Visited Eckert's Grafton Farm and pretty impressed. We visited on. Saturday in October and enjoyed picking apples and walking around the farm away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Prices for apple picking and pick you own pumpkin were reasonable and did take home some delicious apple cider. Very family friendly with a play and petting area with farm animals. Coming from St Charles and taking the Grafton Ferry for $17.00 roundtrip, entrance to the orchard for $14.00 ($7 per person) and about $25.00 worth of golden delicious apples for a total of $56.00 made this apple picking trip very memorable in bad way. We visited on a "Pumpkin Jamboree" day, and I was surprised by the size of the crowd. I didn't count the cars, but estimate there were 150 vehicles across the rolling-hill parking lot. After we walked up the blue-barrel-marked walkway to the sheds, we found two waiting lines roped off like airport security: one for the apple-picking wagon, and one for the pumpkin-picking wagon, each pulled to the appropriate field by a tractor. You pick your pumpkin(s) and/or apple(s), ride back to the checkout shed, and pay by the pound. Since I don't normally buy pumpkins by the pound, I had no idea what to expect. But it turns out 69-cents/pound was a little more than I imagined. But it was all right. We were paying for the experience, and had a good time. read more

They charge $2.00 per person just to ride their wagon out to the picking areas. They charge 0.25 for a 2 Oz cup of apple cider. Their prices for both apples and pumpkins are way higher than market price, and we were doing the picking. One average size pumpkin was over $9.00. Although Eckert's worked hard in the past to build a family friendly business, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for your pumpkins and apples. Eckert's is always an enjoyable experience. I have been for apple picking in the fall and peach and blackberry picking in the summer. You pay for the fruit by the pound. There is a hayride and a playground for children. There are a lot of activities at Eckert's in the fall during apple and pumpkin season. It is much more crowded in the fall than the summer. We had to pay $2 per person including our young just-three-year-old twins. For that price, it was shocking that they didn't have any of the kid "rides" open. The worst part, however, is that after picking the apples, we owed over $100. At $3.50 a pound for apples that are averaging $1/lb in the grocery store, this place is a huge rip off. It's a shameful thing that this company would charge whatever they want because they are known and established. They have found a formula that works for their profit margins- gouge the customers. I remember as a kid this was an establishment for all kinds of families from all socio-economic backgrounds. Seems like their core values as a company shifted somewhere down the road. The two locations we tend to frequent are Grafton and Belleville. Belleville is more commercialized but now have just about everything you could want from a country farm experience. They have a nice market and restaurant with excellent food. You can pick everything from apples, peaches, blackberries, strawberries and even pumpkins. Grafton is not as large and the drive on the great river road is wonderful so we tend to prefer the Grafton location. For kids they have a small amusement park and petting zoo. My girls love the tractor ride to the orchards. Plenty of parking! Tips... Hit the bathrooms before stepping in line to board the tractor. Save room for some pie and ice cream! read more

I LOVE picking fruit. Eckerts is the perfect place for it, and I go every year at least twice. There isn't much that is better than cooking and baking with local fruit that is in season. I have gone on a huge kick of freezing fruit to use in the off season and I love to bake. This Eckerts is my favorite because it's in Grafton. Grafton is the cutest little town, with shops, wineries, and restaurants right on the river. The drive up is beautiful. It's also not too busy when I've gone. There are a lot of staff to help you. This year, I picked blackberries that were HUGE and sweet. Also, peaches, twice - two varieties. Later in the season they are cheaper (99 cents a pound). I was there today to pick honey crisp apples, the best kind, in my opinion. I've also picked jonagolds and fujis. I'll go back later this Fall to pick them again. I spent $100 on apples today and I am making a crapload of stuff with them! Love. read more

Have been going to Eckerts for many years in the fall to get apples and pumpkins. Great clean family fun. Unfortunately, this year they are charging $2.00 a person to just get out to the picking areas. I spent $132 and some change on three pumpkins, two full bags of apples, a jar a jam and small bag of caramel popcorn. Then went over and spent another $32 on funnel cakes, cider and other food. I am already paying a significant markup... the field access pass is really more of an insult than anything. At least give a credit back on the final purchase if a certain threshold is met. They are getting greedy. Plenty of places with free or low cost entertainment to go get pumpkins and I can buy local apples at Walmart. We will unfortunately be ending our tradition in favor of more affordable options. read more

I was SOOOO excited to see that this venue was a planned rest stop on a Trailnet Bike Ride! This review may not be as detailed as you like in terms of products... this is more of a "feeling" review ;) I have an obsession with blackberries. Yes, it's true...I admit. And when I found out that morning that Eckert's was one of our planned rest stops, I got giddy like a school girl! Pick your own blackberries.... WHAT? Get out! So I had some serious pedaling motivation to get there! We turned down the gravel road.... gravel on a bike!? Who cares, bring me to the blackberries! There were people carrying wagons of picked delights to their car. Everyone had smiles on their faces. I wanted some of THAT! We parked the bikes. I jumped off... grabbed my money and went straight to the country store and said I want to PICK MY OWN BLACKBERRIES - How much?!??!?! He said, are you going to fill a container? I said NO! I am going to eat my way through your fields! He said FREE - have at it!!!! .... Gasp .... WHAT?! Off I went fleeing in to the fields looking for the biggest and juiciest ones I could find. I felt light and free! Someone even gave me a tip to look lower bec people miss all those goodies! I prob ate a pint! (didn't' want to be too greedy) So I walked back up to the store to thank him...as well as buy another pint! Yes, that's right! And a lemonade! Felt like I should buy something for such a treat they provided me. And I did share this pint (barely) I biked on that day with a VERY full belly of blackberries. Thank YOU Eckert's for such a great memory. If you are still reading this, they DO have a great selection of local jams/spreads/honeys too! Wonderful experience. Took my elderly parents there. Best to go on a weekday after 10a to avoid the crowds. Each Eckert's has something different to offer. I had no trouble changing my tickets to a different day due to possibility of rain during our planned visit. Warning, the toilets' are port-a-potty, clean but not indoor plumbing. At least the hand wash station is plumbing even though it was hard to get a good rinse. The store is small but cozy. There is a lot of things for children to do. The store had pixie apples to sale even though they were not able for picking. To get to the farm from St. Louis/ St. Charles you have to travel the Great River Road which alone is a great experience, esp in October when the colors change. read more

A fall day at Eckerts - just what the doctor ordered! We picked this location as it was close to what our planned 2nd stop was. Just a hint of warning - if you've never been to this location, make sure you map it out because its really out there and your GPS may not work. Once there, we grabbed some of the delicious apple cider as we made our way through the small country market. Sad day however as the homemade kettle corn machine was having issues and we couldn't get our hands on any. However we grabbed a bag, jumped on the wagon and headed out to the apple fields. The friends with us hadn't been to Eckerts in years and didn't realize that you could taste the sweet apples as you were picking. We enjoyed a few a piece as we filled our bag with apples for home. So the apple-picking was fun, although it was early in the season so all they had were honey crisps and jonathans. Everyone was, of course, ga-ga over the honey crisps, most of which were rotting on the trees. Oh, and super expensive. We picked the jonathans which were tasty, plentiful and fun. Apparently, though, the real reason we went was the custard. Three words for you: Dutch Apple Knocker. Hunks of real apple pie piled on as a sundae or blended into a concrete. Delicious! read more

We brought our Girl Scout troop to Grafton Eckerts farm to help them earn their Tree badge. I called a month ahead and talked to Bob. He was really nice and helpful.. It was a small group so we didn't need to set up reservations. There were 12 of us total. It was Sunday with live music. Nice. We brought our lunch and ate at the picnic tables in the shade. Then for our tour and talk with Bob. He told us the information about the trees then about the apples. He gave us our bags and we were off. Wow, were we hot. Water we purchased our apples and such he gave each one of a an ice cold water. That save some of us for sure. It was a very nice experience. Super late on all these reviews. My mom wanted to go apple picking so we made it a family day. I looked to see if I could bring my dog, they're only allowed in the main section and not the orchard. So I decided not to bring bc who is going to watch him while I'm in the orchard? lol. anywho the drive isn't bad at all coming from Florissant, beautiful scenery on the way. The parking is in the grass so beware if you just got your car washed that weekend!!! (ugh) Entry is free, there are picnice tables in the main area with a man and his guitar on one side, and a childrens play area on the other. You have the option of their store that has all the goodies, i buy my honey here. Or their food stand, smell the delish smoke turkey leg, funnel cake is awesome here. And you must have the cider. The tractor took us to the apple orchard, most of the trees near the trail were rancid. Stunk like vinegar and no good apples. Beware! You must wear shoes you do not mind getting apple, apply vinegar, mud and god know what else on them. If you hike to the back of the oprchard thre are plenty of trees to choose from. The pumpkin patch was too cute though. No mess and a great selection. Overall bring the kids or your grandma, its a cute rustic day to get ur own produce. read more

My family and i were looking forward to our trip to Eckerts but it was a HUGE let down!! First off the cider was mass produced and shipped in along with everything else, the taste of the cider was average at best along with the baked goods. The kids area was a joke! We paid $6.00 a child for a 90 second pony ride, saying the playground is subpar would be generous! Then my family and I decided to end this trip and pick our pumpkins. After my 2,6 and 7 year old spent at least a half an hour picking the perfect pumpkins, two employees walked out to the patch and told us we were not allowed to pick out of the patch and there was plenty pre-picked up front to choose from... I was so mad I was speechless!!! At this point I was outraged we drove nearly two hours for this! If i wanted my children to get pre-picked pumpkins i would've taken them to walmart!! After they told us this my kids were so upset they could not have the pumpkins THEY picked! I was angry with the whole experience, so I packed everyone up and left. For those looking for a REAL orchard experience google Tanners Orchard in Speer,il. We went there the next mourning and let me tell you... NIGHT and DAY difference!! Eckerts is not even in the same league as Tanners!! We will NOT be returning to Eckerts EVER AGAIN, nor will I give them ANY good reviews, the only reason i gave them a one was it would'nt let me give them a zero! read more
