We just stayed at the Green Tree Inn in Elsah for our annual weekend. We cannot say enough good…read morethings about the new Innkeepers. Megan and Calvin are the perfect hosts ! The Inn has the same warm and homey feel to it as it was with Connie and Gary. They have converted the "antique" room to a game room and filled it with board games ( or bring your own.) The breakfasts were fantastic (especially Megan's breakfast pizza with a puff pastry crust.) The afternoon treats are amazing (cinnamon pecan coffee cake and fresh raspberry cheesecake tarts..yumm!) The common area with the fireplace and the comfy couch and chairs is perfect after a day of hiking a Pere Maquette or exploring Grafton. The rooms are cozy and very clean. It is such a relaxing getaway ! I look forward to many more trips to the Green Tree Inn !

My friend and I stayed in the Meadowlark Room, featuring two full beds and a shower/tub. The room was immaculately clean, quiet, and adorably antiquated. Connie and Gary could not have not been kinder or more hospitable hosts. Breakfast was lovely, and hot and cold beverages were available in the common area along with Connie's delicious homemade treats -- she even insisted on packaging up brownies for us to take on the road when we departed! When visiting, do ask Connie and Gary for instructions on how to take a self-guided driving tour of nearby Principia College, which features many amazing buildings by architect Bernard Maybeck and stunning views from the bluffs of the Mississippi River. I'll be looking for an excuse to return to Elsah for another stay at Green Tree Inn... Highly recommended!

You can rent out the whole place or one of the many gorgeous room. Secured locked doors with a code that only guests know ensures safety is first. On the second floor there are a variety of 5 rooms to choose from. Some have an en suite bathroom and kitchen. One room has a bathroom adjacent in the hall and leads to a kitchen area and living space. Full kitchen comes with anything you need including utensils, cutlery, and even those condiments you forgot! There is also a balcony with tables chairs and grill. If you get the penthouse on the third floor you won't be disappointed! Huge full kitchen with amenities like the second floor Kitchen. Huge living area with comfy couches and large dining table. 2 bed rooms can sleep 4. The huge balcony with tables and chairs provides an amazing view of the Clark bridge and Mississippi River. This place is within walking distance of many great Alton eateries and shops. Also only a 16 minute drive to Grafton or Edwardsville for for entertainment. One drawback is the parking. No dedicated lot so it's only street parking. There are dedicated spaces out front and side parking is available too. We cannot wait to come back and utilize this space again! *Wasn't able to picture of all the rooms just mine*

Owner still charged me for one night. Nothing close to what you see online. Staircase is super steep, doors do not have secure locks and windows in old doors. Shag carpet and furniture at least 30 years old. Creepy. Disappointed as he knew I was traveling in from California, arriving after dark. I told him I was visiting my handicapped daughter who stairs would not be safe for. Mike told me it was beautiful loft called the love Joy. Nothing beautiful here.

We did not want to drive back out late with any intoxicated patrons. He checked in around 2-3pm. Called me and already told me that the cable wasn't working in our room. I arrived at 5 pm on my own. The staff were somewhat friendly. When i politely asked one of the ladies about coffee cups as they had it still out for serving. I felt like it was an inconvenience to her to restock. I get that it's New Year's Eve and they were busy with people hangout playing pool being loud. Our room itself was nice, clean, and perfect for the one night stay. We had a king bed. Their devote is very modern like. I like the calming colors they use throughout the building. I was bummed that we didn't get a good city view, but we will make sure to get that next time. They do have free WiFi that you can utilize for a weeks worth. The cable wouldn't work still. I did have to call guest services to see what they'd be able to do. They only suggested for us to unplug everything to reboot. After 3 tries it finally started to work. I do like how their checkout is at noon. Most hotels it's around 11. They have continental breakfast from 6:30-9:30. By time I went downstairs around 8:30 everything was picked over. I was surprised many were up already after nye celebrations. Overall, we had a decent stay. Just minor mishaps, but I'd stay again. Their coffee isn't the best, I was hoping Picasso 's would have been open. Shower was nice! I liked how the room had coat hooks for shorter people like myself. If it wasn't for the cable and some of the staff. I'd rate it a 5!

However they are started to let this place go, basic maintenance and service continues to drop. The wifi last week was horrible, and when you let the desk clerk know (a very young kid) i get 'sorry, maintenance will be here sometime this week'. also they used to put out cookies in the evening, thats gone. The breakfast now has now muffins, same stuff every day (scrambled eggs, soft sausage, breads), no waffles, no changes to mix up the week. Also realized the walls are quite thin, all night the person above me walks with heavy feet and heels. Im a hilton honors member, going back to the Frontenac, its older but much nicer rooms and the staff actually cares about your stay (not a bunch of kids).

I also had to have a company credit card shipped to the hotel and they had it waiting for me at the front desk. So bravo to the management and staff here! Thank you for making my chicken after a very long day so easy. I have a two queen room, with very comfortable beds. The room has a dresser, mini fridge, microwave coffee maker, hairdryer, and Desk for me to work at when I'm not in the office. There's a spacious closet and the bathroom is large and not cramped. The continental breakfast has everything you need or want and is included in your room price. And I love the social happy hour, the pool, the hot tub and gym are all great amenities. Their toiletries selection, snack and drinks selection are more affordable than some convenient stores. That saved me when I didn't have a car and realized I forgot several items. Saint Charles location is in the middle of its own little town and there are restaurants and stores all around it so you really don't even need a car.
