I think the management has done a magnificent job in their restoration / conversion of the building. My room was clean, unique, well planned and spacious. I had a small balcony should i want to sit outdoors. The nights were quiet and the climate control made me comfortable without concern. The public spaces in the hotel accommodated all our needs smoothly whether it was a meeting, breakfast, motor coach access, or a banquet (the rooftop event space was spectacular). The proprietors were accessible and explained their choices in the remodeling without being defensive in any way. Our stay here was one of the highlights of an extended weekend in St. Louis. Would highly recommend. Although the hotel is downtown it is not in the most developed area, but the quality of the operation made everyone attending pleased to have stayed here as opposed to some more expensive cookie cutter options in busier parts of town.

Esthetically pleasing, smells good, and the lobby gives old school luxe and class. The lobby is…read morebeautiful and the front desk staff, as well as the valet attendant, were kind and welcoming upon our arrival. But almost immediately, the disappointments began. During my check-in process, the front desk attendant took a call from a guest, and I overheard her stating that the wi-fi and the television service was down and still being worked on. She hung up from that call and completed my check-in. The room I had reserved through the app during the digital check-in process was not ready yet (Room #821), so I was given Room #639. I asked about the issue with the wi-fi and tv, and she confirmed that they were both down and still being worked on. The room rates are much too high to not be provided with these basic amenities. We made our way up to the room and found a crumpled-up washcloth inside of the entryway of the room. The door did not close on its own behind us and we found that it needed to be lifted and pushed to fully close. We were two women in an unfamiliar place, and the doors need to function properly for security purposes. I called down to the front desk and was advised to return to be assigned another room. After my adventure back downstairs, I returned to move next door to Room #637. We immediately adjusted the temperature of the fridge, which was warm, in order for us to store our beverages. We adjusted the thermostat because the room was a bit stuffy. My daughter untucked her bed for inspection and tossed two pillows that she found with stains on the linens. I checked my bed as well. The room was ok. High ceilings, cool artwork and light fixtures, and a/c that worked astonishingly well. The walls, however, were dirty and could've used a brief wipe-down and there was a thick layer of dust on the floor bordering the pieces of furniture. That night, when I went to the restroom and opened the drawer, I was greeted by a roach! It was late and we weren't prepared to change rooms, so I decided to wait until morning to mention it to the staff. Besides, if there is a roach problem, it won't be confined to just one room. The entire place probably has them! My daughter showered first in the morning and advised me that the tub was slow-draining, and that water pooled around her ankles. So, when someone texted me to check on how my stay was going, I let them know. They completely ignored my comment about the roach and asked if they could send someone up to look at the tub. I declined because we were leaving for the day and didn't want anyone in our room while we were away. We were out the entirety of the day, late into the night, and immediately went to bed upon our return. The next day I checked out via the app and was emailed my final bill. I had been overcharged for parking. I used valet both nights, which is $49/night + tax. I was charged that fee, plus a $10 group parking fee (multiple times), and $38/night self-parking fee. I opened a chat with the front desk online and after quite a bit of back and forth with someone named An Vialyn, the chat was ended with no resolution. I now have to reach out to them again via the 1-800 # listed online. The main upside to this visit is the location of the property. We were able to walk to the Dome at America's Center, Gateway Arch National Park, and several restaurants and shops in the surrounding area.

Arrival: by Uber, nobody greeted us at the door. There is a ramp to the far left of the door if you have luggage and don't want to climb the 3 steps. Frontdesk: They do their job, nothing more, nothing less. They check you in and give you a key. No information about the hotel, gym, concierge longue, restaurant, nothing. We are Platinum members and she did ask if we wanted points or breakfast, we went for breakfast. That was it, nothing more. We asked for water, they gave it to us. Room: EXCELLENT SLEEP QUALITY, super quiet. We were giving an upgraded room. It was very spacious. You can tell it is getting old. The carpet is very warn, the closet door refused to stay shut, but for a hotel that allows pet, I did not have any allergic reactions. I am severely allergic to pets. Nice King size bed with good pillows. Mini fridge in the room, safe, coffee station, ice bucket, and decent amount of drinking cups. Concierge longue: If you have status there is a decent size lounge. There is a water station for refiling your bottles, coffee station, snacks, and sodas. Breakfast was tolerable. The eggs are powdered and needed hotsauce. The hockey puck sausage was mealy and one bite and I was done. The yogurt had a chalky taste and the fruit was not fresh. I gave up because I remembered that I got a breakfast voucher. Breakfast: Went to the restaurant for breakfast and the young girl said I need a voucher. The front desk did not give me a voucher on check-in, so I went there and a young man helped me. I got my voucher. Took forever to get a seat. No explanation from the staff on how to order, finally I was given a menu. I ordered the eggs benedict. It came to me super fast like less than 10 minutes. Everything was temperature hot and I burned my mouth on the home fries, but they did not taste good. There was so potato taste, but pure salt. The eggs were under cooked and soggy. The execution was off. Housekeeping: she stopped me in the hallway and asked if I wanted my room service or if I just wanted supplies. I found it odd, but I said give me towels, water, and she skipped my room. This hotel gets 4 stars for being so quiet with awesome sleep quality and above average bed and pillows. The service is majorly lacking and the food onsite is not good. I did not even eat my free breakfast on the second day.

Lighting in the bathroom was inadequate. Sleep quality: Overall good with minimal noise from hallway and nearby rooms Perks for Marriott status: Points offered at check in and free breakfast buffet in lounge. The breakfast buffet was better than average. Also received late checkout. Also, manager left a note and a snack tray for me in my room. Nice touch to see the arrival gift in my room. Staff: Overall staff was very helpful. Even though the lobby was bustling, it somehow still felt secluded and relaxing. One of the things I appreciated most was being able to enjoy a conversation without having to compete with loud music or excessive noise. Service was exceptional from start to finish. Yeah...I can see why this place only has one review before mine. If I could use one word to describe this hotel, it would be: confusing. Why is the front entrance on the side of the building? Why is the road it's located next to a dead end street? Why is the part that looks more like the front entrance locked? Why is the parking garage equipped with gates that don't function? Why did the hotel receptionist's deadpan greeting to guests come across as though she hated her job wanted to off herself? Also, did I mention one of our delivery food orders apparently got stolen? Yup. That happened. We're still not completely sure if it was the GrubHub person who did it, or some other guest in the hotel. But we're fairly certain if there were a requirement to notify the front desk first, it would greatly reduce the chance of theft. And then there's the room itself. It was pretty standard, except....there were no where nearly enough convenience outlets. this is a first for us. Also, there was only one night stand; in between both queen beds. I dunno, man. I was able to stock some items for meals and snacks, which I suggest as they don't offer meals other than breakfast. However, there are also lots of restaurants in the area. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean, as well as the room. A few notes: this is the 2nd Marriott I've stayed at this month that have had hot water issues. I was here for 5 nights and during that I did not have a hot shower. I truly hope that Marriott is not cutting costs in energy comsumption to the detriment of their guests. I think that is the wrong answer. Charge me more for using energy, but please let me have a hot shower. In addition, there was an Imminent tornado warning while I was staying at this hotel. There were many guest that went to the first floor as directed by the warning to get to the lowest level. The only area that was offered to all of us as a secure place to stay in case of a tornado was a hallway on the first floor. So luckily, there wasn't a tornado, however I found out from another visitor at a different Marriott brand hotel, that they were taken to a basement location to ride out tornado warning. If this is a common enough occurrence, then maybe this hotel needs a better tornado shelter plan for the many guests that were there? But if you travel when there aren't tornadoes and don't need a hot shower, then this was a very nice place.
