For those of you who aren't beach experts like me, Seaside was the site for the movie The Truman Show. While New Town is a bit too cookie-cutter perfect (some people were saying eerie), the Italian-style bridges, the fountained lakes and the stone cutouts for bonfires are nothing less than charming. It happened to be a chilly night so I was glad for the little venue selling hot chocolate and cappuccino. I spotted a diner, sports bar, church and market all within two blocks of each other. There were also two sand volleyball courts, and games continued until midnight. The idea of New Town and others like it is to be able to walk to any place you would need within a square mile. There's ample parking for patrons and the building itself has high ceilings for lots of air circulation. On my visit they had a small stage for the talent to speak about their experiences as well as a separate room for signings/photos. Upon doing so, they were verbally berated and shamed by a staff member who called them bullies for "forcing" the woman to get medical care. He was the dab tender for this event. This gentleman did not get a manager or supervisor, and pressured a woman not to receive medical care which is not only unethical but highly illegal. Luckily an ambulance did come and she got checked out, but it took a lot of fighting and force with this employee to get it done. He was not a medical professional by any means and had no right to prevent her from getting care. I sincerely hope this gentleman gets retrained and/or disciplined for this abhorrent behavior.
