I ordered the marinated pork chops that I used to love and ate them every time. But today one piece was all bone and the 2nd piece was mostly bone which explains why I was unable to cut it. Barely ate any pork. Also they tasted allot like freezer burn and they didn't taste fresh. They were precooked and extremely dry. I was very disappointed. Not sure if I'll come back again. Four years later tried to give them another chance after my first terrible experience because everyone told me it could have just been a one time thing. Tried to call the establishment to make a reservation twice with no answer. Made a reservation online and followed up with a phone call a few hours later as I was skeptical they would allow a reservation of over 10 people on opentable. The person on the phone confirmed. This was about a week and half ago. My mind was put to peace until they cancelled my reservation on me today. For this Saturday. 4 days before my 25th birthday dinner. No phone just an email. This was my first time here at this restaurant and overall I would say that it was a pretty decent experience. If it was possible I would've rated this experience a 3.72. So technically it was closer to four stars than three stars. We were seated pretty quickly. The aura in the spot was very chill and serene. It's the perfect date spot for you and your partner to stop by on a nice Friday night. Nice and cozy with dim lights. The drink was amazing as well. However, when it comes to the food when comparing to other Thai food places it isn't quite as good. It's very possible that I would also just choose something that was not as great ! I've been a fan of Spice for over five years now. I think this was my introduction into thai food when it was first starting to get popular in the city. I remember everyone from high school coming here for special events like birthdays. I haven't visited since then until recently. I came after trying thai at a multitude of other restaurants and this place still remains superior. In the past I'd always get the pad Thai with tofu or shrimp. It was always beautifully presented. The tofu was never seared that well so it was a little bland so this time I chose the mock duck when I ordered by red thunder fried rice. This rice was delicious! It wasn't spicy at all, nor did it have a tomato flavor. But it was beyond a simple fried rice. The mock duck sealed the deal for me. The chef had taken time to sear it and give it some flavor. It had absorbed a lot of the flavors from the rice and you could eat it on its own! My one suggestion would be to make the chunks smaller to get it to be more crispy. My bf got the drunken noodles with chicken and shrimp. It was good but he liked my rice better. For him, the flavors were nothing new and could be found at any restaurant. Beautifully presented though. For our appetizers, we got the Asian fish taco. I'm not sure what kind of fish they used but it had a strong fishy taste to it. I prefer cod or halibut. The spicy mayo sauce was amazing though and the bun was super soft! We also got the crab Rangoon which we loved! You could actually see the crab inside and it wasn't just cream cheese. It came with a sweet chili dipping sauce. We got our food rather quickly which we appreciated. There was a hostess who was also clearing dishes and bringing out food. I ordered yesterday and I should never have eaten it, but I'm a fat pig, so what can you do? The lettuce was rancid and the chicken looked like road kill--it was giving Ryan Murphy American Horror Story. Long (horror) story short, I started throwing up around midnight and didn't stop til 8am. It's really unfortunate because I love my luxury bedding and I don't know if the stains will ever come out. I've been going to Spice for a long time, starting in the early 2000s when they were in a different location a few blocks south. It's always been a solid lunch option and continues to be. I came by today around 2pm and the service was fast and attentive. I'm impressed that the prices are still so low for the lunch special given how expensive NYC has gotten: you can still get an appetizer and entree for under $20. I had the chicken/shrimp dumplings and grilled salmon entree and I think it came to around $20 with the tax/tip. All of the food was great. Way to go, Spice! read more

Great spot!! I was walking by on my way to an account and their big red sign caught my eye so I stopped to review the sign in the window that was advertising their excellent happy hour specials. Since I am working and it's too early for that, this led me to their menu posted by the door where I discovered the interesting menu and lunch specials. I selected the 'vegetable wok holy basil' which included a complimentary appetizer choice. I opted for the seafood Tom yum soup. Both were excellent - packed with flavor and the Tom yum soup did not leave me searching for one small lonely shrimp in the bottom of the bowl. The flavorful citrus spice broth was loaded with shrimp, octopus and calamari. All of this goodness for just $10!! Casual friendly and quick service. Definitely some interesting items on the menu that could be worth a try for you. I made my order to go, and was glad with how quickly I received my stuff. Rating the food: I ordered with the lunch special and chose the Salmon chili that comes with a "free" appetizer which I chose the seafood tum yum soup. The salmon was cooked pretty good, although I felt it was slightly overcooked, and the seasoning was just ok. The tum yum soup was pretty good, but wasn't blown away or anything like that. The lunch came with white rice which was perfectly cooked, no issues there. Overall, I'd say my experience was ok, and the price for the lunch special was worth a try. Would I try this place again, maybe...but I'm not running back here either. If your looking for decent Thai food at a reasonable price, and you happen to come across this place, then I'd say give it a go. read more

I loved the Tom Yum Soup. It was sour but not too sour. It wuda been perfect with some hot sauce but it was still pretty damn good. It came with shrimp & squid. The Thai tea was really good. We came here on a Tuesday night and got seated right away. This place has a dope vibe without all the fuss. We were able to be casual. The Thai Breeze was flavorful but still strong enough for my liking. The duck was so delicious and crispy. The curry had a little kick to it but was so well flavored. The service was fast and the staff were friendly and non-invasive. Two meals, a drink, tax and tip came out to $70 which is pretty good for this neighborhood. We will definitely be back! read more

Two people, Two appetizers and Two entrées for $20.69 (tip not included). Sometimes you are made to feel a bit rushed and that can take away from savoring the extra spice you requested in your Drunk Man Noodles. This particular locations can also feel cramped, you will become real cozy and involved in the convo of the table next to you. So, I recommend not to reveal any secret passcodes while dinning. Stopped in for a quick bite before seeing a show nearby. There was a wait for table seating, so my girlfriend and I sat at the bar. She ordered a specialty cocktail while I stuck with plain old water. For a starter, we ordered the wings ($8.50), which the kitchen whipped up quickly. They arrived hot, crispy, and coated in a delicious sweet and spicy sauce. No holding back, we rapidly devoured all seven wings. I highly recommend this appetizer. Next, an order of, as Spice calls it, "drunk man noodles" (pad kee mow), with chicken ($14). The dish arrived steaming hot in a metal bowl, a mixture of bell peppers, onions, noodles, and chicken, prepared with a tasty sauce. Once again, I couldn't help but eat and eat and eat. The bar service was speedy and efficient. We were out the door with ample time to stroll to the concert. This is one of the better Spice location. I've been to the one at LIC, smith street in Brooklyn, and 4th Ave (before it closed down) and this has better flavors. They have 2 floors and gets crowded during the evening. If you come in a group, they won't seat you until your everyone in your party arrives. The staff is not that friendly and attentive. I really like their lunch because it comes with an appetizer and an entree ranging from $8-$11. This is city price lunch and you definitely will get your value out of it. My favorites are shrimp fritters, dumplings, and chicken wrap for appetizer and pork chop with coconut sticky rice ($2.50 extra) and pad see ew. My favorite spot to go with my best friend! I love how friendly the servers are with their warm greeting and smiles. The atmosphere is dimmed and just overall a comfortable setting. The foods are amazing. I love to order one of my favorite appetizers, which is the shrimp shumai and I love to get the Pad Thai fried rice, Red Thunder or Siamese fried rice with any choice of meat. This place can be anywhere from average to below average. But definitely isn't a 4 out of 5. Ever. It's a 3/5. At best. If you're craving Thai food and for whatever reason this is the only place that's around, then I'd say give it a try, but don't expect it to blow your mind or anything. I got the usual pad thai (extra spicy). They delivered on the extra spicy part which I appreciate! I love spicy. In terms of flavor, it was alright? Average, decent, nothing out of the ordinary. The free appetizer that comes with the meal is meh, whatever. Nice to have but it isn't anything special. The only negative thing worth writing about (for me) is how close the tables are to one another.....they definitely need to be spaced out more but maybe they just wanted to have more tables? This time around, the food was unfortunately a miss. I came here on a Friday for lunch and was seated downstairs. The lunch special was well priced for an appetizer and an entree. I picked the golden fritters (minced shrimp and chicken with sweet chili sauce) to start and the drunk man noodles with shrimp. The golden fritters were fine, although I would rather try something else next time. The drunk man noodles were overly salty and spicy so the water was much needed to help wash them down. Finished the noodles but not the veggies in the end. I'm giving this restaurant 4 stars despite not enjoying lunch this time, because I do enjoy going here for dinner and have ordered better tasting entrees in the past (go for the massaman curry!). read more

I've eaten at several Thai restaurant around NYC which have soo much more flavor and you can feel the fusion of the spices merge together in your dish, however that's not the case at Spice. This chain restaurant to me is a bit overpriced for the lack of food it serves. This particular location the customer service is inconsistent. They seem more pressed to get the food out and get to the next table. I had asked the waiter for the ingredients to a dish and was unable to speak on it along with another question later asked and still didn't know. Good sized filling of chicken that was spicy and flavorful. The beef dish was certainly filling. It has a very subtle heat that creeps up on you well after you've finished your meal. Be very careful. I ordered the curry puffs appetizer and the lemongrass chicken breast entree. On the menu, it said the curry puffs was "Chicken, potatoes, onions with cucumber salsa". When I got home and took it bite, it tasted more like a sweet potato dessert than an appetizer. It was too damn sweet. I could barely taste the onions, (if they even had any in it), and barely any chicken. Then the outside LOOKED crispy but it was actually chewy and doughy just like the inside. It didn't taste cooked all the way through. I didn't even bother eating the other two once I bit halfway into the first one and I tasted dough. The lemongrass chicken breast was no better. Soggy julienned carrots and brown soggy lettuce drowning in sauce on the bottom of the lemongrass chicken breast. All around disgusted. I don't even know what was more disgusting; the fact that I paid $30 bucks for soggy, undercooked food, or the food itself. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more
