indian food, with Chana masala being my favorite dish. It's my staple order to test out a restaurant. This dish stole the show in terms of veg entrees. This is probably one of the best Chana masala's I've had as it has the proper richness, spice, and a little sweetness to it. It's comparable to my favorite one back in San Francisco. My family also recommends the tandoori spicy chicken wings to start and the chicken tikka masala! The only shortcoming was the Kheer, which was a little watery and bland. But if you are going to order dessert, make sure to try the malai kulfi!!! I haven't tried the Chinese options, so I can't speak to them (although I would love to try them next time), but Spice Symphony serves solid Indian food!! Such flavorful, AUTHENTIC dishes, that are perfect for sharing. The service was super quick and attentive. This spot is really cozy and serves awesome lunch specials. I love how it's a balance of being a nice spot, without being crazy "trendy" compared to other Indian restaurants in NYC. It has quality food with great prices and portions. Overall, I had a great time and can't wait to return :)

So this place has one of the best INDO-Chinese in the city. Very much authentic. Was making my friends try it for the first time and am glad it was superb. We tried chicken manchurin and fried rice and loved it- Also loveddd their chicken corn soup. Will defo go back for Indo chinese cravingsss. Servers are really nice and helpful.

Paneer Chili Dry
Justin S.

Having heard my co-workers rave about the Indo-chinese street food they had back in India, I became determined to try out this historical fusion cuisine that originated from centuries of cultural exchange. Thus, on Sunday noon, a friend and I both arrived at Spice Symphony. The establishment was half-full (perhaps from the rain), so we received seating immediately. My friend and I decided on the following to share (all from the Indian Chinese section of the menu). - Paneer Chili Dry | $10 - Chicken Manchurian| $18 - Chili Chicken | $18 The first to arrive, the Paneer Chili Dry appetizer, consisted of, as the menu described, "strips of cottage cheese tossed with spicy chili, onion, green pepper, and soy". This tasted quite similar to spicy stir-fried tofu, which is in hindsight unsurprising. The onion's aromatic flavors seemed much more pronounced than in Chinese stir-fry. The spiciness seemed relatively subdued, but that did not detract. Both entree items arrived about 15 minutes after the appetizer. The Chili Chicken, accompanied with "green peppers, vidalia onions, soy, and fiery red chillies", had a similar flavor profile as the Paneer Chili Dry, with 2 notable exceptions. One is the chicken (duh), which tasted tender and juicy. The second is the decent amount of heat the chilies possessed, which would require a decent heat tolerance (for the average American). The second entree, the Chicken Manchurian, arrived in a "spicy tangy onion and soy based sauce". The menu description belied additional nuance in the sauce, notably tamarind. This made for a dish that looked ostensibly like soy sauce braised chicken, a ubiquitous dish in China. This one, however, had a much brighter set of flavors, especially with the extra-aromatic onions. If I had to choose between the soy sauce braising and pan sauce I grew up with and this, the Chicken Manchurian wins by a long shot. Overall, I enjoyed the opportunity to try a relatively unknown cuisine (at least in the states). The blend of familiar flavors, reimagined, managed to meld well and live up to the title of fusion cuisine, something that modern fusion cuisine struggles to accomplish.

Palak Panerr lunch special and coŕiander soup.
Evan R.

It's been a few years, but they still got it. Just got the lunch special with Palak Paneer and a Coriander Soup. All were properly spiced, India style, too hot for most tourists. Reminded me big time of when I lived in South India. The Lunch Special comes with Rajma and Naan and Rice. Also a great not too sweet Kheer.

This place is a hidden gem! The lunch special is outrageous. I posted the menu to this review - there are so many options for everyone and it is so well priced! ALL YOU CAN EAT INDIAN FOOD for less than $20 in Manhattan?? I'm honestly shocked this isn't on every lunch deal website ever. Great laid back ambiance and very kind and attentive staff. Fast service. No complaints at all.

Himani M.

Spice Symphony comes through with all the Indian Chinese options. We got a complementary appetizer to start, which was delicious! Also highly recommend the coriander soup!! We had to get full Indo-Chinese here, because where else would we get all these options in NYC?! Out of the two mains, we loved the Vegetarian Hakka Noodles, and weren't a big fan of the Paneer Szechuan, we may have made it too spicy for us when asked for the spice level, but also the paneer was a little tough. A big shout out to their front manager for letting me bring a surprise anniversary cake from outside for my parents and bringing it to our table at the end of our meal to make it a real surprise. Great hospitality and service!

The special lunches come with a little fried rice, cold garlic flavored noodle, choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, and main side. My buddies all enjoyed their meals. The beef chow fun was also really good and beef was nice and tender. The xiao long baos were excellent and is comparable to any place in California like DTF. I hadn't been to EDH in a while and was happy to see they do have later hours (with a smaller late night menu). The place was pretty busy at 10:00 PM last Saturday, with a wide range of diners, which is good for business. The food though, at least that night, was really disappointing. My friend had the chicken dumplings. He said they were okay. I thought they were overcooked. My steamed shrimp shumai were fine, but steamed, they didn't have much flavour. The edamame, on the other hand, had way too much when it should have almost none. I don't know if it was excess salt, MSG or something else, but not good. I should have sent them back. I hope this was just an off night for the kitchen.

The pacing of the meal for the quantity of food received seemed very rushed, and we didn't really have a chance to relax and enjoy any of the courses. However, the quality of the experience was a complete disaster particularly for the price. Clearly, the packed restaurant would disagree, but for the four of us anyway, we would not return. It started with the check in process at what felt like a long hotel front desk with multiple, self important hosts and hostesses overseeing your entrance to the cavernous bar/waiting area. One problem is the noise is so deafening that you can't really hear what they say to you but we check in a few minutes early and waited obediently in the bar area chatting. After about 30 minutes (15 after our reservation time), and watching numerous parties large and small who arrived after us be seated by the hostesses wandering through the dimly lit space who peer quizzically and ask your name, my husband went to ask for an update. (We joked that those vibrating lighted buzzers alerting when your table was ready would have been super helpful, but it was amusing to watch while we waited). It was clear they somehow lost track of us as she had him repeatedly spell our (not unusual) name. Anyway, after that, within 10 minutes after that we were taken downstairs to our seats (but not before standing awkwardly in the large dining area near packed tables waiting while our table was cleaned). Server with a heavy accent was kind and mostly helpful so none of this is on him. The busser who managed to spill half a pitcher of cold water on my husband's back, soaking his shirt and jacket and barely apologizing, is a whole other story. We managed to get a glass of his mediocre Cabernet comped for the experience. If I sound annoyed, I guess I still am. I had high hopes for a fun and tasty experience in a cool part of the city and it just wasn't.

Then we got a handful of apps - everyone else swore by all the ones they'd had - but I just tried the Salt & Pepper Shrimp and... sweet baby Jesus, this little plate had a wicked amount of flavor from every angle.  "Aggressively seasoned" might be an understatement.  Wild. Onto the mains and I ventured towards their Spicy Drunken Noodle (my go-to whenever I'm hitting a Thai restaurant on my home turf) and... yeah, you probably guessed it - incredible. Not the biggest portion but they made every single component sing with flavor. With so much going on - of course I needed to indulge with another drink (hey, I wasn't driving!). There were six of us, it came to about $100 a person... welcome to NYC. But we did get a wide selection of plates/food and those two drinks accounted for about $40 of my tab. (And you'll never see such a heavy wine pour at a restaurant... they filled the glass almost to the rim - which was not even something I'd do for myself when I'm home.) Definitely recommended.
