Toshi is hands down the coolest dude EVER. I always wanted my wedding to be a party, and when we decided to have a smaller destination wedding I was worried we would lose the party atmosphere, but boy was I wrong! I reached out to Toshi after reading the reviews on here, and I knew he must be awesome when I saw literally nothing negative. After I got my first response from him via email I knew he was the real deal. He knows the ins and outs of weddings and helped me so much on many wedding related questions before I ended up hiring a DOC. He could easily be a wedding planner as well. He's a jack of all trades and incredibly knowledgeable! Yes, a DJ of this caliber is not cheap, but he was 100% worth every penny. He ended up doing the music for our ceremony and reception, and was also our emcee for the night. He did an amazing job at all three and in addition was the best hype man out there! He kept the room high energy all night, despite the fact we only had about 45 people. People were dancing all night! Not to mention he constantly checked in with my husband and I making sure we had everything we needed or wanted. He gave such great advice, played all of the music we had requested (and then some), and truly set the tone for the whole evening. I loved all of my vendors, but we definitely had the most compliments on Toshi. My Dad wanted to be besties with him, and my husband's Nana commented so many times how fun and cool he was. As an out-of-state couple, it was our priority to work with vendors who have excellent communication and Toshi did exactly that. Where do I even begin? If you're looking to book a DJ/MC/Lighting Extraordinaire look no further then Spectrum Entertainment! Music and dancing was one of my top priorities next to food for our wedding. I LOVE to dance, and was a little nervous about finding the right person who could meet my expectations. Spectrum Entertainment not only exceeded my expectations, but they were nothing short of pure perfection. We hired Spectrum to DJ our wedding in October 2018, and from the very beginning Toshi and Christian were incredible. We live in California, and so all of our planning happened over the phone. For you Type A brides (or grooms) like me, Spectrum is wonderful with communication, assisted tremendously with the wedding timeline, they sent us forms with tips and tricks, and ways to personalize our music and song list. They made sure that they pronounced everyone's name correctly, and they never took over; I always felt 100% supported during every step of the way. During the planning stages, Toshi and Christian made us feel comfortable and secure. They were both very professional, as well as warm and laidback. This helped to make part of the planning process fun. WEDDING DAY!!! Christian was our DJ the day of the wedding, and I got to tell you, Christian, you da you DA BEST!!! The dance floor was always packed! Everyone from my 5 year old niece and nephews to my 70 year old parents were on the dance floor having the time of their lives! Before the dancing part of the night had even started, everything flowed together so nicely. From the ceremony music, to cocktail hour. We hired Toshi to be our wedding MC and DJ and we're so happy we did! After meeting in person, I was immediately sold on his energetic personality and enthusiasm. He was quick to respond to questions over email and was very clear in outlining different package options. He also offered some great suggestions for the program. For example, since I was a little nervous about our choreographed first dance, he suggested that we jump into it right after the grand entrance to get it out of the way instead of waiting until after dinner. On our wedding day, he ran things incredibly smoothly. The very minor mishaps that did happen weren't his fault. Spectrum DJ was amazing! My husband and I had a night to remember because of them. Toshi was very quick to respond to my emails and obnoxious calls. He was also very approachable and very friendly. Toshi knows the latest music, the latest trends in weddings, and knows what would sound good for a particular audience. He also gave us wonderful advice on what would look good, what would look bad, and what could go wrong. The only hiccup I can think of was when there was some sound problems during the beginning part of our powerpoint. There was no one to blame. I guess sometimes when you have different equipment from different vendors and you try to make them all work together, things may not be compatible. Nevertheless, we had a night to remember. Our guests loved the ambiance of the reception, and all the credit goes to Spectrum DJ for our lighting! They provided extra lighting for us which made the whole room looked ethereal. Summary: Toshi made our day into a complete dream come true as the Emcee, DJ, and uplighting provider for our wedding! We had wanted a local emcee who would match well for our crowd of young and elderly folks. He fit the bill perfectly and was a complete professional! Details: From the beginning, we were impressed with his concise and comprehensive initial emails. Planning up to the wedding was smooth, and I heard that my future father-in-law (very stoic and samurai-like) also appreciated the communications he had with Toshi on the side-planning. To put our wedding into perspective: 1) the reception was on a Sunday evening, and we were still busy forwarding last minute program changes to Toshi during that final weekend. And then, the actual ceremony started 40 min late due to too many of our guests on hawaiian time lol, which required Toshi to deal with real-time program adjustments. Toshi was seriously the life of the party. Somehow he became the DJ, the MC, & did part of the day of coordinator's work. The sounds and the lighting were amazing!! "I'm now hiring you to do the leg work with finding our DJ for this year's event.", the event coordinator stated. At the time, it was less than two months before the event and I had to get on the searching STAT. Year round weddings were happening and prom was approaching fast. Vendors would be booked fairly quickly and time slots were limited. I had interviewed several DJ's without any luck via phone and none passed the interview process. I saved the best for last. I asked a few friends for some recommendations and did some deep soul searching through Yelp. I came across Spectrum Entertainment. I had corresponded with Toshi on the phone and finally decided to meet face to face at the Wedding Café. Toshi had back to back meetings and was thankfully able to get me in on the very last time slot of the evening. Due to the short notice, I was a bit skeptical if he would still be available for our event. We discussed prices, times and the location of the event. All I needed to mention to him was a few little minor details and he created a customized package that will be more beneficial for my company. I had seen a variation of videos of him working and I was impressed at not only the selection of music but the diverse crowds and companies he's worked for. Spectrum not only provides sounds but also different variations of excellent lighting. He is immensely knowledgeable with all the equipment and asked all the important questions about the event. After a week of discussing with my coordinator, we hired Toshi. After the coordination of contracts and payment, Toshi communicated the details he would need from us as far as space, plugs, etc. We had a live band and a headliner at the time and Toshi had worked all the minor things offline prior to the day of. A few minutes into speaking with Toshi, we felt comfortable, like we were friends. We knew Toshi was our guy. I found Toshi through a friend's recommendation...and I'm SO glad I decided to use his services in August 2014 for my wedding. Unlike many other vendors in the Honolulu wedding scene, Toshi was on point with communication - he was available by email, text, phone. He was professional, had a formal contract, and was readily available to discuss things. What a relief to have someone dependable for our big day! I really hadn't put a lot of thought into our music and program until the last minute, but Toshi totally helped me figure it all out. Toshi was the DJ for our banquet tonight, and I must say, he really helped to make the event. He was very personable and didn't come off as cocky like some DJs I've seen at other events. I had an awful experience with a few other DJ/Emcee interviews when trying to hire someone for our wedding reception, and when I called Toshi and spoke to him, I felt instantly comfortable and we effortlessly connected. I didn't want to write this but I feel like people should be aware of what it's like to do business with Spectrum. I'm not from Hawaii so a childhood friend of mine, who's wife is from Hawaii, recommended Toshi to me for my wedding. In the beginning everything was easy and since I'm not in Hawaii, everything was basically done via email or on the phone. We put down 30% as per requested, no problem. Our wedding was suppose to be April 2020 but because of the pandemic, we had no choice but to postpone. We contacted all of our vendors mid March to postpone. A few months after, we contacted Toshi again to let him know that at this point, we will be postponing to April 2022. Aside from the fact that he made us wait months to let us know if we can have the new date that we wanted, we received an email from him asking us for another 30% deposit on top of the 1st 30% deposit. Spectrum is the ONLY vendor to do this to me which I found very odd and shady. I thought maybe he got hit really hard during the pandemic but I didn't think that putting down 60% was necessary. He said it's considered a new "booking" because we're picking a new date. He also increased his price by $400.00 because he said he had to switch DJs for that night (which is not by choice). So because I understand that the pandemic hit his business hard, I told him the price increase was ok and I decided to meet him halfway and give him an extra 20% on top of my 30% deposit. FYI: He's the only vendor to ask for extra deposit for changing the date due to COVID. Unfortunately though, 7 months before our new wedding date, we decided to cancel the wedding after all and focus on growing our family. We contacted all of our vendors, and to my not surprise, the one vendor I have issues with again is Spectrum. We did not expect him to refund us the original 30% but he refuses to give back the added 20% that he asked us for. On the phone prior, he told me verbally that he would refund that no problem but NOW according to his email, he can only refund the 20% if the pandemic happens again. AFTER understanding his need to increase his price and him asking for more deposit, he won't understand anything for you. JUST KNOW THAT before booking with him. I was highly disappointed and super stressed dealing with Toshi and this is not something I wish upon any couple who's already stressed with other wedding things. He's unprofessional, unfair, and a deceiver. COVID hit people hard, but this is not the way to get money from people. Specially for a service that didn't even happen yet. When we were planning our wedding the most important part was staying within the confines of our very modest budget like responsible adults living a debt-free life. Isn't that the modern version of a fairy-tale wedding? Our whole plan was food, drink, and dancing. We were pretty casual about the planning, which meant that 3 weeks before the wedding we realized if we wanted people to dance, we should probably get a DJ instead of pawning an ipod off on one of our guests. Thankfully we found Spectrum DJs! Our caterer had worked with Toshi in the past and recommended him as someone competent and reliable. Toshi and Chris met with us right away, went over our timeline, and were ready for anything from the very start. When I emailed them a few days before the wedding to say I had changed my mind about the dinner music, that was fine too. They strongly endorsed up lighting, and I'm glad we listened to them. The up lighting made our simple decorations seem much more elegant. When my (somewhat inebriated) father went up to Chris during dinner to say that "These people want to hear music from that skinny blonde girl, you know, the one that fought Apple (he meant Taylor Swift)" Chris gamely stuck to our plan and let him know that he would play requests right after dinner. He was so accommodating, when we asked for the Norah Jones version of Forever Young, he got it (even though we couldn't find it available for download anywhere). When my parents wanted a specific song, he got it for them on the spot. The ultimate test though, was how much fun everyone had. I've been to quite a few weddings where by the end only a few stragglers remained. Everyone was on the dance floor until the very end, and then stayed to help put away the tables and chairs while Chris played closing down music (after he was already off the clock). There aren't enough words to describe how wonderful Toshi and Chris were. Planning a destination wedding can be tough - especially with a six hour time difference - but Toshi made it a breeze and was super easy to work with. Toshi is the man! I feel so bad for taking so long to get to writing this review. (Marriage is a lot busier than I expected lol.) Our wedding was awesome and people had such a good time dancing. Toshi kept the party going. He also had beautiful uplighting that set the mood for the night. From the moment we contacted him until he packed up and left, Toshi was professional, friendly, and dedicated to making sure our students had a night to remember. The transitions between songs were smooth as butter and he was able to incorporate a bit of line dancing and country music into our heavy hip hop and dance music rotation! Christian was the DJ at my Husband and my wedding. He did a great job getting people on the dance floor, picking music folks wanted to dance to, and managing a slight "rain" issue during the ceremony. (Which required running...literally running equipment into the house when it started only to lug it back out once the rain stopped.) My overall experience working with him and the owner (Toshi), was great. Before the wedding they had us fill out a form with song requests, genre preferences and, very importantly, what "not to play". About a month in advance we went over the form and put together a detailed account of the day--what would be played when and our ideas around timeline. This gave me lots of reassurance that I didn't have to worry about a thing the day of the wedding, which was 100% true. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. read more

We hired Toshi and his team to DJ our destination wedding scheduled for July 2020. Unfortunately due to COVID we were forced to cancel our wedding or postpone. With so much uncertainty surrounding COVID we financially did not have the ability to push our wedding date back not knowing if we would have to reschedule again or not. Toshi was not pleasant to work with when discussing the cancellation of our wedding. In short, we didn't feel it was right to lose our entire deposit when no services had been rendered. His response to our request for any amount of reimbursement for our deposit was "I understand that it's not desirable to hold a wedding in July this year, so that is why the cancellation terms have been relaxed, you have the opportunity to postpone and utilize every bit of your deposit in the future." A two week quarantine as soon as we would arrive to Hawaii is more than "not desirable." Here we are in October and Hawaii has still not removed their 2 week quarantine. If you are currently planning a wedding DO NOT hire Spectrum Entertainment. It is already hard enough planning a wedding with COVID-19 affecting everyone worldwide, but to have a vendor that is not compassionate and understanding of where we are coming from is not a company we would like to work with again in the future. There are plenty of other vendors in Hawaii that will work with you and provide excellent customer service. If I could give them a 0 out of 5 I would. read more

THE TOTAL PACKAGE!!! We hired Toshi for our wedding and he by far exceeded all of our expectations! Everything he provided was top quality. The DJing, audio/visual, and beautiful UP LIGHTING was perfect! From the pre-planning to the wedding day, Toshi was very easy to work with. Toshi did a fantastic job keeping the energy up throughout the event. I have never seen so many of our guests dancing the entire time. We were sad to end the night - they could've danced for hours! He was also very good with last minute changes and requests and was able to drum up some enthusiasm for a dance competition that we had organized. Our guests were mostly between 16 and 18 years of age, so they can be the harshest of critics, but there were definitely raving reviews throughout the night! read more

I speak on behalf of the 2019 Class Board/Council at Kamehameha Schools. Our fellow class leaders have used him for previous events and recommended him to us, and we were very happy with his work. Toshi is very flexible, and while playing his music and mixing tracks, he makes announcements about what is happening. This makes our job (running the dance and doing work) much easier.
