She gave specific directions for obtaining the key in the event she wasn't there when we arrived. Fortunately, we arrived at the same time! Once we got in, she gave a thorough scope of the grounds. We feel in love with the décor and design of each room. Everything was so elegantly placed. The covered porch & deck is the perfect setting for early morning coffee or wine in the evening. If the weather is ideal, I was suggest entertaining the thought of relaxing in the spa. The Loft Suite is a gem, the most coziest and spacious. This room has everything I could ask for! Any toiletries you would possibly need were available and conveniently located. One thing I was so grateful for was the robe on-hand, always a treat for me when I stay away from home! The king bed felt like a piece heaven, as we slept very comfortably each night. The bathroom is modern & the shower is phenomenal. We appreciated the large wood writing desk, for work. The room also had all things required for hot coffee to be prepared right at your reach. Debbie made sure there was nothing to be asked for in the Loft Suite, considering all things provided. Breakfast was prepared and served, consisted of cheese egg & ham omelet seasoned with Greek pepper, polenta cakes, grain toast with a berry spread, delicious! I can't rave enough about this place. If you are traveling b/w any of the neighboring states or just want a quaint get away outside the bustle of the city you must consider the wonderful 'Hiding Place' for your accommodations. Enjoy!

The cottage-they've redone a detached garage (or carriage house) so it's like stepping into a 1700's English cottage. We were there on two cold, rainy days, and the place wrapped us in warmth and comfort-and romance! It's furnished with quilts, antiques and art from Hermann, and the bathroom has a jacuzzi for 2. Words don't do it justice, see the website! The hosts-you get their full attention, because you're their only guests. Jack and Chris are friendly and gracious, but know when to give you your space. Breakfast is pretty much on your schedule-Chris will ask you when you want her to have it ready in the morning. Sometime during the day she'll slip in and restock towels and put dessert in the fridge, which leads me to... The food-OMG, you won't need lunch after eating a Cady breakfast! The first morning was a baked apple in homemade fruit liqueur, eggs Benedict, potato pancake, and bacon; the next morning, poached pears, whole wheat pancakes, scrambled eggs, and sausage. Most of it is locally produced. Absolutely delicious, and served in their dining room that's also furnished in Colonial-period decor. And wherever you get dinner, skip dessert, because it's better back at the cottage-we had chocolate torte and a peanut butter pie that was so good I almost wanted to roll in it! A word of warning, if you will-they have wi-fi if you bring a laptop, and a CD player stocked with classical and American Standards, but no TV-they expect that you're there to enjoy each other. And in these surroundings, that's not a problem. A charming place, will definitely return!

First, some bed and breakfast placed feel very institutionalized or feel like just another hotel. The cottage itself has roomy comforts and one of the best bathrooms I have seen in a hotel as far as a jacuzzi and the decor. Breakfast was a standout. Creamy eggs does slide well with a good cup of coffee. I recommend having the breakfast in the patio area and not being afraid to socialize with the owners. They are very friendly and helpful in navigating your way around Hermann to know where to shop and eat. Very pleasant stay, very pleasant people, and something unique that can be experienced if you are looking for a break from the typical B&B experience. Make sure to have those chocolate chip cookies. They are some of the best that you will have.

The B&B is around 150 years old and has 3 rooms - we stayed in Suite #2, which also has a sauna. The owners, Lynn and Bob, are very friendly and so hospitable. We felt welcomed from the instant we pulled into the drive. The breakfast the next morning was amazing: a wonderful fruit assortment, caramel sticky buns, and a mouth watering egg strata. I also appreciated their flexibility in easily accommodating my vegetarian diet. Apple Gate Inn is also within a block of the Katy Trail and a stone's throw from Augusta Brewing Co.

Check in was easy and the view on the hill would be nice if not rainy and can't imagine what a great sunny day would be like (probably very pretty!). They do have a 3 mile walking trail but if you try it you need to grab the map first or you'll think you're heading to a private road. We turned back without a map thinking we went the wrong way - rookie mistake but wish we would have been told to grab a map prior to heading out. Or be handed one as newbies... The owner I believe lives in the facility as well, and it was Easter weekend. He was talkative first night upon check in and did stop by outside to chat. The waterfall was not working and he said maybe he'd get it working by the time we left. Not a big deal, but never did turn on. It was odd that his family lived there or was visiting for Easter so we did feel a little like intruders over the weekend. Room: was freezing cold, and first night the heat was not working well. We did have a fireplace in the room but the unit to use for heat was not working no matter what we tried even with staff assistance. The bathroom was freezing and we had to use a space heater to try to warm it. We did complain the second night and nothing was fixed as owner was having Easter dinner upstairs with his family. Hot Tub: clean, small and perfect for 2 people. Made the trip. Didn't use the small table fire pit. They don't tell you that they drop off deserts at night and the next morning we woke up with melted ice cream outside the room. Communication breakdown. Coffee was folders, nothing great but did have a selection of offerings for breakfast time. Staff workers were amazing - kind and super friendly given that it was Easter weekend. You can tell they do try to give you the best experience. The staff hired here were amazing and friendly. Games are available for the rainy days. TV has most steaming services, rooms a tad older look. Somethings not functioning - like the sound machine, TV being finicky, and heat in room. We probably will not choose this room. Would rather stay at the rooms that are on the river and try that route next time!
