The Inn has the same warm and homey feel to it as it was with Connie and Gary. They have converted the "antique" room to a game room and filled it with board games ( or bring your own.) The breakfasts were fantastic (especially Megan's breakfast pizza with a puff pastry crust.) The afternoon treats are amazing (cinnamon pecan coffee cake and fresh raspberry cheesecake tarts..yumm!) The common area with the fireplace and the comfy couch and chairs is perfect after a day of hiking a Pere Maquette or exploring Grafton. The rooms are cozy and very clean. It is such a relaxing getaway ! I look forward to many more trips to the Green Tree Inn !

Connie and Gary could not have not been kinder or more hospitable hosts. Breakfast was lovely, and hot and cold beverages were available in the common area along with Connie's delicious homemade treats -- she even insisted on packaging up brownies for us to take on the road when we departed! When visiting, do ask Connie and Gary for instructions on how to take a self-guided driving tour of nearby Principia College, which features many amazing buildings by architect Bernard Maybeck and stunning views from the bluffs of the Mississippi River. I'll be looking for an excuse to return to Elsah for another stay at Green Tree Inn... Highly recommended!

They were booked so Jim, the owner to,d me they owned this place, the George Street Suites, and offered it as an alternative. Sure! I said. And he charged me $139 bucks a nifght for two nights. What a DUMP! The place stunk of must and cigarette smoke. The couch had huge rips in it and the furniture looked like something they got off the sidewalk. I turned on the water and a bunch of brown came put if the faucet. I asked if Jim if we could cancel our following nights stay and get a refund. Jim agreed and I told him what we found. He did refund me for the one night but I do feel taken for paying $139 for such an awful place. What a disappointment

Owner still charged me for one night. Nothing close to what you see online. Staircase is super steep, doors do not have secure locks and windows in old doors. Shag carpet and furniture at least 30 years old. Creepy. Disappointed as he knew I was traveling in from California, arriving after dark. We felt welcomed from the instant we pulled into the drive. The breakfast the next morning was amazing: a wonderful fruit assortment, caramel sticky buns, and a mouth watering egg strata. I also appreciated their flexibility in easily accommodating my vegetarian diet. Apple Gate Inn is also within a block of the Katy Trail and a stone's throw from Augusta Brewing Co.

The cottage-they've redone a detached garage (or carriage house) so it's like stepping into a 1700's English cottage. We were there on two cold, rainy days, and the place wrapped us in warmth and comfort-and romance! It's furnished with quilts, antiques and art from Hermann, and the bathroom has a jacuzzi for 2. Words don't do it justice, see the website! The hosts-you get their full attention, because you're their only guests. Jack and Chris are friendly and gracious, but know when to give you your space. Breakfast is pretty much on your schedule-Chris will ask you when you want her to have it ready in the morning. Sometime during the day she'll slip in and restock towels and put dessert in the fridge, which leads me to... The food-OMG, you won't need lunch after eating a Cady breakfast! The first morning was a baked apple in homemade fruit liqueur, eggs Benedict, potato pancake, and bacon; the next morning, poached pears, whole wheat pancakes, scrambled eggs, and sausage. Most of it is locally produced. Absolutely delicious, and served in their dining room that's also furnished in Colonial-period decor. And wherever you get dinner, skip dessert, because it's better back at the cottage-we had chocolate torte and a peanut butter pie that was so good I almost wanted to roll in it! A word of warning, if you will-they have wi-fi if you bring a laptop, and a CD player stocked with classical and American Standards, but no TV-they expect that you're there to enjoy each other. And in these surroundings, that's not a problem. A charming place, will definitely return!

You have got to be kidding me. This is the worst place I have ever spent a night. This "quaint"…read morebed and breakfast features such amenities as 70's grade school false ceilings complete with flourescent lighting. The windows shake when Harleys ride by. There are ear plugs and a white noise machine by the bed. The kicker, though, is the misquito netting around the bed that hangs from the artificial ceiling. The best part is that the netting smells like cat urine. It's funny, the guest book has entries (all written by men) about their honey moons at this place....why do you suppose these oblivious red necks were writing about how much better it was than their trailer. Could it be that their wives were in tears about the bad sex and worse accomodations? Interestinly enough, most of the pages were torn out of the guest book....can't imagine why. Worst place ever!
