Ahhhhh BUT they got me in both times without giving me a hard time. I bought my last car here and will go nowhere else, these guys are great!! Silly me. They have a new waiting area and it's beautiful. They also have snacks!! And coffee... or hot chocolate... or tea. They have vending if these don't float your boat. For snacks they have fruit, granola bars and fruit snacks! Mmmmm. Makes waiting less painful. I had my car interior detailed here and was a little disappointed because it didn't have that clean feeling when I got it back. The air freshner they put in it was strange and there was no shine or gloss. For almost 90 bucks, I want more. I want to see and feel like it got cleaned and I didn't get that. The other problem was I asked for a loaner for the day.... I got one but they wanted me to pay for it. Excuse Me? I spend enough money here and they shouldn't be charging for a loaner. However, those were the only 2 hiccups I've had. I will continue to come here for service because it's fair and they're professional, I just won't be getting it cleaned here anymore.

I had the best car buying experience I have ever had today at Van Bortel Subaru of Rochester!…read more I worked with Shawn P and not only was he professional, but fun and made the entire experience smooth and stress free. Was a no pressure deal and gave me a great deal without all the back and forth hassle you get at other dealerships! My entire family has used Van Bortel and Subaru for years. 3 generations of happy Subaru owners! I chose the 2026 Ascent Onyx Touring for its towing capabilities as I was coming from an F-150. It tows my Bayliner with ease and I hardly notice a difference! I would also like to add that the service department is also incredible. I had faulty trailer brakes on my trailer and one of the technicians Tom went above and beyond to help me diagnose the issue and gave me recommendations on how to fix it even though they don't normally work on trailers he still pointed me in the right direction. I am THRILLED and would HIGHLY recommend Subaru and this dealership to anyone! Thank you!!! -Nick

The car buying experience was a bit of a mixed bag…read more The good: The saleman was very curtious and easy to talk to. The dealership was clean and seemed like an efficient operation. The price I paid was fair. I didn't get a good price for my trade but that's because the resale value of used EV's is awful right now. Most of the transaction was performed via email and text messages, this didn't seem to be an issue. The not so good: When I tried to correspond, replys to my messages were very slow and the responses were sometimes vague. I made an appointment to close the deal and ended up waiting for over an hour to talk to the salesman, I was on a tight timetable and had a long drive to dealership. The final part of the transaction was rushed as they were closing. One of the financial guys came up to me after all the paperwork was filled out and said they needed an extra $500. This is the third time a dealer has tried to squeeze another $500 out at the last minute.

Well guess what? NOT - when I asked about it and showed my evidence to the service clerk, he got his manager. NOT HAPPY with the service manager's response. The manager proceeds to explain to me the tech thought the tires were fine and due to low mileage, he did not rotate them. BUT they were going to charge me for it! Manager then says that the service clerk was not aware that the tech did not rotate the tires and "its free anyway". So, I guess their lack of communication is on me. I checked the oil at home and it was new, but I am questioning if the oil filter was changed. I don't trust Bob Johnson Chevrolet at this point. Our household has purchased seven vehicles from them in the last 20 years and has had any major service done there. This would have been a perfect teaching opportunity for them to address the lack of communication between the service desk and tech group and allowing the customer to decide if the tires should be rotated. I was not looking for a heartfelt apology. An acknowledgement of less-than satisfactory service would have been appreciated. How about offering another free oil ($79.99) change and tire rotation ($29.99).
