In just a few months working with Alex, my son started pronouncing the "L" well, with no protrusion. Now he can pronounce all the sounds. Alex also arranged for my son to make a Stuttering Presentation in front of the other kids at school. That was a great initiative, because my son was so proud and excited to do it (actually talked very smoothly during the presentation), and because the other kids were able to understand more about stuttering, what it feels like, try to do it, thus getting a better understanding of the problem and the kids with stuttering issues. Alex taught my son what techniques to use to make stuttering less bothering. Alex is always very nice and friendly, treats her kids with love, belief, and dedication. She organized a few parties fro my son for different occasions. She always kept a good communication with me. She updated me about problems or progresses; always took into consideration my worries; responded to me emails promptly. She is lots of fun, her kids love her and are willing to work with her.

Cortica definitely has more of a "big chain" feel compared to the small, family-style clinics we were used to... things like multiple phone lines and staff menus before you get to the right person. But that's kind of expected with a nationwide company, and options in Marin for ABA and OT that take insurance are limited, if any others? The process has been clear: we started with a Nurse Practitioner, then an ABA assessor, and then the ABA supervisor who continues to meet with us regularly. They've taken into account data from our previous clinic down south, which we appreciated. Everyone has been super knowledgeable and kind. It's true there's a wait for RBTs due to staffing shortages, but once you're in, you still get regular parent training sessions with the ABA supervisor, which helps keep things moving while you wait. We're hoping to get an RBT soon. And Dr. V, the neurologist on site, is amazing. She's been fantastic with my son. Super communicative, supportive, and easy to talk to. She's very organized and her medical assistant has provided so much info for us which is great. It can all feel overwhelming, but I think the systems (online portals, phone mazes when calling, just the corporate infrastructure) is what kind of kills it for some folks...as it can start to get frustrating to have to do so much to get to the right 'person' for answers. However, I think some of that will fade away...as the rhythm of a schedule for therapies, follow-ups, etc. gets in the groove.

People are usually too devastated about their family circumstance to have the energy to get everything done and focus on every detail. But this is for my loved one, and I wanted to make sure the arangement was fairly balaced when it came to how each party was covered from a responsibility standpoint. I was told to go elsewhere.
