Dead, infested apples everywhere. Do not waste your time here if you want to come home with any good produce. First of all, they charge $5/person and another $5/bag for apple picking. Second, they took our money and let us in knowing they didn't have any apples. On our way out, the front desk lady told another couple they were all out of apples (about 20-30 min after we got there). We looked around all rows and even the "newest opened" row that apparently opened just yesterday the 23rd. Everything had worm holes and was rotting. We got 3 small and dirty apples that were questionable. They sold store bought apples in the main area that were overpriced. Just don't come here! They need to change their pricing, improve their experience, and just focus on actually selling produce that's not rotten read more

Was super excited to visit this farm but it has been a lack luster experience. Back in the summer, their signs out front clearly advertised peach picking was available. I invited my family from the city to come up and we excitedly went over to the farm. An older woman was there and wasn't super friendly, simply stating "no we don't have any right now". I said "your sign still says available?" And she just responded firmly "no hun. We don't have any here." There was no real attempt for customer service or friendly attitude which was slightly disappointing given my first impression for my family that took the trip unnecessarily. I'm told this is a family run business and has great potential but their small local farm is missing that warm welcoming feeling you'd expect. read more

I really wasn't impressed with this place at all. It's basically a shack off the side of the road that sells produce and items that were grown at other farms in Missouri and Illinois. We did take a hayride... which led us to one pony to pet. We couldn't pick any apples or pumpkins, or run around in any fields. There's a small playground for kids to play on, and they can ride around the inside of the barn on tricycles. You're better off just going to your local Schnucks, and visiting a local playground. read more

Came here while I was in town with my family to do some apple picking. Decided Eckerts was too far and wanted to stay local. They charge $5/person for apple picking and $5 for a very small bag for the apples. To our surprise all of the apples in the orchard were rotted and we maybe walked away with 4 good (but still questionable) ones. We were there for about an hour and as we were leaving they just started to tell people they were out of apples. This seemed like something everyone there was displeased with and the staff had to have known... no refunds offered either.... I wanted to support this small family owned farm but I'd take your money somewhere else for the season read more

Bad customer service. We arrived right as it started to rain. Since there were no apples for sale we asked if they could waive the picking fee so we could run into the orchard and pick a few apples to purchase. We were baffled that they said no. You can literally see the orchard from their counter. Apparently they aren't interested in selling apples. Very disappointed. What a waste of a drive. read more

We've been going here as a family for several years to do our apple picking and it's always so much fun. The owners are friendly and take the time to explain how they grow their tomatoes. The children love the play area and we are able to have a picnic every time we go. read more

We came here last year for apple picking and had a good experience. This year, all the apples were rotting on the vine or were eaten away by bugs. We had already paid the $2 per person and a $10 bag, and no one got to eat a single apple. We asked for our money back for the $10 bag but they instead gave us a bag of soft, unfresh apples. We had a terrible experience. The owner was yelling at one of the employees and then they started arguing right in front of us. The young boy working out in the orchard repeatedly told us that he had no idea what we were supposed to do because "nobody ever told him anything " and we were told at least 20 times..... Great place. Small and out of the way family farm perfect for spending an afternoon getting fresh fruits and vegetables while the children play. The playground and mini-tractors are free, they only ask that you spend $20 on their produce which is a great deal because everything we got was delicious, especially the watermelon, best I've ever tasted. read more

We tried going to a smaller, local farm instead of the larger ones nearby in Illinois. Unfortunately I was disappointed and wouldn't recommend. The ask you to prepay for small bags, smaller than a lunch bag at $10 that can maybe hold 6 or 7 small apples. And also charge $5 per person. The quality if the apples was poor - after going up and down where they told us to go, we found 2 good apple. We asked the cashier about this, and she gave us permission to go in an area that I'd more gated off. There were better options here, but just over 5 minutes into picking apples, a young man came over and told us we couldn't be there. Even after I said we had permission he still asked us to leave, followed by perhaps the owner or his father. They gates us off and said we couldn't be there. Very disappointed in not only the poor customer service but also the quality of apples. Definitely would not go back. Eckerts is worth the drive... read more

I wasn't sure what to expect when we went here last weekend, but I was disappointed. There were only a few apple trees and everything had been harvested already. The pumpkin fields were a mess with small pumpkins and, in my opinion, everything was on the more expensive side. I have purchased fresh produce here and been pleased with the service and produce. Last year, we picked suburb blackberries for a reasonable price. They have u-pick berries this year, but charge each person $2 just to pick. (Ekhert's in Grafton charges $1, which probably covers the cost of berries some people eat.) Last week I bought a 1/4 peck "#1 peaches for $12. Peaches were from Calhoun county, IL and were all very good except for one which I had to throw out. I stopped by a couple days later to purchase the same kind of peaches for my daughter. Three of the peaches (out of 10) were at least seconds. Foolishly, I returned for another bag for myself. This time I laid each peach out to examine it, saw that several peaches were of very poor quality ( bruised beyond eating, split at the stem to expose rotting flesh, and other significant damages. I spoke to the attendant; she offered to replace two of the peaches. I left, very disappointed will return, but will inspect all fruits and veggies more carefully before I buy them. It is a barn, farm market, not a fancy set up for city people to play all day. The do have some cool pedal tractors that my grandkids love as well as a huge corn play pit, sandbox filled with corn. with large toy loaders, trucks, and bulldozers. Again, the grankid love to play there and will return for their home grown tomatoes, pumpkins, and play time. I'm hoping that hiding 2nds among the #1 peaches is a fluke which will be corrected. The bags of seconds were $10, not really enough reduction for the quality. read more

Herman's Farm has always been a pleasant visit for us. Young children are always running around and playing with tractors, etc. There are a lot of smiles and you can hear the sounds of laughter from the children! What a great place WITH GOOD VEGETABLES, APPLES, and flowers....love the fact, you can bring your own container and they will help you select flowers., arrange it in your hanging basket for you....so nice of them! read more

Awful place that has no knowledge about individuals with developmental disabilities! The owner really could learn a lot about acceptance from a group of amazing individuals I have the honor of knowing. He did not have a chance to learn from them though as he did not allow them to enter his farm today. What a terrible, terrible shame. They've broken my heart. When my daughter was small, I used to take her to Herman's farm off of Halls Ferry. Some of the best memories of her and her childhood are there. They used to be kind people, with a nice place, and my daughter and I spent many fall afternoons there picking apples, riding the hay wagon, and playing in all of the corn and pumpkins. My wife and I went to Hermans at the new location in St. Charles this morning, to relive some of the old times, and to get some u-pick apples for making cider. As I exited my car an angry woman comes running at me SCREAMING at me that I CANT PARK THERE!! Apparently if you're a u-pick customer you have to park in some other spot. She was unbelievable rude and unpleasant, but... I moved the car and walked over the u-pick spot only to be greeted by two more rude people. There was just a sign that said simply "$12". I asked them "$12 per person, per bushel, per... what exactly." 12$ PER BAG she says. I'm thinking "That's not so bad, $12 bucks for one of those big sacks." I'm getting my money out when she hands me this little paper bag, approximately the size of a brown paper lunch sack. I ask "What's this?" She says... "it's your bag." At first... I thought it was some rude joke or something. $12 for a little lunch sack for u-pick apples? That would make them on the order of $4 per pound. She wasn't kidding. They wanted $12 for a bag about the size of a paper lunch sack. And... they were rude on top of it. I decided I'd had enough rudeness for the morning, and politely refused their offer of paying approximately $4 per pound, and got back in my car and went to Soulard where I paid 95 cents a pound for high quality apples of several mix-and-match varieties. Rude people. Astronomical prices. It's not the same Hermans it used to be, and that absolutely breaks my heart. read more

I went to this place for the first time and was not at all impressed. Unlike every other orchard I have been to where they weigh your apples and charge you by the pound, here they give you a small paper tote bag (smaller than the ones you may see at grocery stores) and tell you to fill it for $10. It holds maybe 3 to 4 pounds of apples. You cannot pick your own apples and pay less than $10. So it's much more expensive than buying apples at the grocery store. And they do have a playground but if you want to play on it you have to spend at least $20 at the store or in apples you pick. In addition, the place was disorganized, it wasn't clear where to enter, where to park, etc, and the orchard was muddy and full of large ruts (I almost tripped and fell a couple times). So yeah, not the best experience. For what it's worth, I go to Eckerts with my kids frequently and love it. So it's not that we don't like apple picking, this place was just the pits. read more

I just drove 30 miles round trip with a group of people that I work with. They were excited to go pick out a pumpkin each and enjoy a lovely fall day. As we loaded out of the van the owner of this farm came over to us and told us that we needed to leave, he didn't want the liability. The people I brought to his farm have developmental disabilities, they are all living independently with staff support. Horrible! Absolutely Awful. And the worse thing is that my clients heard every word and have more emotional intelligence than he does, and were hurt by his words and actions. read more

This farm has sunk to a new low. Over over priced. $10 for a bag that holds 8 flavorless apples or $5 for a tiny bag that holds 2 flavorless apples. Besides being a shack they had metal stakes sticking 3" out of the ground you could not see and tripped over. Not impressed at all. Went to Herman's today and found them to be expensive. My kids picked out 2 watermelons, a jar of honey, cherries, 6 ears of corn, 3 plums(very sour btw), 4 white peaches and 4 regular peaches, and two tomatoes for $56. I know we won't be driving back as the price vs quality doesn't add up. read more
