I'm fairly new in town, and had had bad luck trying to get a particular Swiss-made guitar amplifier…read morefixed. By word of mouth, after trying several local repairmen, I got wind of "Shon" at Sound Town. He combed over the amp tooth and nail, and finally solved the problem for me, a problem that turned out to be not so much a broken component (my guess) as operator error, a change-over from an active to passive guitar, and the need for a suitable pre-amp to boost the signal . It took a lot of testing and reading of manuals and schematics, before Sean figured out what was going on. He went so far as to compare my sound-levels with those of other amps in the stores and he was quite patient and thorough in every regard. I made several trips to the store, and became acquainted with three key people there, all of whom were very nice, and I got a feeling for their special niche in the music world, which is the supplying of sound systems and various components, whether for rentals-out or for purchase. They keep a fair supply of guitar needs and are happy to order anything you might want at a fair price. Though Guitar Center and places like Kolacny's and Flesher-Hinton all have their place, I'll always begin by shopping here because of their patience and kindness. It is a special kind of store with special kind of people, and it always feels good to be patronizing a locally owned business of modest proportions. Bravo!

I'm not too aware we have a store like this in The Bay…read more It could very well be World of Stereo but I haven't been since I heard it closed down/changed its name(?) At any rate, it was a nice surprise to see a business in town that was in niche with my music interests. They still carry vinyl, portables and even 3" turntables that have grown in popularity the last few years. When you walk in they even have a roundtable of rigs that they twitchstream and would assume teach classes on. Again a really cool traveller surprise if you ever grew up on DJing/turntablism outside the Mile High scene.

I would not recommend bringing DJ equipment here for repair…read more I brought my Pioneer DJ Opus Quad in because both of the top USB ports stopped working. Before bringing it in, I had found multiple Pioneer DJ forum posts describing what appeared to be the same issue, and the repair seemed fairly straightforward. I emailed with Ian for about a week, explained the issue, and shared the forum posts I found. He told me he was confident he could fix it and just needed to open the unit to confirm which parts needed to be ordered. After I dropped it off, they had the unit for 4 full weeks before the issue was even confirmed. At that point, Ian confirmed it was the same issue described in the forums and told me I could pick it up while we waited for parts. I happened to be out of town that week, so I left it there in case the parts came in while I was gone. Two more weeks went by with no update. I emailed asking if there was any status on the parts because I didn't want to pick it up if they were going to arrive soon. I received no response, so after two days I went in and picked it up. When I got the unit home, I immediately noticed something rattling around inside. I also found a bag of screws inside the case, so it clearly had not been fully reassembled. The entire top of the unit was loose. When I carefully lifted it to see what was rattling, I found that all the plastic screw posts along the bottom of the unit had been broken off of the top plate. One of the broken pieces was loose inside the unit, and the others still had screws in them. So after having my deck for 7 weeks, with very little communication, I got it back in worse physical condition than when I dropped it off. Even if the USB ports are eventually repaired, the top plate can no longer be properly secured without replacing the damaged plastic top plate. At this point, I do not trust them to work on the unit again. If they could not open it without breaking it, I have no confidence they can repair the original problem or the damage that occurred while it was in their possession. This was a 1-star experience. I brought my deck in for repair, waited 7 weeks, received almost no communication, and got it back damaged.

If you could give negative stars, this place would get one. This is the worst experience I've EVER…read morehad with a rental service. We booked a PA system, projector, large screen, speakers, multiple mics, and onsite tech support for a first annual fundraiser. It was confirmed verbally and in email AND on the invoice that they would be there by 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 3rd. At 5:30, they were a no show. I called the mobile number of the tech that was supposed to be there. He finally answered and would not (could not?) tell me where they were. I got the vague answer of "We are at 25". When I asked 25 and what street? he would not answer me. He said 'they' were on their way and would be there as soon as possible. After that, he ceased to answer the calls. No one picked up at their "24 hour" tech support line. I continued to call all night because this literally almost ruined our fundraiser. It delayed the event by over an hour because we had to frantically search for an AV system of ANY kind, and finally a DJ that was a friend came to the rescue with a very moderate sound system, but at least it was amplification! Considering I paid in good faith, I'm extremely nervous about recouping money from this business. If you want to have a successful event - NEVER CALL THIS COMPANY.
