We installed flooring throughout our townhome. Very happy with the quality, efficiency and craftsmanship!

We have a 20 year old entry way to kitchen Brazilian Cherrywood floor that was looking awful. We thought we needed to replace but I found Specialized Surfaces and contacted them for an appt and Tom the owner was amazing and the crew he sent was incredible. I knew when I saw 3 men hand sanding our floor it would look great in the end which is what happened. Tom suggested to put a satin sheen on the floor instead of the original gloss coat. I didn't know how it would look but it turned out amazing and as Tom said, it will be so much easier to take care of and hides everything. Will absolutely recommend Tom and his company to friends who need something done to their flooring. read more

5 Stars....I needed old damaged tile removed from Huntington Landmark condo patio and concrete refinished to original. Specialized Surfaces did a excellent job...quick, efficient and good price. Thanks, Tom read more

I want to give an enthusiastic shout-out to both the staff and to Mr. Tom Salazar, in particular, owner and President of Specialized Surfaces, for the excellent service his staff provided, in repairing a section of wood flooring accidentally damaged by one of my movers, during a residential move we completed, recently, in Dana Point, CA. IMO and that of my customer, as well, the quality of workmanship performed was second to none, as not only did Specialized Surfaces restore the damaged section to its original look (i.e., color & sheen) but also in taking steps to closely match the look of additional wood flooring, covering other rooms also situated on the domicile's first floor. I very much appreciated Mr. Salazar's patience and understanding, in resolving a minor miscommunication problem that occurred among two of his technicians and myself, and thus, allowing the job to move forward to its happy conclusion. It speaks volumes to Mr. Salazar's experience as a seasoned purveyor of the human condition. I recommend Specialized Surfaces to anyone seeking assistance to repair/restore their wood flooring. I would run from this company! This was a terrible experience - that's still going on. Tom misrepresented his services and clearly does not have the experience necessary to work with Saltillo tiles. From the other reviews, it seems he is capable of cleaning basic flooring, but do not expect any real expertise from this company. Tom used a machine on the delicate tiles and left them in terrible shape. Chips, grooves and even a chunk of grout was the result. Even assuming that he did not know how to work with these tiles, the cleaning and glazing was horrible. Giant swirls of color, drips and clusters of glaze and many spots just ignored. In addition, they did significant damage to my baseboards! When I pointed out the shoddy work to Tom, I expected he would take responsibility and agree his team did a horrible job. Instead, he became belligerent and threatening - I was grateful my adult son was in the home. needless-to-say, it was a terrible experience. I had to hire another company to clean the mess they left and seal properly. PM me for the contractor who did the work correctly. I'm sure Tom will respond with the fact he's taking me to court - not a problem, I'm also counter-suing for the cost to replace the damaged tiles and base boards. What he won't tell you is that the State Licensing Board is has also opened an investigation based on my complaint. These are just a few of the pictures I took, along with great after photos. I've included just one with the blue circle to show you the great job the second contractor did on my floors. I had hoped to stay away from public condemnations, but it's clear that Tom only cares about trying to be paid for shoddy work. Sobeit!! I just want to say again - do not hire this person! read more

Specialized Surfaces came out on time and cleaned and recoated my old wood flooring. Roman came on time, worked steadily hard and kept the work area clean. Responded quickly but scheduled an estimate they never showed up for. I waited around for them and they didn't even call or text to cancel as a courtesy. read more

We got three quotes to install about 400 sq/ft of vinyl plank flooring and replace baseboards in several rooms. Tom responded quickly, came out in person and provided his quote in a timely manner. He was not the lowest quote, but when it comes to contractors the cheapest is not usually the best. We are so happy we chose to work with Tom. His team showed up on time, did an excellent job and completed the project super fast. Thanks Tom! read more

Specialized Surfaces did an excellent job in a timely manner. Tom was very clear in his emails and texts about the job to be done (regrouting a tub), the cost, and the date and time that the work would be completed. The worker he sent (Miguel) came exactly on time, was very experienced, and completed the job in a timely manner. He accepted my personal check, because I didn't want to pay extra to use a credit card. From start to finish, I was very pleased with the clear communication and work performed by Specialized Surfaces. It was all completed in a timely manner, at a reasonable cost, and extremely professionally. I would recommend this company to you! read more

Love Specialized Surfaces! They are our go-to whenever we need wood refinishing done. With the absurd amount of rain we've had this year, this deck had a lot of wear and needed some work. Truly cannot express how grateful I am for Tom and Dave. I had an extremely last minute need to get several engineered hardwood planks removed and replaced due to cat urine damage. Tom set a fair price and even let me negotiate a bit. They got me on the books immediately and Dave showed up right on time and got to work. He kept his area clean and did an excellent job. I'm so glad I found them. Dave went above and beyond and replaced additional planks outside of the agreed scope. He ensured the work was done to the highest level of quality. Would recommend them over and over. read more

Whenever we have work done I always expect something to go wrong but in this case everything was done with care and experience. From Tom's visit to estimate to a job well done. We had grout in our kitchen freshen up. They sanded the old grout by hand and did an excellent job of replacing it. It's like having a brand new kitchen. The other job involved removing gran ite tiles from our fireplace in order in large the granite tiles around the fireplace. We did this in order to accommodate the larger television. Both jobs were first class. read more

We had our bathroom re-sealed, the hardwood floor of one room refinished, and some areas of discoloration on the hardwood floor of another room touched up. Before hiring Specialized Surfaces, we had contacted two other companies. The first was very inflexible with poor customer service. The second had a high minimum cost and said they couldn't patch up the discoloration. To make things worse, they never got back to us with a quote. Since moving into our new home, we've unfortunately encountered our fair share of flaky people for home projects. Luckily Specialized Surfaces was different. Tom was very much on top of things, which was refreshing! He came out to our home (masked due to the pandemic), provided us with an estimate very swiftly, and had two individuals out at our home to complete the bathroom and hardwood floor-related jobs. They were friendly and reliable and seemed honest, and we're happy with the results. The grout in our bathroom is clean and white again, and the slate in our shower isn't flaking off; the damaged floor in my office is no longer chipping off and becoming bare; and you can't tell the discolored areas in my husband's office were ever even patched up. We would hire Tom and his company again for sure! Based on our experience, I would recommend this business to others. read more

Tom and his team are the absolute BEST! We needed our white wooden floors to be cleaned and sealed which isn't the easiest of tasks but we were VERY happy with the results. So happy that we hired them again to clean and polish our marble countertops. Who knows what we'll use them for next :) 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for professional work on any type of surface. read more

Tom's team was awesome - we had our Brazilian Cherry floors lightened and refinished and my wife is very happy! Thank you! Jim C.

Tom and his team did an incredible job resurfacing the hardwood floors in my new home. It was a challenging project because the original floor was cherrywood, so there was a lot of red coloring. But they refinished it with a few coats of gray stain followed by a matte finish - and the result was really beautiful. I'm really pleased with their work - highly recommended! read more

I was more than happy with the results of our recent stone refinish project. The stone is outdoors and used to have s tiny surface to it. Over the years the water has dulled and stained the tile. I didn't have super high hopes they could restore it to match the interior stone, but they did! They were polite and professional. I couldn't be more happy. I have been working with Tom for about a decade and the work provided over the years has always been excellent and pricing fair. They have refinished wood floors, repaired and maintained our natural stone and treated carpet/upholstery. They even managed to remove a dark 'hand print' from the natural stone shower bench when a tenant left a glove covered in hair-dye. We were truly impressed and feel fortunate to have Tom and his teams available to us. And we look forward to continuing to have Tom keeping our house in tiptop shape. read more

I had all the Oak hardwood floors in my house cleaned and polished by Specialized Surfaces. After many years of heavy use, I was skeptical as to how clean they could be made. This is an review for Tom (the owner) being very responsive to our RFQ. We had asked him to come by more than once due to changing our scope of task. He still willing to come by and provide us an revised quotation. His price is very reasonable and fair. And it seems like he is very experience in this field. Although we end up didn't use his service. I will definitely like to put him in our consideration for our future project. read more

Tom was very responsive and the men that did the work were polite and professional. Started with a very large wood deck that came out great. We were so pleased, we are moving on to pool decking & patio resurfacing, as well as refreshing some concrete in the backyard and possibly stone floor polishing inside. There are many different approaches, options and price ranges for each situation that really freshen up your home. Whether restoring, refinishing, brand new finishes or just freshening up, there is an option and price for every budget. read more

Tom was late for our initial consultation. After he showed up, and got measurement he promised to have pricing to me within couple of days. After 4 days I followed up and he said he will send it to me within couple of hours and I never received it. Not reliable at all and a waste of time. I ended up using JC tile and he was awesome. read more

I had no experience with refinishing hardwood floors and no idea what to expect. Tom was clear with timeline and finished product. David, who did the application was a hard worker and really cared about the results. He was reliable and accommodating with our tight work work schedule. Do Not Recommend. The company will quote the project and then will send subcontractors to perform the work without supervision or guidance. Quotes are unreliable as well. Consider one of the many other flooring contractors available in OC that have installers who have been with them for years and whose employees, and not subcontractors, will do your work. read more

I recently used this company to lay wood floors in my home. The initial consultation was just that. Tom, shared with me his expertise over the many years of working in this craft. He guided me through the process, and I greatly appreciated his recommendations as it pertained to the overall project and minute details as to baseboards, and a wood finish around the base of the kitchen cabinets. Tom even insured that felt pads were put on every piece of furniture so as to insure easy access for cleaning and eliminating any potential scratches. The finished product is stunning! I would highly recommend this company. read more
