We stayed at the Boone's Colonial Inn for two nights. There are two sister properties, and this is…read morethe smaller, more expensive one. Boone's Colonial is not a traditional bed and breakfast. First, there is no one on-sight. You must call before arrival and the innkeeper will let you in and give you the keys. Second, there isn't a breakfast, though there are snacks and water. Finally, they do have nightly housekeeping. In regards to staying, there are pros and cons. 1. We stayed in the French Colonial suite. This suite is street level and walks out onto the pedestrian sidewalk. It wasn't overly noisy, but lacked privacy. Lots of people walked by and glanced into the windows of our room. Also, you can hear street traffic at night though that died down after midnight. I thought the "right in the heart of it" location was fun once I got over the initial shock. 2. There was another couple on the first floor with us staying in the Spanish Colonial suite. That room is also street level but faces the back alley. It has a queen bed, the French has a king. We did not hear them at all which was a pleasant surprise in an old building. 3. The room had its own air conditioner but I'm not convinced it worked. Well, it worked, but I don't think it ever got as cool as we wanted at night. 4. We brought our son and they made a little cot up for him which was very nice. 5. The room is missing a few comforts including an ironing board, a safe, lotion, a fan, and we only had two pillows. 6. The room has Netflix. 7. I had read on the Inn's site that it came with French bath products and a Colonial nightgown set. It did not. The bath products and towels were definitely a missed opportunity to make the stay extra special. The products were all mismatched samples and the towels were worn. 8. The bed is very comfortable. We slept well. Overall, at $250 per night, I think the price is a little much for what you get, but it's a very nice room and the location seems safe and fun. We were most definitely comfortable.

The Inn has the same warm and homey feel to it as it was with Connie and Gary. They have converted the "antique" room to a game room and filled it with board games ( or bring your own.) The breakfasts were fantastic (especially Megan's breakfast pizza with a puff pastry crust.) The afternoon treats are amazing (cinnamon pecan coffee cake and fresh raspberry cheesecake tarts..yumm!) The common area with the fireplace and the comfy couch and chairs is perfect after a day of hiking a Pere Maquette or exploring Grafton. The rooms are cozy and very clean. My friend and I stayed in the Meadowlark Room, featuring two full beds and a shower/tub. The room was immaculately clean, quiet, and adorably antiquated. Connie and Gary could not have not been kinder or more hospitable hosts. Breakfast was lovely, and hot and cold beverages were available in the common area along with Connie's delicious homemade treats -- she even insisted on packaging up brownies for us to take on the road when we departed! When visiting, do ask Connie and Gary for instructions on how to take a self-guided driving tour of nearby Principia College, which features many amazing buildings by architect Bernard Maybeck and stunning views from the bluffs of the Mississippi River. I'll be looking for an excuse to return to Elsah for another stay at Green Tree Inn... Highly recommended!

We did not want to drive back out late with any intoxicated patrons. He checked in around 2-3pm. Called me and already told me that the cable wasn't working in our room. I arrived at 5 pm on my own. The staff were somewhat friendly. When i politely asked one of the ladies about coffee cups as they had it still out for serving. I felt like it was an inconvenience to her to restock. I get that it's New Year's Eve and they were busy with people hangout playing pool being loud. Our room itself was nice, clean, and perfect for the one night stay. We had a king bed. Their devote is very modern like. I like the calming colors they use throughout the building. I was bummed that we didn't get a good city view, but we will make sure to get that next time. They do have free WiFi that you can utilize for a weeks worth. The cable wouldn't work still. I did have to call guest services to see what they'd be able to do. They only suggested for us to unplug everything to reboot. After 3 tries it finally started to work. I do like how their checkout is at noon. Most hotels it's around 11. They have continental breakfast from 6:30-9:30. By time I went downstairs around 8:30 everything was picked over. I was surprised many were up already after nye celebrations. Overall, we had a decent stay. Just minor mishaps, but I'd stay again. Their coffee isn't the best, I was hoping Picasso 's would have been open. Shower was nice! I liked how the room had coat hooks for shorter people like myself. If it wasn't for the cable and some of the staff. I'd rate it a 5!
