I purchased a boxer puppy in late 2024 from her and within 2 months realized he had issues. He would wet his bed as he was sleeping and just lay in it. I took him to the vet thinking he had a urinary infection and found out after taking him to multiple specialists that he had a congenital kidney issue. He was diagnosed at Mizzou Veterinary at 6 months old with kidney failure. My sweet boy ended up passing at 1 year and 8 months of kidney failure. I spent thousands and thousands of dollars trying to get him care and to prolong his life, but ultimately this was a case of a congenital issue. I reached out to Tammy multiple times and she offered an apology but that's about it. Per her puppy guarantee she never offered another free puppy and she never even asked to see his vet records. Looking back I am concerned with how flippant she treated this issue. I am concerned with her claiming she didn't know anything was wrong with the puppy she sold me, as he was urinating so much even at a very young age, there was clearly an issue. I am concerned with how many litters she has at one time and I am concerned she does not selectively breed her dogs. I am also concerned that she does not show the buyer the parents or their living quarters. She has multiple litters with the same dame or stud multiple multiple times a year. She was still breeding the same parents that produced my boy and his failing kidneys which was a congenital issue! He lived a painful horrible life in kidney failure since birth. She loves to fight back in these reviews and argue which again shows me that will not take responsibility for the sick dogs she breeds. I would look into other options for a boxer puppy and save yourself a lot of heartbreak. She is threatening me with lawsuits for leaving this review. read more

Our experience with Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel was nothing short of fantastic. Tammy was more than happy to answer all of our emails before we selected which puppy we would like. We were driving down from Minnesota to go pick up our puppy but were concerned about the amount of time it would take us, so Tammy offered to meet us halfway for a small fee (which honestly was much cheaper than what we would have paid for in gas and hotels). We met in Kansas City to pick up our pup and given a bunch of information along with him. He has been very healthy and very very energetic since (it's been at least several months since). My new puppy gets compliments every time we walk him on how beautiful he is too. Tammy has also been nice enough to answer any questions we've had since with tips on training him. BUYER BEWARE - "SHADY" being the key word here. Of course, we cant test our pup because you cant test dogs and get accurate information. My husband and I bought Gypsy a year ago. When meeting for pick up, Gypsy looked like a normal English Mastiff. As she started getting older we noticed some things that really made us start questioning the breeding going on at Shady Grove. Somewhere in her blood line she has boxer in her. We bought Gypsy as 100% pure bred English Mastiff. At some point we feel that these people tried breeding boxers and mastiff. Gypsy has the head and ears of a boxer. Several friends and her vet along with 5 other vets at her clinic has made comments that she is not pure bred. Not good business practice folks. read more

We got our baby, Jasper, from Spencer's last summer and he is the love of my life. We looked around and interviewed a number of Boxer breeders before we decided on Spencer's and we were very happy with their communication, positive testimonials, and breeding program. We flew into Springfield and drove back to Florida with our pup. The parents were on site and the Spencer's are great. Jasper is almost a year and a half now. We bought our boxer, Phoebe, from Tammy w/Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel from Cabool MO., last March. My husband drove from the heart of the Rocky Mountains (Buena Vista CO) to pick her up (about 14-15 hours). Phoebe was pretty small so Tammy kept her a little longer so she was healthy enough to come to our home. Tammy was great about sending me daily pictures and videos to this over protective mommy :) Tammy was very honest and open with all questions regarding the history of Phoebe's bloodline (and believe me I had a lot of questions)!!! Now that Phoebe is 1 year old we are getting ready to discuss purchasing a male boxer from Tammy from a different bloodline so we can someday have puppies of our own (when Phoebe is 2):) I would recommend Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel for a very professional, caring and trustworthy experience to purchase a boxer puppy for a wonderful addition to your family! First I want to the Spencer's for the amazing boxer dogs we have had for almost 3 years now. They have been a great addition to our family! They were very well cared for and healthy as can be when we picked them up and have no problems since. We got our sweet boxer, Sora from Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel and we just love her SO MUCH!! We live in Denver, Colorado, so we roadtripped almost 12 hours to pick her up from Tammy. Sora was a runt of the litter, and Tammy and the folks at Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel took extra care of her! They sent us updates and photos often and even kept her an extra couple weeks at no charge, because she was still too tiny to leave her mom. Their gorgeous property almost made me want to move to MO - what a beautiful, huge space for puppies and dogs to grow up. A puppies dream, for sure. When we arrived to pick up our Sora girl, we had lots of questions, and all of them were answered before we left. I can't stress enough how much these folks CARE about their dogs and puppies. True dog people, that's for sure. All and all, it was a wonderful experience and now we have a perfect little boxer baby that adds so much joy, energy, and personality to our family. ****BUYER BEWARE**** There are many options out there for breeders, please read our family's story below before you consider Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel. We want to make other family's aware of our TERRIBLE experience with Mrs. Spencer and Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel and the fact that she has not lived up to her puppy health guarantee. Make the best choice for your family, when considering the purchase of a puppy, we highly recommend you choose to go with another breeder. On 12/19/2015 we purchased a female Boxer puppy for $850 dollars from Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel, Cabool, MO. The puppy was 8 weeks old. The morning of 12/26/16, exactly one week later, she presented with sudden onset symptoms of pain and decreased activity with no history of trauma. We instantly contacted our vet and had her come do a thorough exam that day. Since she was alert and ambulatory and was eating/drinking/urinating/defecating normally our vet recommended kennel rest and 7-10 days of Carprofen to help with pain. Unfortunately no improvement was noted. After a week off the medication and still no improvement, we brought her to the vets office on 1/13/2016 for additional testing. It was at this time we contacted Mrs. Spencer to see if any of the parents or siblings of our puppy had any neck or spine issues. She immediately started accusing our family of causing trauma to the puppy and insisted there was no way it could be due to any genetic issues.The vet performed a full CBC along with cervical radiographs under sedation. A review by the radiologist noted "the caudal aspect of C3 may have a lesion and if no improvement with medical therapy would recommend a neuorological evaluation, CT scan and CSF tap for definitive diagnosis." This would be at a cost of $1500+, which we were unable to afford, for all this additional testing for a puppy we had owned less than 30 days. At the recommendation of the vet, we decided to pursue medical treatment. The vet prescribed Prednisolone and Gabapentin, a strong neuro-muscular medicine for a period of 10 days. Initially we saw signs of improvement in mobility and activity. However, towards the end of 10 days of therapy she returned to initial pain and limited activity. We refilled the medications on 1/22/16 anticipating maybe she could get better as she grew. At this time, our vet contacted Mrs. Spencer to discuss our puppies health issues and wanted to understand her health guarantee to see if there was any specific protocol she needed to follow. Mrs. Spencer became very defensive with our vet and continued to accuse our family of causing trauma to the puppy insisting that is what was causing her health issues. Mrs. Spencer asked that our vet provide all the health records to her vet so that he could review and make his determination. Our vet complied with her requests and sent everything that day. After no improvement, our vet rechecked her on 2/10/2016 and noted she had developed ataxia of the pelvic limbs and symmetrical muscle wasting of the pelvic limbs. A poor prognosis was given and humane euthanasia was suggested because the neurological deficits and pain seemed progressive despite medical therapy. On 2/15/16 she was non-ambulatory with flaccid paresis of all limbs. Humane euthanasia was selected, we elected not to have an autopsy. We had provided Mrs. Spencer communication from our vet, pictures/videos and follow up every step of the process. Through the entire process, Mrs. Spencer never took any ownership that it could be a heritable defect causing all the health issues even after our vet provided a written letter indicating that given the age, history of no trauma, that a heritable defect must be included as a potential diagnosis. All we asked was Mrs. Spencer hold up her end of the puppy health guarantee and provide another puppy at no cost as a result of the breach of health guarantee and implied warranty. After involving an attorney, Mrs. Spencer finally offered half towards the purchase of a new puppy. When we decided to elect that option she reneged on her offer accusing us again and telling the attorney that we would "do the same thing" to another puppy. Please let our terrible experience with Mrs. Spencer and Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel not be your experience, choose to purchase your families puppy with another breeder. read more

My husband and I got a beautiful boxer girl from Spencer's Shady Grove Kennel. My husband made the drive down which was almost a 4 hour drive one way. Once he arrived he was greeted with nothing but kindness. The our little girl was nice and clean and well taken care of. They explained all the paperwork and had everything on hand with them. They clearly take pride in their dogs and with breeding. This is a great place to get a puppy from and we plan to use them again. Once we got the puppy home we got her in with our family vet as per the agreement and as their vet gave a clean state of health so did ours. We thought our baby was on the small side but our vet assured us that she was fine and completely healthy. She is know 8 months old and weighs 44 lbs so she has grown so much and again has been healthy from the start. Our girl is very energetic, full of life and she loves to give loves! She is a fast learner, she knows multiple tricks, and very smart! I am so glad we went them and as I stated before we defiantly will use them again. read more

We had a great experience getting our boxer pup from shady grove. We drove 5 hours each way and I will probably do it again. Our puppy is healthy as can be a growing like a weed. We picked him up at 9 weeks old and he's been in a kennel for at least 5 hours every day since and is yet to have a accident in it. He learns anything we teach him very quick. The breeder was very knowledgeable about the breed and super friendly, our puppy is know four months old and the breeder emails me every now and then just to see how he's doing, and to me that's not just someone breeding dogs, that's someone sharing there family..
