However, I was very pleasantly surprised. While I always think it is important to have family advocates visiting and interceding for their family members, I found the staff attentive in a myriad of ways. Even though, this is a large facility, all the nursing staff seemed aware of my mother's fears, issues and likes and dislikes and were quite helpful. They genuinely seemed to appreciate her sweet personality. The physical therapy and occupational therapy department worked well with her and got her up to speed quickly. The facility itself has been recently remodeled and is pleasant to the eye. The facility did not smell like a "nursing home". The nursing aids were friendly although pulling extra shifts, due to being short staffed. The social worker and the head of nursing were very approachable. I think the recreational/dining area could use some work, and the food was often on the cold side, but my mother always ate everything and seemed to like it. All and all, my mother healed quickly and was not traumatized by being away from home during the Christmas holidays for a solid month. My family will be forever grateful to Napa Valley Care Center.

Our child was a late talker, so we did our research and found East Bay Child Development Center…read more(formerly PLTA). From intake to our final class, the staff made sure that the scheduling process was a breeze, and that visits did not fall short of expectations. They have an excellent staff dedicated to your child's development, and the office is pristine. Not just clean; very well kept. I noticed that there wasn't one tear on a book or broken toys. They put lots of effort into upkeep, knowing well that toys and books can take a beating with younger kids. East Bay Child Development Center has terrific speech therapists and therapists specialized in helping in all other types of child development, including but not limited to physical therapy, etc. We went through 2 different speech therapists and 1 or 2 therapy students which was a little harder for our son to grow accustomed to because it would take him awhile to warm up (which I've learned isn't unusual for any development therapy center), but each therapist tried their absolute best to ensure they were giving him the utmost care and attention.

That speech is not a good fit for him, that his sister runs around the hallways exploring toys and opened doors of offices, about me get a phone call so they discharged him from services. This is racism and discrimination by the way ladies I want to give you suggestions, your office needs a new administration, organisation and functionality. Everybody there seems to go everywhere, I don't know if these people work here are they clients. The back door to the outside was open, this is called dysfunctional. The office receptionist was like his first day to work, confused and looked around like a lost boy. There four people by office were speaking loud and chatting. They failed my son years ago when he was younger because they said he was not ready for speech when I just changed my insurance to get accepted to come here. Now he's 12 years old saying he's not a good fit. Shame on you to say that to me. You can't discharge him that's illegal. My son is trying with his speech and he has rights in California to receive speech therapy any age. Discrimination by the ability, then age, what's next because his sister running around the office and also I was on the phone? For that lady who spoke with me today over the phone couldn't wait on me. And making me feel like I was being fired from the job, she sounded rude and said my daughter was running around the room and I was speaking loud on the phone so the excuse to fail my son. Then changed her words saying he's not a good fit and he runs fast and wants to push the kids. She needs to find more excuses for her to dismiss him. You don't know how hard and challenging to be a mother of autistic kid. I finally thought I have him his speech going and then you locked me up like shutting my mouth. Go see if your speech therapist is the one who has the problem. She too lazy to give speech therapy or has a lack of skills. This is Shameless and discrimination.

Alex looks at the "whole child," and structured the goals towards growing my daughter as a person, as an independent thinker, and a self-sufficient young lady, all while centered around advancing her speech skills. In the IEP discussions at school, she was an active participant, and a true leader in terms of looking out for all of my daughter's goals. She had a voice and influence in all dimensions of the process. Alex always went above and beyond, offering practical and fun .....and highly relevant paths for my daughter. I found Alex on Yelp and called her to learn more about her after my son's teacher suggested she would have the school speech pathologist listen to him. He's 5 1/2 yrs old and in kindergarten, and I wanted a 2nd opinion. In our very first conversation, her warmth, expertise, and graciousness came through so clearly. She spoke to me for a half an hour, basically diagnosed him based on my description of what was going on (he had a lateral lisp), and suggested that the school would have to offer speech therapy at no cost to me. She also offered to spend a half hour talking with him, free of charge, just in case I still was not fully on board with simply going through his school. At the end of that first meeting, she guided me on how to make sure the school would treat my son, but he developed an attachment to Alex right away and really loved being with her that it made sense to me to keep him in a happy environment to do his therapy, so we chose Alex over the school therapy. A mere month or so later, he speaks perfectly clearly, and has had the best time getting to this point. He LOVES seeing Alex, and even though I told him he'd be graduating soon, he asked to still go see her every week to say hi! It has been such an incredible experience for all of us--there's nothing like seeing your child work hard because he's encouraged to do so in such a warmly positive way. It's abundantly clear that Alex loves her job, loves working with children, and is constantly trying to find ways to engage and make it fun. If you have any concerns about your child's speech, RUN to Alex, you will be so happy you did!!
