As someone who doesn't know a lot about bicycles, I really appreciate having that kind of local expertise to rely on. My family enjoy bicycling and are eager to hit the trails when the weather warms up a bit. We had our bikes tuned up this week, at Green Light, and are ready to go! I've always felt valued as a customer, and I trust that my bikes are being serviced properly and safely for both me and my family. It's great to have a shop like this in the community. Highly recommend!

I was on the fence with purchasing online or through a LBS (local bike shop) and am glad I went with the latter. Ray and his staff set me up on a bike, sized every aspect accordingly, and gave me an amazing price on an otherwise expensive bike. I noticed a small imperfection on one of my tires and Ray immediately upgraded both tires and adjusted both wheels just in case they needed it free of charge. I recommend purchasing your bikes here as opposed to "Comp. Edge" simply because Ray is good to do business with, stands by his products, and is not a bike snob. One thing I forgot to mention is that Family Bike is a bike shop. They don't sell anything else in the off season which makes them more dedicated to cycling as a whole. They also have amazing deals on past season stuff during the winter months.

Celebrating forty years operating, Laughing Dog Bicycles carries this long history in their repair…read moreshop and sales floor. Downstairs and upstairs is a quiet drop-in space for bike sales, bike accessories, bike publications, bike supplies, and bike repairs. I brought two bicycles here for repair, one that as more of a child's toy instead of a bicycle industry piece, and another. Both needed some minor repair and upkeep, which Laughing Dog did for an affordable price for each bike, and included a safety inspection. Walking into their bicycle shop was half the treat, as they were done with the repairs within only a day. Settled in the back lot alley, with parking and two one-way driveways for in and out, Laughing Dog uses their space with a savvy of years. This is something they provide that a place which only "sells" or repairs bicycles probably can't offer you, and which I believe is common to the bicycle workshops of western MA. I had the impression that I could ask about local bicycling trails, bicycling races, bicycling events, bicycling tournaments, bicycling tracks, bicycling stars, bicycling history, and on and on, and get whatever insight I needed. Their sales floor wasn't jam-packed, and was navigable with the large variety of bikes on their sales floor as well. Bicycles ranged from entry level bicycles to professional, tourney, and off-road bicycles. However, their floor had such a variety, it makes me imagine the variety of customers they've helped over the decades. The variety of bells they have on a handlebar by the register add a cute little touch of bicycling history and options for noisy alarms. I found this place as such a treat to visit, I might as well consider it more than where bike experts meet, I would want to visit it for bicycle history and expertise in the local area.

Gary Kennedy (Junior) is patient, concerned about what you're trying to accomplish as an athlete, and interested in working within your budget (I also met his father with whom I had a great conversation, but he wasn't helping me with equipment). Gary and his team bring an extraordinary understanding of the latest equipment and trade-offs between brand and models. They are all athletes themselves, who use both the bike and ski equipment. They spent over 2 hours helping me select and fit into a great AT setup when they were busy, patiently juggling customers to make sure all of them had equipment that was right for them. While I have been to the Easthampton store numerous times and purchased ski racing gear there for my son, the staff didn't give the same feeling of valuing the customer. Gary heard about my experience and worked hard to make it better, which was great. However, the senior staff, led by Jim, seemed uninterested in being helpful. Even when I told Jim that I had called ahead and Gary did as well to ask that they help me out, he responded: "I get thousands of calls." In fairness, you never know when someone is having a really bad day... but on the other hand, the not-great-attitude has happened more than once at the Easthampton location. All in all a great organization with amazing equipment -- but if it's a choice between Easthampton and Longmeadow, I'd go to Longmeadow. You won't regret it.
