Spero Spera is a really decent coffee place that worth me to spend hours in it and relax. My boyfriend and I ordered potato salami and mix avocado sandwich, they both taste awesome and healthy, the avocado are perfect with my sandwich, potato salami were savory also. This place feels very warm and friendly because of the decoration and the servers, which I believe they are the owners base on the drawing on the wall. I would totally come back again. read more

Spero Spera's customer service is horribly unprofessional. My friends and I were first-time customers to the cafe and decided that it will also be our last. I ordered a non-dairy Avocado Banana Smoothie on the afternoon of Thursday, August 3, 2017. Upon taking a sip of my smoothie, to my surprise, it was disgustingly sour. Being discontent, I told the woman cashiering that my smoothie was sour. She then told me that there were lemons blended into my smoothie. I sat back down on their table and was puzzled. I'm not accustomed to having lemons in a smoothie; and I expected the ordered smoothie to taste like avocado and banana. My friends and I analyzed the situation. They tried the smoothie, and agreed that it had an unpleasant taste. Was it my fault for not asking the smoothie's ingredients? Or was it the business's fault for not listing their ingredients on their menu? Regardless, I was not happy. My friend and I went back to the woman registering, to request for a replacement. With a loud and fast-paced voice, the woman told us that we would have to purchase a new drink. Evidently irritated, the woman continued to repeat herself, that a new drink had to be re-purchased. Then abruptly, a man (most likely the owner) took the smoothie from my friend, got $7 from the cash register, handed it to my friend, and rudely said "Here. Go!" My friends and I politely left the business. Despite the refund, my friends and I were disrespected and worst, embarrassed in front of other customers. In addition to their discourteous attitude, it is clear that there was a language-barrier. It is unfortunate that such circumstance occurred. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, especially if you want to build a positive rapport for your business. In result of this terrible experience, Spero Spera will not be receiving any future business from me and my friends; instead they will be receiving a 1-Star on this Yelp review. read more

Really nice quiet place to study. The food is amazing - I tried the garlic steak sandwich and the tomato bisque. The mocha drinks are great too - I think I had a vanilla mocha. There's free wifi and lots of places to plug in your laptop. It's also very clean and has a fun environment and decor. read more

Adorable place to come with friends or pick up a delicious & healthy sandwich. Their coffee & sodas are very good too! You won't be disappointed. LOOOOOVE This Place! Sandwiches are DELICIOUS! Avocado something amazing and the eggplant sandwich was great as well. Comes with a coffee, next time I want to try one of thier teas or juices but their coffee was really good. The atmosphere is so sweet, full of love all of the decoration is handpainted by members of the family that owns it, and great reading material provided not that you need it the wait for food wasn't bad at all, and totally worth every second because did I mention its DELICIOUS! yes? ok well some things bear repeating . nestled in an unattractive little nook on young street, an amazing little cafe. this cafe has great coffee and tasty sandwiches. we had the avocado sandwich (avocado, bacon, sauce, wheat bread, veggies, cole slaw) and the garlic veggie sandwich. our fav was the former. big enough to split and only 8 bucks with a salad with greens, carot, and ginger, (included was the coffee) this sandwich was one of the best deli sandwiches i've had. the place is owned and staffed by a korean family and they are very friendly and make their customers feel appreciated. the interior is the total opposite of the gritty parking lot and building outside. beautiful on the inside. is this a literal take on a metaphor? read more

I've been wanting to go here for a while so when my friends decided to come here of course I'd want to come! Normally, I'm not a sandwich person at all, but the sandwiches here are not just any old sandwich, they're full of veggies and there's more inside goodness than bread (which is always a plus). I tried the Mixed Avocado. Though there wasn't as much avocado in it as I expected, I was surprised when it came with salad and a potato. It was also nice that the man behind the counter rounded down when I was paying. Instead of giving me 82 cents back, he just gave me the full dollar! Cons: There's no trash can that I could see, so I wasn't sure what to do with my trash... Also apparently some people got a free drink with their sandwich?? I had to dish out a few more dollars for a drink to go with it maybe they stopped doing it? I'm not so sure about this. read more

Went to this coffee shop today called Spero Spera today. While the coffee was fantastic(I had the Spero Spera black), the atmosphere was calming and tranquil, and the food looked tasty... The best thing was the name. Wait the name... Don't get me wrong here as it is now my favorite coffee place in Honolulu. anyways the name translates to "As long as I breathe, there is hope". I loved this place. From the outside it looks a little sketchy and run down, but when we went in it was a pleasant surprise! A nice little cafe. It felt so cozy and welcoming. The food was delicious, but different from anything I have ever tried. I got a mixed tomato sandwich and loved it. Update: First a disclaimer: I'm not Korean, have not been to Korea, and this is my only (known) experience of a Korean-owned cafe. I'm a foodie, in the sense that I'm practically a food snob. I eat organic, free-range, no msg, and no chemical preservative (highly processed) foods. And fancy cheese. Don't hate. I got the mixed avacado. They do use dishware, but no reusable mugs. Bring your own. I wanted to try the sandwiches because of the amazing reviews, but was hesitant because of things like "american cheese" that came with the sandwich, and the likelihood of the sandwich not living up to my usual standards of organic, free-range, etc. I understand that's not a concern for many. So, the review: Sandwiches come with a choice of chips or organic salad greens, and a couple spears of potato. Colossal sandwich. Worth the $10. Beautiful presentation. If it weren't wrapped so nicely this sandwich would be super messy to eat, which is a huge plus in my book. Double plus for the no mess. Great service (they are soo sooo soooo friendly. and they bring you your food). Comes with a free small cup of house coffee (I think the house coffee is hazelnut flavored). This is meant as a sincere compliment: If I was high (and wasn't concerned with organic/free-range), happened to have these ingredients, and had the patience to assemble all the parts, this is real contender for a sandwich I would dream up. You know what I'm talking about. You've got layers of color, layers of texture, warm toasted bread and cool creamy filling. (whole wheat bread, an egg mixture thing, thin tender slices of bacon, very thin slices of ham, sweet pickles, coleslaw with a demi-thousand-island dressing, thick layer of finely grated carrots, avocado, sprouts) Perfect proportions. It just barely fits in your mouth, and it's not a snack-as-you-study kind of food. You need to be prepared to dedicate some time to enjoy this, which is great. You need a study break, anyway. The organic salad greens it came with was tossed in a light ginger balsamic vinaigrette and had sliced almonds and chilled julienned carrots (cooked). It'd be great if they offered a large portion of the salad on the menu as a meal option. The one thing I would like to change about that meal was the potato spears. They came chilled. I like em warm, and cooked a bit longer. It'd be great if they were baked potato wedges. Speaking of additions to the menu I would love love love to see some kim chi. Next door is a Korean restaurant, so I guess out of respect for their business Spero Spera doesn't want to compete with their menu. But a kim chi sandwich/burger/wrap would be fantastic. Also, offering half-sandwiches would be wonderful. And vegan choices. Will I get the sandwich again? No, only because of my personal requirements/beliefs about food. Hey, I put the disclaimer about food snobbery. Do I recommend the sandwich to those who don't care about organic, etc. etc. etc.? Emphatic yes. Will I be back? Yes, the atmosphere and quiet is peaceful and allows me to concentrate, and the patrons aren't loud yappers. Hint-hint, to any new-goers. Plus the wi-fi, and clean not creepy bathroom. Every time I visit this cute and cozy cafe, I ask myself why I don't come here all the time. And then I forget about it for a good 6 months or so. This time, Spero Spera has won me over and I'll come here as a regular customer from now on. This place is good for a nice relaxing lunch or a coffee drink with a Korean twist, but it really shines as a study spot. While they have multiple signs encouraging every customer to order at least 1 menu item for themselves, they are anything but stingy. Portions are mostly generous. I usually order the Mixed Avocado sandwich, which is filled with so many ingredients I'm not really sure I know everything inside of it. And my favorite part about this place is the unlimited free wifi! There's no time limit like at other "study spot" cafes with sandwiches (Coughkissatencoughcough). You can also find seats pretty easily, instead of hoping and fighting for empty tables. The seats are also pretty comfy, which makes those 4 hour study sessions more bearable. Finally, they have the free coffee with every meal service which is just another way they support the studious student. To top it off, the ajusshi and ajumma who own the shop are super friendly and make you feel at home. Parking is usually tight, and today I noticed a 2-hour parking limit sign for the first time. I also saw a sign saying that the owner will valet park your car for free(?!), not sure if it's legit. But this hole-in-the-wall place is definitely worth going to the next time you have a long project to work on. Wifi, comfy seats, relaxed atmosphere, and yummy sandwiches. Great mom and pop place. Reasonably priced sandwiches since they also come with complimentary coffee. The "mom" is sweet, place is spotless, free wifi. Only thing that sucks is the parking lot - it's tiny and there's a 2 hr "limit." But you can't really fault or ding them for the parking lot since that's beyond their control. Tip - go with the salad instead of chips with the sandwich. Dressing is good and is a nice compliment to the sandwich. read more

As other have mentioned, don't let the entrance keep you hesitant, walk right in and you will find yourself in a well thought out cafe. Everything you wanted in a cafe is right here, with a loft on top of the kitchen to give that extra cozy feeling. The food is similarly well thought out. You get a complete, nutritious meal. Why? You get a sandwich with a little meat, generous melted mozzarella, a good portion salad with a great dressing, and a couple big slices of baked potato for that little extra fill! The owners thought of everything. You even get a cup of coffee with the meal. You have to be patient with parking, but the owner will watch over your car if you need to double park. This is a wonderful cafe tucked in an otherwise sketchy part of Young Street. The atmosphere is calming, and generally conducive to soft conversation or studying. I've only sampled their drinks, which have been tasty, though their food looks appetizing -- mostly sandwiches. The owners are Korean and sweet. At first I was a bit skeptical of the place because of the area, but when I went inside it was like Narnia. I went here and I had no problems with noise volume, probably because it wasn't very busy that day. Sandwiches range from 8-12$, and drinks are about 3-5$, which get pretty pricey but is worth it. (They leave out free tea at the bottom floor) The sandwiches are well packed and they present it on a plate with either salad or chips. I ordered a lot they asked if I was sure I wanted that much food and saying it seemed a little pricey but I said it was okay. At least they care about you.
